Am I the only one tired of the marketing?

Recommended Posts

I am referring to the multiple emails a day about the %off planner items.

The "don't miss out",  "last chance", "expires in...(countdown clock)", 24 hours just added, this time we mean it, no, this time we really mean it that the offer is ending...

OK, I'm done ranting.

I usually keep a close eye on those, especially as our cruise nears. Sometimes you'll find a steel. That's how we got our drink package for $42/day on our Adventure cruise earlier this year.

Man yeah I get that multiple times a day. It's not completely annoying because it still cruise related and makes me think of cruises but there are a lot of them.

I get the part that it is still cruise related.  But I don't get excited anymore once I see what it is.

I think they can be turned off as well, but I don't want to miss actual information.

I just wish they would have the sale, and then end it. Stop telling me it is expiring when it never is.

I unsubscribed from them.  Of course, I have zero desire in Royal UP or casino offers  :)   Their "sales" are just marketing gimmicks.

Im not even sure how Royal UP would work for someone who requires a wheelchair accessible cabin.  I doubt we would ever get an offer.

Then you'll miss out on Royal UP and casino offers

I'll miss out the opportunity to over pay for any upgrade?  Sign me up!  Or is it unsign me up?

Actually I've lucked out.  Royal could never figure out how to send me marketing emails.  Checked or unchecked I don't get them.  Several calls and emails and they still can't figure it out.

Plus if I want to overpay for an upgrade I can always visit https://www.royalcaribbean.com/booked/cruise-room-upgrade

Husky.

I never said I hate marketing emails.

Marketing in itself is obviously important.

I said that I don't like the multiple marketing emails that threaten that the sale is ending & it is the last chance to save, and then it is not.

I'm not tired of it, but I can see how others might be.   I often think that if I was choosing a career over again, it might be marketing or advertising related, so these days I do analyze and scoff at this more often.

I thought you could go in the website and "turn off" your advertising emails?

I think that was true of the older website, haven't seen it on the new one, but haven't looked.  Who knows if it did anything.

Depending on what email platform you're using, you can easily filter emails by subject line or text contained in the email - right into the trash bin if you want.  I do this all the time with Microsoft Outlook (it's under File > Manage Rules & Alerts) - for example, you could filter out any email with '% off' in the subject/body while still receiving other RCI emails.  Takes all of 15 seconds to do.

Yes, we shouldn't have to go to those lengths to avoid spam from companies we're already paying thousands of dollars to, but at least there's a relatively easy way to avoid it.

You need to be this guy to keep a close eye on all their emails

Aren't you clever🤣

Why do you assume you have to overpay🤔

Ok to rant.  Good news is the Mets won't lose another game until Friday at the earliest.

We get at least one “sale” email a day. It’s a bit like the story my mother was fond of telling about Crying Wolf - God forbid there is an actual sale since they yell sale so much when there isn’t a genuine sale we are likely to ignore them when the real thing comes along 🤨
