For my last two HAL bookings, both made in non-promo periods soon after they became available, thus enabling us to get our cabin choice, I considered refaring to take advantage of new promos. In both cases, however, the higher fares were more than the original fares plus the cost of the perks purchased separately. As Dave said, there are lots of variables and each cruise is different. good to know you both experienced similar......
Rare Roz Posted June 7, 2019 Author #52 Share Posted June 7, 2019 UPDATE: Just checked, and I still haven't been credited with my onboard spending. I haven't had a chance to type up a review, but there were several aspects to my cruises that left me wondering if I've become jaded to the whole cruise experience, or just Holland America. I bought an FCC, but I'm not anxious to book another HAL cruise anytime soon. Roz

AS cruising is changing so is much in our daily lives also changes .... that is recognizable as to how it 'used to be' While we all have the right to comment and complain about changes we think negative, Do we not all have a need" to comment about that which is still done so well? Most of us must think HAL cruises are pretty 'dam ship ' wonderful.. Is that not why we continue to book and sail and come here to CC to share our comments ?Speaking only of my recent cruises on Zaandam. That crew is outstanding As hard as they all work, there were some who SO went out of their way to be especially kind, thoughtful and friendly there is no way for me to adequately thank them but to recognize their kindness and and express my appreciation I hope I am able to return to Zaandam soon,,, AHHHHbut I must find a way to sail Noordam and Maasdam again

oceanmom Posted June 9, 2019 #68 Share Posted June 9, 2019 There is hope!! I just (June 9) received an email response from the Mariner Society for an email I sent on May 3 with several issues. I know when I cannot trust the accuracy and reliability of a customer reward program, I simply chose not to participate. HAL's is one that I do not care for - we do not monitor nor give it much value. I also understand your left wondering if you've become jaded. In the past several years, we have booked and cancelled several HAL cruises, something that we have never done in the past. The motivation to step on the ships is just not there at the moment. I wish you luck with your issue.

sail7seas Posted June 14, 2019 #73 Share Posted June 14, 2019 On 5/28/2019 at 7:08 PM, Crew News said: You earn one Mariner Day for each increment of $300 of spending (excludes casino) while on board. This includes online HAL purchases before the cruise. HAL is generous and rounds up to the next $300 increment. Suites get double the normal credit days creditied (7 days in a suite earn 14 Mariner Days). As you accumulate days, you can earn discounts on Specialty Restaurant dinners. At the highest level of 5* Mariner (500 day credits), you receive free laundry and two free Pinnacle Grill dinners, among other benefits. HAL excursions also count to earning Mariner Days while private excursions do not. Hope this helps your understanding.

After waiting for over 3 weeks for a response to my inquiry about the lack of suite credits in my history for my transatlantic on Zuiderdam in April/May, I called them. They had the suite credits applied in 30 seconds. It was super easy.
