If you are just regular people like us, still working and saving for retirement, it is sometimes impossible to change PTO after the requests are in and approved. Also, it’s not usual for regular people, those vacationing once or twice a year, to know anything about upcoming dry docks. For those of us not living in Florida, trust me, it’s not so easy to fly there these days. Airlines fly small commuter jets that are always full. They’re claiming that the weather delays are due to high/heavy winds that prevented the crane(s) from operating. They could lift things onto the top deck that were needed. I still don’t believe it. But this makes it harder to verify cause it’s easy to look up whether or but it rained in Freeport on any given day. I missed three calls on CocoCay Jan/Feb 2018 due to winds. Apparently Royal didn't think 2019 would be like past winters. Source: WeatherUnderground January February Something tells me they planned for a best care scenario. Why not? Book guests and if the project doesn't complete on time, no problem just refund the money and don't worry about it. Just blame the weather. It's God's fault. BTW - looking at January 2018 on WeatherUnderground winds were must worse than 2019. That probably accounts for all my missed calls on CocoCay last year. It sounds like basically they still need to cover crew salaries through dry dock so we get to pay that even though we don't sail. As the saying going... vote with your wallet. I've cancelled 14 nights so far and tomorrow I'm cancelling another 13 nights (all fully refundable). Thank you Royal for saving me over $4,000. Booked an all-inclusive in Jamaica instead. With 11 days notice most ships are full. Very little available. What is available is expensive such as 2 nights on Mariner for more than what 5 nights on Navigator cost. It seems many folks are stuck with creating a hotel based land vacation because the airfare change allowance is poor. Cheap airfares are long gone, airfare differences in price on top of change fees add up to several hundred. Allianz insurance only covers $150 of that. The FCC offered is based on what you paid for the cancelled cruise. I backed this cruise up by booking a Friday through Monday on the Mariner of the seas. I was very flexible and tried to get something else, even out of FLL but nothing was available. Hate to fly fly down for the weekend cruise but Royal gave me, in my opinion a great future credit of $537.00 plus my taxes and fees. Don’t have any idea where they got that amount for a free cruise but I will take it. By the way, I was told that FCC was already credit to your account so even if you haven't gotten an email about it it should be in your account and you can use it. Only $900 for 4 tickets R/T to Miami from Boston... So $4000 later we sailed on NCL Breakaway out of NOLA! It was a decent ship, mediocre food...
