Ocean Medallion Question Thread - Part 1

BIGADORF,   I was told by Princess that with the new medallion class app as soon as you log in; any cruises you have booked that are in your cruise personalizer will be linked to the app.  You don't have to add them; they automatically show up in the app.  When I booked SKY Princess it didn't show up and then one day when I opened the app my Sky cruise was there along with countdown clock

Just a FYI - if you are getting ready to do the Ocean Ready or Medallion app

 

Our cruise departs mid-Nov 2019. I tried several times to complete the Ocean Ready app on my phone for about a week. Princess did intervene after I wrote to the email provided here on CC. I was finally successful on 5 Sep with their help.  Within a day or two I received an email from Princess estimating when I'd receive our Medallions. We reside in the USA.

 

I printed a copy of all my boarding paperwork, both from Princess.com and the OR app; just in case the danged Medallion refused to work at check in. I would advise anyone to do the same.

 

Yesterday, just for the heck of it, I decided to try to log onto my OR app. The OR app said I needed to instead download and install the Medallion Class app....which l did NOT want to do after the hassle in September and negative comments here; but I did it anyway. It worked using the old logon and password, and our pictures where "green and checked" so I figured our profiles etc were intact.  That was a relief!🤪

 

About 2 hours later I received an email from Princess with a tracking number for our medallions. I suppose that's a coincidence, but who knows? 😎

 

According to the tracking information we should receive our medallions 18 days prior to our departure from Port Everglades.

 

Oh, as I entered whatever in the Medallion Class app, I denied the app access to everything.....I do not see why they'd need access to my phone records, photo gallery, or the ability to record audio, nor make calls......actually, I will probably exchange my medallion for an old cruise card once we are on board. The exchange, however, is mainly because I like to keep those cruise cards as a souvenir. We can use my wife's medallion for the basics and see how it goes.

I am about to order the medallion accessories for my upcoming cruise in 30 days.
What's the best way for kids (6 years old) to carry their madallion?

I do want them to have the ability to open the Cabin door. Do they need to Madallion gets close to the sensor?
I am debating between a watch style and lanyard.

Any recommendations?

Watch band.

Thy'll probably lose a lanyard anyway.

SIL and DN will be accompanying us on our next cruise.  They are first time cruisers and will be in their own cabin.  The cruise is Medallion Class on Regal and my SIL is coming to my house this weekend to complete both the Personalizer and MedallionClass App.  I have completed my Ocean Ready on my iPad.  If SIL has difficulty with her phone, can I use my MedallionClass app on my iPad to complete her Ocean Ready?

Yep. Just log yourself out and log her in.

I recently sent a message that one cruise was listed twice and that my profile information showed that it was incomplete, when in fact it was complete and yesterday I got an e-mail responding to my request to change my password!  SAY WHAT???

Hello,

Thank you for setting this thread up and for all the people who are helping us newbies to the medallion.

 

We received our medallions today and there was a pamphlet that said "Instructions". It looks more like an advertisement for the different options available (Ocean View, Play Ocean, Ocean Now, Ocean Casino & Ocean Compass). 

 

My question is, do I need to set anything up?  (I have already downloaded the MedallionClass app and set up everything in our profile on the Ocean Ready app. Is there anything else that I need to do?  Or do we just show up to the ship and the Medallions are ready to start working?

I had great difficulty scanning our passports because of the sheen on the first page.  Anyone else experience this?  How did you get around it?  I'm thinking of making a color photocopy of the passport and scanning the photocopy.

 

I also have had a problem uploading photos to Ocean Ready for the icons.  No matter how small I make the photos I only get the very center of the photo appearing in the circle.  If I were to try to upload an image of a jack o' lantern it would only show the orange tringle nose in the circle.  Any ideas for getting the whole photo to fit the circle?

I was able to upload the photos OK, although they weren't exactly centered, but apparently, good enough. 

 

Like you,  I had trouble scanning our passports because of the glare.  I tried quite a few times, with no success.

Finally, I asked my husband to stand directly in front of the window where the light was coming in (even though I had closed the blinds), so that I could see his shadow on my I-Phone screen.  I asked him not to move until I had finished scanning.  He agreed to do this, and I did manage to scan our passports.  It wasn't exactly easy.  Happy to report that we received our medallions yesterday for our Nov. 17 sailing.

I think it shows the reflection of the barcode which messes up.  If you take a picture of your passport using your ipad verses the scanner it should work.  LIke I mentioned I used my iphone and took picture of my wife and my passports

I am sailing on the Regal in February. I prefer not to  download the app. Is it possible to print a boarding pass at home, check in at Fort Lauderdale and get a Medallion at the terminal to use on the ship without interfacing with the app?   Can you pay for Internet and use it on a laptop without the app?

Question: We are doing 20 days on the Crown Princess in November and the day we disembark we will be moving over to the Sky Princess. Today we received our medallion box and inside was a medallion for my DH for the Crown Princess in November and the other medallion was for me for December for the Sky Princess. Why would we each get a different medallion in the same box and I guess I will be expected to go through the regular check in at the terminal for the Crown Princess and same for him for the Sky.
Has anyone else experienced this situation?

Everything was fine until yesterday.  When I opened the Medallion app I got this message: "Compass is Currently Unavailable We have "all hands on tech" working to get back online."

There is a Back button, but it doesn't work.  I'm okay with waiting until I board to get this right, but don't understand why all of a sudden I get this message?

Yet another glitch... .

I took your advice and was able to take a photo instead of scanning the passport page and it worked first time.  My niece e-mailed me a photo of her passport page and I printed a copy of that photo, then took a photo of that and that worked first time too.  Thanks for the help!
