I usually avoid controversy on the boards, put that post was just rude. Some helpful post posts and discussion instead of insults would have been much more helpful to those whose cruise has been cancelled 11 days before sailing.

I agree there are a whole lot of useful posts however there are also a whole lot of posts from people thinking that they could have done a better job managing the drydock without being privy to the facts of what actually happened.

Just read through all posts.  So sorry to all who were booked on this cancelled trip.

I was wondering if there was a website that we could see the progress on the Navigator as it occurs (outside of ship I mean)?  Am scheduled for the 4/12 voyage.

Try this thread. Not official, but Lloyd posts pictures of Navigator quite often.

So you pretty much have one year to use it. Do you have to book by 2/2020 or do you have to take a cruise by then?

When we had one, we had to cruise by the expiration date.

We planned this cruise a year before then booked last summer for my parent's 70th birthday gift. Booked international flights (24 hour trip with a connection) and set to arrive here in 7 days. This is really really disappointing to say the least. Can't find another replacement cruise and one or two available are thousands more $$$ than what we paid.😡

Sorry... Last Cruise I had cancelled the price Protection was for only one other ship, with dates 2 days off from original cruise. Was lucky as few cabins available and learned about my sailing being canceled on CC otherwise would have missed out as others did

Insurance doesn't cover 100% and in the case of a B2B the second leg isn't cancelled, so changing travel plans for a cruise that isn't impacted results in no insurance coverage.

What travel insurance are you using?

I am sorry for all of those affected by this cancellation.

If you are just regular people like us, still working and saving for retirement, it is sometimes impossible to change PTO after the requests are in and approved.  Also, it’s not usual for regular people, those vacationing once or twice a year, to know anything about upcoming dry docks.  For those of us not living in Florida, trust me, it’s not so easy to fly there these days.  Airlines fly small commuter jets that are always full.  Even rebooking a flight, if you can find a new destination, isn’t so easy.

I hope all affected can make other arrangements.

It's pretty telling when the general consensus is to accept this company can't manage or execute a large project.

The pier will be ready early 2018.  Sorry, June 2018.  Sorry, August 2018.  Sorry, December 2018.  Sorry,  January 2018. Sorry, March 2019.  Sorry, May 2019.

Just remember that when Perfect Day isn't ready in May.

Who knew it could rain in the Bahamas?  Maybe they should hire a full time chief meteorologist...

They’re claiming that the weather delays are due to high/heavy winds that prevented the crane(s) from operating. They could lift things onto the top deck that were needed.

I still don’t believe it. But this makes it harder to verify cause it’s easy to look up whether or but it rained in Freeport on any given day. But harder to prove there weren’t high winds gusts that prevented work from happening. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Two days in Jan had high winds, one day on Feb.

Bahamas is known for winds in the winter.  I missed three calls on CocoCay Jan/Feb 2018 due to winds.    Apparently Royal didn't think 2019 would be like past winters.

Something tells me they planned for a best care scenario.  Why not?  Book guests and if the project doesn't complete on time, no problem just refund the money and don't worry about it.  Just blame the weather.  It's God's fault.

BTW - looking at January 2018 on WeatherUnderground winds were must worse than 2019.   That probably accounts for all my missed calls on CocoCay last year.  Thank goodness they didn't try this project last winter or they would have had to cancel a number of March sailings last year.

They gave me an FCC of 37% of my pre-tax cruise fare.

Cruise fare $776.00

Taxes $104.82

Total paid $880.82

FCC issued $290.

Royal math.

Called RC and got the similar % credit. Apparently, the crazy high fees and taxes they charge is not part of the fare.

Nor are those hidden misc. fees published so no one can really know what's going on.

It sounds like basically they still need to cover crew salaries through dry dock so we get to pay that even though we don't sail.

As the saying going... vote with your wallet.  I've cancelled 14 nights so far and tomorrow I'm cancelling another 13 nights (all fully refundable).

Thank you Royal for saving me over $4,000.  Booked an all-inclusive in Jamaica instead.

Maybe they’ll be able to get on a different ship that week??

With 11 days notice most ships are full.  Very little available.  What is available is expensive such as 2 nights on Mariner for more than what 5 nights on Navigator cost.  It seems many folks are stuck with creating a hotel based land vacation because the airfare change allowance is poor.   Cheap airfares are long gone, airfare differences in price on top of change fees add up to several hundred.  Allianz insurance only covers $150 of that.

The FCC offered is based on what you paid for the cancelled cruise.  Five night cruise fares are low, so the 37% FCC I got really doesn't do much and only works assuming I book another cruise with them.

I was booked in a junior suite complements of the casino (Club Royale).  Just had to pay the taxes and port charges.  I backed this cruise up by booking a Friday through Monday on the Mariner of the seas.  I was very flexible and tried to get something else, even out of FLL but nothing was available.

Hate to fly fly down for the weekend cruise but Royal gave me, in my opinion a great future credit of  $537.00 plus my taxes and fees.  Don’t have any idea where they got that amount for a free cruise but I will take it.  I feel like I won in the casino and did not even step on the ship.

Has anyone heard when the "full refund" will be processed?  FCC was due by 2/27 but that is already created, just curios on the credit card refund.

Checked my credit card account today and got the full refund.

By the way, I was told that FCC was already credit to your account so even if you haven't gotten an email about it it should be in your account and you can use it.

However...poop can and will happen.  At least they are refunding everything, including airline change fee.

a) When a flight needs to be changed, the completion of travel has to be by one year from when the ticket was purchased. You may not need to travel by that date and thus lose the entire value of the ticket.

b) Even if you need to fly within the time limit of a changed ticket, the airline involved may not be one that flies to where your next trip will be.  Again, lose the entire value of the ticket.

c) Even if you are able to fly using that airline, even to the same destination, the fare could be significantly higher than what was originally paid.

Refunding a change fee is not enough. Need to have all costs refunded including increased fare amounts or the entire ticket if it is not practical to use.

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 2 weeks later...

Not a good deal when you scored an Inside cabin on Deck 7 for a Family of 4 going on February School vacation for $1128!

Only $900 for 4 tickets R/T to Miami from Boston...

So $4000 later we sailed on NCL Breakaway out of NOLA! It was a decent ship, mediocre food...
