Can’t believe any company would admit to paying their staff very poorly. I’m not even going to get into gratuities as it’s a pointless topic where ‘never the Twain shall meet’. GUT2407 Posted August 5, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 5, 2019 Seems Some service staff in US restaurants aren’t paid much more, without room meals and medical thrown in to the mix. Google says the minimum server wage across the US is $2.13 an hour.
mariefisher Posted August 5, 2019 #8 Share Posted August 5, 2019 You can google cruise ship job openings. You will see they make much more than that when you read the job listings.

I am aware of that, but had seen similar numbers quoted here on CC so thought it was at least close, seems unbelievable to me that they can do it, but then the minimum adult wage here in Aus is about $20 an hour.

It's Royal math. So $100 per month is probably around $3,000 in real money,, *** This post is strictly for entertainment purposes and does not reflect actual reality. 1

Jam0610 Posted August 5, 2019 #16 Share Posted August 5, 2019 I will only join this as a retired "restaurant owner". In some states minimum wage is only $ 2.13 per hour. In other states it is $ 7.50 to 13.50, Tips are not counted. I for one always pay required tips and add to total if service is earned. Servers and service providers deserve to be payed. No. Since the Manila Labor Convention of 2006 came into effect, the minimum wage and hours of work/rest for all seafarers, including everyone employed by anyone onboard a cruise ship is regulated. The minimum pay for a month on a 48 hour work week is $614. Cabin stewards and waiters who are in the tip pool receive much much more than this. JoeFan Posted August 6, 2019 #24 Share Posted August 6, 2019 Only in the cruise industry would an employer not pay their employees. Sorry but the person cooking your food is not a tipped position. The person cleaning the ship is not a tipped position. Would you tip the person who waters the plants or mows the lawn at a hotel or washes the sheets? No. Why should I tip because I am at sea? Why does RCI push this onto the passengers via automatic gratuity and make you feel guilty about it? Servers and Room Stewards. Everyone else should get paid with your cruise fare.
