Captain James was at the helm on the test cruise in late September so Bardsnes (Bardsnes) took over this last week or so. Bardsnes is at the helm for a Liberty’s first revenue sailing today as confirmed on our page by a cruiser onboard.

Captain Gus took over on the September 19th cruise. We had Captain Michael on our September 12 cruise, and Captain Gus was the master from September 19 forward. We got off the ship this past Friday after being onboard Indy  for three sailings.

The Staff Captain on Ovation, Capt Rumen is being promoted to master of Ovation in about 30 days. Ovation is going back into warm lay up after the October 8th Alaska sailing. No place to put her. All the crew told us they were being sent home for 2 months, the HD said they hoped Australia would open in January, so if that doesn't happen then Ovation will sit idle a little longer.

Thanks for that information, Karen.  I have always enjoyed sailing with him. Sadly, I do not have anything booked on Liberty.

I’ve never sailed with him, but with 3 Liberty cruises booked maybe I will. What’s the correct spelling of his surname?  I love Captain James, too. He was wonderful during Hurricane Harvey.

yes, I first met him in 2005 when he was staff captain on Vision in Alaska with Capt George Paraskevopolous. He wasn't grey then! And it is Malvin Bardsnes, I'll correct my chart

Thank you for the correct spelling of his last name, I never would have gotten it correct.

 

I remember Captain George -- he helped me and my husband celebrate our 100th cruise in 2007 on Serenade. He came out to the West Coast sometime after that, I believe he was on Vision.

Full name is Captain Rumen Yovchev from Bulgaria.
