Royal Caribbean tends to assign one of their most senior Captains the job of being the first Captain to take the delivery of new ships as they are delivered from the shipyard, and sailing them to their first assigned port.

 

Some years ago, it was Captain Bill Wright, if I recall correctly, until he retired.

 

Captain Charles seems to have taken that role of being the most senior captain who takes delivery of the ships and then hands them off to the "regular" captain who will take over for the regularly scheduled sailings.

 

It would be a very interesting list to compile of all the ships in the fleet, and who was the captain that took delivery from their respective shipyards!

Yes, all cruise lines choose Senior Captains for that important task. Captain Charles does it just for the second time with Wonder, it is not his assigned role to take out all new ships. He is also one of the Captains who likes cruising in Asia (many don‘t) so this is a good match.

With such a small and infrequent data set, it's hard to spot a trend.  That list I mentioned would be very interesting indeed!

Well, we can try. Maybe a fun exercise and good for the memories.. Below is what I know (not all 100%). Captain Bill Wright did it as shore based SVP Marine Operations and he handed over the ships quickly.

As per him sharing with me, Captain Michael Lindberg is staying an additional week. He will sign off on September 19, instead of 9/12. I’m glad because we get to sail a week with him!

 

We are staying on for the two cruises after that week, with Captain Gus from 9/19 forward.

yeah, someone posted a pic of him putting on his balcony while he was in quarantine. So I put him on as I'm never sure when to start the clock when there's an overlap. But now that he's posted he's in charge now, I'll update the date. Plus he refers to a Capt Frederick. Don't know who that is. But obviously it's not Ron Holmes

Yes and she had to be on a ship that are husband wasn't the chief engineer.   Since he was on a Royal ship, Brilliance I think, she moved.  That was where we met them.  She was staff captain then and he was chief engineer.

I had her on the Summit in 2016.

She was funny because she said just before we left "Now which purse did I put my keys in?"

 

And as we were leaving, in NYC harbor a lot of small boats kept getting in the way.  Boy did she or someone on the bridge lay on the horn for almost a half hour.   I swear that horn started to sound a little weak.

Also when she is posing for photos off to the side on the 2nd night, the ship's photographers were down right mean to anyone nearby walking and stopping to take a quick photo.  I did not want to pose with her I just walked by I got the camera out and this hand and snippy voice came down on me fast.

Then several others folks had the same thing.  Nasties photographers every on any ship. So I went way across and hid and did a zoom.  

I mean really you are in a large area with lots of folks walking by.

I believe this question was about Captain Karin Stahre-Janson. She was the first femal cruise Captain on Monatch, Serenade and Majesty from 2007-2014 but never with Celebrity. Long time before Kate and others you are talking about!

BUT Kate was the first American women to be a Captain for RCG

Capt Karin quit RCI in 2021(?long time ago). When we had her she was not happy, you could see she wanted to be elsewhere. I hear she resigned to take care of her ailing parents in Sweden.
