Slippers in a suite

Last cruise I thought I’d have to wear my slippers home, as I had packed all my shoes in the suitcase that was picked up the night before!  Luckily my son had an extra pair of tennis shoes.  A little large, but better than the slippers!

That can easily happen.    i hate putting my suitcases out the night before especially when we fly out the next morning.  I need or I should say, wanted to use a few toiletries in the morning and don't want to add stuff at the airport.    Last cruise we decided to stay in FLL an extra day.  Man - that was wonderful.  No rushing the night before.  And we took our time and left just before 10.  Luckily our room was ready when we got to the hotel.    We organized two suitcases but just filled the other ones and organized them later in the afternoon at the hotel.   Well worth the extra cost of hotel.

Compozer,  I have only stayed in Suites on three different lines.  I will say each line has certain benefits or perks that are unique to that line.  So over the past 15 years I still enjoy the extra cabin and balcony space and the extra perks.  Thanks for sharing

We only book suites and cruise 6 to 8 weeks a year.   Sometimes I think I should just book a regular mini and save money.   4 times the price of a inside - is it really worth the money???      It really is a shame how they have cut back on the suite perks.   The unlimited internet is something I think would be easy for them to bring back on  the ships with the new system.   I really miss the beautiful flowers and do not care for the orchids.  Flowers on first formal was a nice touch but not that big of a deal.   I loved the thick bathrobes especially on chilly itineraries - I don't especially care for the new ones.    I find that some items in the little bag are a hit and miss - sewing kit has been missing on several cruises the past year.  We have always had umbrellas but never had binoculars.    I think Sabitinis breakfast has gone down hill.  On the last two cruises, the staff changed several times.  The nice thing about it was having the staff know your routine and talking and joking around with them.   They seemed to be constantly busy.  And they are allowing "non suite special people" to come in.  Last cruise they spent more time at that person's table and never came back to check on coffee many days - we had to get their attention.  We were very pleased with club class dining on many cruises until our last cruise on the CB.  It was always crowded when we went in and we actually had to go to the bar to wait on three nights (they did come to get us).   They added more cc minis and then added two more tables to CC in the regular section across the aisle.  The staff was running like mad and that "special" feeling was not there.  Afraid they found a way to make more money with the cc cabins but screwed that up.

We still love the larger cabins but, like everything else these days, it just is not the same.     The good old suite life is gone!

I'm just curious how do you know that they are non suite people?

We have known the head waiter in Club Class for a long time.   We said we prefered breakfast in CC over Sabitinis and mentioned why.   The next morning we were told who this person was.    We later had a conversation about all the VIP's that are allowed there for breakfast.

Ah okay.  I wonder if that was a "I'm sorry for this mishap" gift to those passengers which might explain the staff's over-attentiveness.  Otherwise, it just isn't right.

One of the cases was a woman who recently lost her husband and they cruised a lot.   Not sure who really invited her but the maitre d came in and sat with her every day.  He was there the entire time we ate.    The maitre d usually comes in almost everyday and stops and says hi at each table but he dashed to her table without talking to anyone.    I also believe people who reach a certain number of cruises are invited.

there was a lady that posted in another thread, that she wanted to do a 'balcony dinner for one' as a tribute to her

late husband as they always did a UBD on previous cruises ... maybe it was her

Yes, you can chose either one.  By the way, go to or call your choice soon after boarding to get the time you want.  I forgot to call and by the time I did, they only had 8:30pm left and that is way too late for us.  I just politely said thank you but that is too late for us "oldies" to eat and was ready to hang up when the nice guest services gal said wait and she was able to make me a reservation for the next night free of charge at an earlier time.  Thought that was very nice of Princess as it does specifically state it is usually only for first night.

No slippers in the mini suite.

We were on the Crown and the Maitre d never came to see us any time during dining in CC.  Didn’t in Sabatinis for breakfast either.  Sabatinis was awful so We decided to go to CC for breakfast.  Not happy about this perk being crappy....missed my mimosas.

On Majestic at the moment.  Have got the slippers etc but no umbrellas.  Hasn't rained anywhere though.  Laundry collected by our steward in the evening is back the next evening.  Had no problem using our first night free specialty restaurant dinner moved to the middle of the cruise.  Staff on board are very good.

Somehow ended up with 3 minibar setups.  One for suite, one for an elite but I'm platinum so maybe they felt sorry and just gave me one as well. 😁

Hi there!  We just got off the Grand and in comparing reality to the written word, it was pretty good I must admit.  No flowers special for formal nights (but were orchids in stateroom and bathroom), no customized stationery anymore, but you do get the "upgraded" pen.  Two nice Credit Card leather(faux?) folders for princess card which are nice, never saw any umbrellas, got a sleep bag with minor goodies (including eye mask) left on the bed, in one of the many drawers a shoe bag and brush, etc. (you might have to go hunting thru the drawers for this one); slippers; bathrobes (you could buy for $75!!!!!!!!!! each), 72 hr. turnaround laundry services-note of such left on our bed), then we got so many goodies the first couple of days- beautiful fruit basket; chocolates; nicer champagne(two bottles); then some more chocolates; standard amenities in the bathroom; free speciality restaurant dinner for two (when I remembered to call they only had 8:30pm left and I said no thank you as too late and they were nice enough to give me the first night free dinner on the second night of the cruise which was nice.  The only thing I suggest you ask for is for the steward to put a sheet on the sofa the whole cruise, as I said earlier, they were not replaced.  Any questions, just ask and enjoy the suite life, we sure did!

Pooh

Hi Pooh just come across your post and wanted to ask a couple of questions...

First time sailing with Princess we usually go with P&O but Princess had an amazing offer out of Southampton next year on Regal. We have booked a Penthouse Suite for 3 adults, what did you mean by put a sheet on the sofa for the whole cruise? I thought the sofa was made up each night then put away in the morning. Also can you tell me if they have a kettle in the suite for that nice early morning cuppa on the balcony or do we have to order room service? Bathrobes & slippers included? I'm sure I will think of more questions!

Hi Rup;

There were only two of us in the suite so we didn't need to use the sofa as a bed.  It was getting alittle "used" looking, so for us to sit on it we wanted a clean sheet between us and the material of the sofa.  They do make it up as a bed each night as needed and put it back to sofa when they clean up in the morning.  I am American and had this suite on a Mexican itinerary so there were no kettles in the room.  Now, maybe they will as they will be based out of England for your cruise.  As an American, a kettle has not been needed by me!  Grin.  I get room service coffee!   Bathrobes and slippers are included (at least for the first two guests, I don't know about the third.)  You can keep the slippers.  In fact, I have mine on now!

Here's a quick pic from our Premium Suite on Sky Princess  - bathrobes and slippers. We didn't use them on that cruise however!

Compozer,   I was in a Penthouse Suite on CB in Feb.  We had a great time, and not sure what you mean by the good old suite life is gone?  Slippers, bathrobes,  umbrellas, fruit, minibar, cc dining(no wait), breakfast in Sabbatini's was very good. Flowers, canapes every day, same day laundry, breakfast in suite, escorted onto ship.  All was good.

"Good Old Suite Life is Gone"

Through the years, they have removed some suite perks (and added daily water).  Gone are the beautiful floral arrangements (orchids), Corsages/boutonnière, chocolate covered strawberries, personalized stationary,  canvas tote bags, cloth laundry bags, and ....  Changes happen and life goes on.  It's still nice to cruise in a suite.

A couple more suite perks...

* escort off the ship skipping past the lines in customs at a time of your choice.

* you can exchange the mini booze bottles for other beverages.

* Royal & Regal have a Concierge and Private suite lounge with snacks and drinks.  On our last Royal sailing the          Concierge brought drinks to our suite as my DW was having some mobility issues.  Or, he really wanted to enjoy the sunset on the balcony with us.  😃

I have noticed people here saying that suite perks are being eliminated;  I have to disagree.  Everything that is listed on Princess website regarding suite perks;  are still there.  It's all good.  Now what the cruise line does after they start sailing again; it's anyone's guess.

AF-1.  We have been cruising in suites for over ten years and the perks have changed.   Of course, the perks listed are the ones you get.  They would not keep the old perks on the list - too many complaints and people would demand them if they did not remove them.

Someone said that suites are able to switch items from the mini bar - any elite who receives them, can switch them.   The escort onto the ship started two years ago and we have only experienced it in FFL.   They do not do it in the Med.    And we really don't care for it - we know where our cabin is and don't need people staring at us and wondering what is up.  It might be nice for first time cruisers.

We are disappointed that some of them have been removed but it won't stop us from booking suites.

Also gone - unlimited free Internet. The first night specialty dinner replaced that.

compozer;  I get it.  I have only sailed twice on Princess; both time in suites;  so I do not have anything to compare to.  I came from Royal Caribbean and Norwegian and they both have some suite perks that were nice.

caribill; with the new Princess all included pricing; unlimited internet will be included with that package pricing.

We purchased the new medallion internet package a year ago and it was wonderful.   Now it comes with their new promotion.   Some ships still are not set up with the medallion.  The Sapphire did not have it on our 6 week cruise last fall.   I am hoping that all the ships have been updated during this  down time.

AF-1,   I think eliminating and cutting back on services has happened all over.

I just want to get back on a ship so I won't complain too much if they cut out a few more things

True, but that all included pricing is only a good price if you would want the beverage package. If you do not need the beverage package, it is not worth paying $40/day/person for just gratuities and Internet which could only cost about $25/day/person if you booked at the Savers rate, less if you only needed one Internet package.
