Ocean Ready Questions/Answers

We ordered our medallions/accessories on July 7th for our August 17th cruise.  Princess did not really process my order until July 23 when it showed up on my credit card.  We leave the US on the 14th.  Fed Ex tells me in the Fed Ex tracker that I am to get the package tomorrow (Aug 7th) but the package is still in Asia.  My Ocean ready app now tells me the items will be available at the port.  So far I am not impressed.  It is one less thing to pack but now I'm just annoyed that we ordered them in plenty of time and now they are not here.

TW6Cruiser,  I get why you are upset.   I have used the medallion and although I received mine prior to leaving for my cruise;  it really isn't that big of a deal.  You are ocean ready; so when you get to the port your medallion will be waiting for you.  The main thing I found out was; by being ocean ready, having the green checkmark on your ocean ready app; the time spent at the port waiting to get the medallion verses already having the medallion is minimal.  Everyone who boards the ship will have a medallion; regardless if they brought it with them or picked it up at the port.  Have fun with your medallion and on your cruise.

On my January cruise the hunt for the medallion at the port may have added an extra two minutes to the short waiting time to board. Not a problem at all. Actually it made one less thing to remember to take with us while heading out to cruise.

We will be on a transatlantic this autumn. I downloaded the Ocean Ready app and filled it in.  Got a reply email which said the medallions would be mailed to us. Everything fine.

Then I began to think about the security of this system.  The app required scanning in the first page of passports and photos.  Indeed, there’s a lot of info on the app, possibly even the onboard credit card of record since the app connects to Princess.  This could be an opening to identity theft.

After all, an app is just an app, not a secure website.

I hope some knowledgable folks out there can enlighten me about this.

I was able to register both myself and my husband on my app, scan our passports and order our medallions.  Our passports and pictures actually carried over from our January Regal sailing to our May Caribbean Princess sailing.  So it appears once you do it, you won't have to input all the information again.

How did you add extra people?

There needs to be a “How To” put out by the tech people if this is all to be part of the Medallion Ships 🤔

No reply yet??

We are also interested in the answer to this re: how secure is our information?

I believe to answer your question about the security of this app or the medallion itself; you have to remember to use a secure password; which will be used for the ocean ready app and also for the ocean.com website.  Since the app will be on your smart phone; make sure you have a secure password or face ID for your iphone.  With both these things in place you should not have to worry about someone stealing your identity.   I have been using both the app and the website and do not worry about being hacked.  I am sure Princess and Carnival both have their IT depart and security dept making sure all goes well.

We have a problem, we only have a flip phone, so I guess we do not get the Mediallions. Does anyone else have this problem? stewagra5@aol.com

You will get medallions at the port, don't worry.  I have a so called Samsung smart phone, but this Ocean stuff is not all supported for my model phone.  Specifically I can not have the app Ocean Now for use on board on the phone.  Ocean Ready is not a problem, though.  So I have a similar issue.

You are not correct.  The medallion is a little button the size of a quarter; that is taking the place of the cruise card. Having a flip phone means you can not download the app.  You can go on ocean.com and fill everything out there; and when you arrive at port your medallion will be waiting for you.  Once on the ship you can use touch screens all over to access ocean compass and other fun things.  Enjoy

Apologies in advance as I’m sure this has already been discussed in the previous few pages...

Is the picture that is uploaded by for identification purposes when getting on/off the ship, making purchases, etc, your passport photo or can you upload any current photo of yourself?

We are on a Royal B2B2B in September. We completed Ocean Ready for the first segment, but not sure if it's possible to add the two remaining segments. I searched this thread but was unable to find anything on this issue.

Will we just checkin and get the new medallion when they escort us to the desk between the cruises?

Thanks!

You only get one Medallion for the entire voyage, no matter how many segments you are on. Call your travel agent and have them link your bookings. It should then show up in the Ocean Ready app as one long cruise.

Have you added the OceanNow app? It should show the full itinerary for the 3 legs. I have a b2b2b2b in 3 weeks and it shows the entire itinerary.

Thank you! When I downloaded the Ocean Now app, there was (and still is) the attention note that I need to log in to Medallion WiFi when onboard so I hadn't looked any further. All three itineraries are indeed there.

It's not good news that there will only be one medallion since my husband is grumbling that they have taken away his cruise card which he keeps in a collection. Now he's going to grumble even more loudly 😞

Well he can start collecting medallions now, right? 😆

Long time cruisers: Was there as much fuss and dislike when they went from keys to cruise cards? (not a reference to quoted post)

There's a new app out there that combines the OceanReady app with some of the other Ocean Medallion apps. I just stumbled upon it. I put it on the main part of the Princess board, but here's the link in case you didn't see it. It should be easier now that we're not having to download a ton of apps!

I have a question.... or two... I have a cell phone, my husband does not.  He figures He's with me... why have a cell phone?  I get his feelings about having it.  HERE is the question.... IF I download the app does the app take care of both medallions?

Is there an advantage to having the app on my phone vs. NOT having the app on my phone?

THANKS for any advice 🙂

I did the entire Ocean Ready process on my cell phone for my wife and I.  One cell is enough.
