The one theme that is highlighted in all the above is that you are new X cruisers, mainly from Carnival (and I’ve also noticed recently there are numerous posts from NCL crossovers too). Perhaps that’s where the difference lies? Many of the posts you refer to are from long-standing X cruisers and that’s why they see the differences more. It would probably be the same if they were to sail Carnival and read some of the comments on that board from regular Carnival cruisers.

It was perceived that X were after millennials going forward, but perhaps that was wrong and they are actually hitting their target market: crossovers from NCL and Carnival? Just a thought.

Yes..that was the point I was trying to make.

We like the look of the re-done cabins...reg balc.

But I do understand the disppointment of some of the suite guests who are paying much more than what we are paying...

We noticed the flood of "complaints" before our Infinity cruise in 2017.  However, once on board, they were all unfounded.  I think in the reviews section, you will find more people who have a specific beef.  Those who have a great cruise don't necessarily feel the need to write a review.  Consequently, skewed towards more "bad" reviews.

We are "glass half full" folks, and have not had a bad cruise.  That said, we do love both the M- and S-Class ships of Celebrity, and have two more cruises booked!

We have sailed multiple times on the Summit and enjoyed the ship.  Yes, it was in need of updating and we are glad it has been done-  Hopefully we will sail on her again.  Unfortunately, the August week that works for us seems to be chartered over the past couple of years-  If Celebrity rotates that week for charters, we will consider sailing on her again.

Sounds like the updates were done and are great.

I like to travel in August and never ran into a charter, is something going on in 2019

 for August?

Just got back from Puerto Rico from the Summit, and I loved it.  Reading all the reviews of people complaining is so sad.  Yes there's some issues but you all have to remember you're on vacation, just relax and enjoy yourselves.  Im here at work wishing I can get back on that ship!  I've been on about 15 cruises, mostly on Carnival and first time on Celebrity... wow what a difference. The decor, food and on this ship the singers/entertainment were fantastic.  I've never done a review of a cruise before but I'm thinking about doing one.

You are entitled to your opinion.  The rest of us who have sailed the Summit many times are also entitled to our opinions.

If you go on a cruise and are looking for something to complain about, there is 100% certainty you'll find something.

Similarly, if you go an are looking to have a good time, you most likely will.

But what sense does it make to lock down your opinion based upon a few low res pics of the refurbishment?  If you still have the same opinion after cruising on the Revolutionized Summit that's great, but to go in with pre-conceived notions of how things are and how things are supposed to be is simply asking to be disappointed, which doesn't make any sense to me.

We are on the new Summit now for 2 weeks.  I think the ship is beautiful.  We last sailed on her 6 years ago.  The room, aqua class, is beautiful.  Yes there is no coffee table, but we just brought the one from the balcony inside when we thought we needed it.  The casino smells of the leather of the new chairs.  The Windjammer, light and bright, the Cellar Masters is elegant.   Blu has not been revolutionized, but is still very nice.  As elite plus we are quite pleased with the ship, but have not been to the elite lounge yet, so no comment on that lounge.

A day on a ship is far better than a day at home!!

Great to hear positive comments - we are booked for January 2020 😀

People who have been on the ship before can certainly extrapolate from photos what the changes mean overall.  The balcony furniture is ridiculous by any objective measure, particularly compared with what was there before.  It's ok for people to compare and contrast when they have great familiarity with the product.  They don't have to spend thousands of dollars to express an opinion.

Hi Deb.  We were on the 3/25 sailing as well.  We loved it.  I thought the entertainment was stellar.  I have mostly cruised with Carnival and a couple on Royal, though not the bigger ships.  This was our first Celebrity and I think it won't be our last.  We cruised with my brother and his wife who mostly do the big Royal ships.  They thought activities were lacking and would have liked more choices.  My husband and I were satisfied.   A piano bar, though, would be a great addition!

Sad to hear there isn't a piano bar. We are sailing.April 13th this year. Excited because 1st Celebrity cruise.

As others have explained, it is about a previous cruiser's level of expectation, comparing what is provided now to what was there before and recognizing which features are missing or have been downgraded.

Those who never experienced what was there before would not even know what they are missing.

As for forming an opinion based on photos (low res or otherwise), let's say you leave your home or apartment and I come in, replace your sofa with a small loveseat,  throw away your coffee table, and re-arrange your storage areas.

If I then send you photos of the changes I have made, do you really think that you would be incapable of forming an opinion from looking at the photos?

I seriously doubt that you would need to wait until you returned in person to recognize and inform me that the new arrangement is unsatisfactory.

Of course anyone who has cruised with Celebrity before (or with any other cruise line, for that matter) will have " pre-conceived notions of how things are and how things are supposed to be" but the big difference is that previously Celebrity took great pride in their policy of exceeding your expectations.

That was even part of their advertising slogan.

I agree this seems to sum it up, and as others have said as well.

The vast majority of the cabins are no longer guest friendly. They have gone from thoughtful to thoughtless.

Thank you villauk. My thoughts exactly when I read the post and the first few comments that they were new X cruisers that haven’t experienced the brand before.

To the others. I am am one of the ones currently on Summit. I think my thread was warranted. We arrived to our cabin which was extremely hot. The a/c was not working. When they did the refurb, they forgot to put in a vent. The covered up the entire ceiling. We had to wait to the following day for them to open up the ceiling while we were in port. The vent wasn’t possible so they drilled holes through the ceiling tracks it looks like to let the air in. We are in a suite but regardless of what cabin you’re in that is just absolutely unacceptable. No one noticed????  They also had to replace the thermostat.

When we initially brought this up to our butler, he showed us how to use the thermostat.  Seriously??? We know how to use one.

Our cabin has no bedside lamps. The shower toiletries have to be placed on the floor of the shower since they forgot or didn’t think the need to put in a holder.  You have to bend down each time to reach. It is also quite disappointing when you pay for a suite that your balcony furniture is subpar to the veranda categories.

I dont think we are being picky at all especially with the a/c issue. We are Celebrity cruisers and the Summit was our first cruise. We have been on other lines but Celebrity is our favorite and can understand why a new X cruiser would find the ship wonderful. This is our 5th Summit cruise and while I like the look of the updates and think the ship was in need of an overhaul, the furnishings compared to before are just not comfortable and inviting.  That’s how I feel.

Why is it so hard for cruisers who are booked, but have yet to sail on Celebrity, to understand the disappointment long time cruisers have over changes that have downgraded the enjoyment of being in your cabin.  It's not about the change in colors or décor, rather the lack of functionality in the décor and amenities. For example, a shower that used to have a bar for women to use to shave their legs is now gone. No where to put Celebrity's bath products, let alone a place to put your own in the shower. What used to be a sofa for 2 to enjoy is now an over sized chair.  Used to be able to enjoy breakfast on the balcony or on your coffee table; now both are gone. We have 3 cruises booked in Royal Suites, all on ships that will have undergone the Revolution.  We have no plans on cancelling them but hope Celebrity fixes some of the misses. If not, we will express our disappointment.

The details of this are really horrible...holes in the ceiling to get AC..?

Hope no mold develops.

No reading lamps..yikes

Shower sounds  bad too with no shelf or holders..

Worse is that no one on staff seems ti care abput the lapses!

Hope nothng else goes wrong

I think you hit the nail on the head Deb. Those of us who are long-time X cruisers have seen the line slip a bunch from what we knew and loved. Those new to Celebrity are impressed. Just imagine how impressed you might have been 10 years ago. Or maybe you wouldn't have liked it as much. Who knows. Everyone has an opinion. Glad you had a great time and you are right. Any day on any cruise is better than a day at work. :classic_biggrin:

I think it’s quite possible they didn’t finish up a few things, yet the ship had to sail, so off she went and you have cabins with missing bedside lamps, missing coffee tables, chairs that won’t slide under the desk, etc. I think it’s possible a lot of this stuff will be worked out and maybe bigger couches are on the way, for example. The way things are right now are not necessarily how they will stay forever.

I’ve never sailed Celebrity before but we’ll be on Summit in about 3 weeks. I’m betting some things will have been corrected by then, and more stuff corrected after that. I’m willing to wait and see. Whatever the outcome, I’ll be on vacation and I know I’ll enjoy myself. If they don’t serve creme brûlée well darn it, but I’ll be happy with cheesecake. If I want a lounger for the veranda I’ll ask the butler to bring one. Yes yes, you all are entitled to be disappointed in changes you don’t like. Me too, but I’m glass half full and I’ll move on.

I know there is so many whingers on this site and as you said they complain about a missing stool and minor things as if its the end of the world.  I always hope that we are never sitting with these people for dinner as the negativity and the whining can spoil your cruise. We loved Celebrity and all the other cruises we have been on.  Can't wait for our next cruise Celebrity Eclipse Dec 10 2020 after she has been in dry dock :)

On   the Millennium second sailing after the revolution they worked on our room 4 days running including fitting shelves and lips to shelves, fitting the Back drop to the bed and a vent for the air con. They made it quite clear that it would take a while to do all the "little" bits

Excellent point!

Previous passengers miss the features they were expecting that have been removed or downgraded, while new passengers lack that basis for comparison.  Therefore they don't notice the cutbacks, not having previously experienced the missing (or downgraded) items.

I think that is the point. My wife and I have been on the Summit twice before. We will be on her again this June. We do enjoy breakfast in our room. Before, we sat on the sofa, with the food on the table. How, exactly will we do it now? (We will be in a concierge room).
