As someone who loves wearing a tuxedo (even to casual holiday parties), you should know that some sweats and Ugg boots cost thousands of dollars more than most of the prom gowns worn pretentiously as formal wear in the MDR. You might think your rudeness was quiet, but fortunately they moved you before your toxicity ruined the cruise experience for fellow passengers.

Sorry, I don't care the cost. It was improper dress at night & yes, we would have moved. Then again we don't share tables, so it would not have affected us. I'd like to see these "sweats/Uggs that cost thousands of dollars!" I hardly can take your argument as serious!

Some can costs 1000s but I agree that’s not the point.

I believe Celebrity offers a nude cruise- Perhaps that would work for everyone!  LOL

I don't think the line offers them, but I'm sure some who charter a X ship can have a nude cruise.

I will not be in a tux, but will get dressed up for our evening chic nights.  I am from Kentucky, and men tend to get very creative and colorful when they attend the races on Derby week.  I plan to wear what I will call Derby attire on those 2 nights....Some inspiration!

That's certainly nice. I'm more Kentucky Derby, but without the tie.

Interesting that a tradition adherent would wear Kentucky Derby Derby-DAY clothes to dinner -- day wear that should not leave the light of the horse race -- and tout creativity, while discounting what others wear as "improper dress at night." And, yeah, what it costs is important for the thoroughbreds who run in those circles.

We went to a new Michelin star restaurant the other night, and there were people in suits, gowns, jeans, track suits, shorts, and even Derby Day wear, all enjoying the ambiance to which everyone contributed. But good on you if you would move tables in the Main Dining Room based upon someones clothing, freeing them up for non-judgemental people.

Speaking of shoes there was a person in luminae who removed his shoes when dinning, that’s when we requested a table far away.

We were at 2 different restaurants in Lucerne Switzerland, and people were removing their shoes. They were all lined up at the end of the table. I thought it odd - perhaps some sort of cultural thing. I gave it a thought, but continued on with my meal and forgot about it until now.

They do remove their shoes indoors in Japan as well.

It is called "Formal Night" not "Come as you are night". In years past Celebrity strictly enforced the formal dress code but that was in years past. Today a new, maybe not better, attitude exist regarding trying to maintain an atmosphere of elegance. I was one who personally enjoyed wearing a tux and my wife wearing a gown and miss it. Today, I accept the fact that the majority of cruisers reach for a more relaxed  dress code and try to conform. However, I believe there is absolutely no good reason for anyone seating in the MDR  to dress in beach attire much less dirty clothes.

No it's not called Formal Night! Celebrity now calls it Evening Chic.

Sorry, you are incorrect - it is not called "Formal Night", it is now called "Evening Chic" which in some situations can be   "Come as you are night"

Unfortunately I think it is gone 😞

you can always try another line where it is stated    " When formal nights are held, please observe the dress code in the Traditional Dining and Anytime Dining venues for the enjoyment of all our guests."

Celebrity's decision. Like Celebrity says, It's your time to shine your way. Get glamorous and be sophisticated in your own way. If you want to still wear a tuxedo or formal gown on evening chic nights, you absolutely should.

My family and I started cruising in the early 2000s, starting with European cruises. We used to go all out with tuxes, formal dresses, and all of the shoes to match. What's changed is the baggage limits that airlines have imposed.  When you're traveling across the country (or the world) to get to your cruise, you're held to that 50lb baggage limit and crazy fees if you're 51lbs or over. We used to get around this by packing an additional suitcase (additional 1 for every 2 people) for our formal clothes but now it's crazy $$ to pack additional bags!

I'm the type of person who packed a carry-on for my 2 week European honeymoon, but cruises are the only time I check a bag a year, and that's with paring down the long gowns and multiple fancy outfits.Cruises demand a lot of different outfits (day time, excursion, pool, evening, casual evening, gym...)  We still dress "formal" but not to the way we were 20 years ago.

We don't do the MDR anymore but I do like the idea of dressing up for a night - but if you don't  like dressing up, it's not going to ruin my vacation, I just have a better time people watching if you're in a beautiful gown 🙂

I seen a lot people dressed from anything from Tuxedos to casual wear. Tuxedos were in the minority but what surprised me the most was they are offering Tuxedos rental on the Summit website again.

Probably  no going to make much money there!

Things have changed over the years.  I used to take a tux and also a white dinner jacket and would alternate on formal nights.  I'm OK with country club casual but I've seen some it get sloppy.
