I often ask my wife when we are on ship like this - what kind of passengers is carnival targeting?? It seems more of this is going on and the stories are plenty. I have decided I will not cruise out on NY in the summer based on my last couple of cruise - especially my last one because of the terrible element traveling with us. There was a gentleman walking around our ship with his pants down to his thighs and his boxer briefs exposed in the front and back. Sorry - this isn’t for me! Didn't help that we were over crowded on the ship as well but that’s a separate issue. Don't go on the dream on ANY 4 day cruise.
WMQueenie Posted September 5, 2019 #27 Share Posted September 5, 2019 Just got off the Sunrise and have to say it would be my last choice. The crew was amazing, the food in the main dining room was, in our opinion, the best we've ever had on a cruise. The passengers were friendly for the most part. But the buffet and lido deck are absolutely awful. Packed with people, the music was too loud, the pathways to the buffet from the pool area are ridiculous! Lines for everything up there. We ended up eating breakfast/brunch 7 out of 8 mornings and 6 out of 8 nights in the dining room (DH loves a buffet but not this one, he was disappointed). Excellent service and food in the Sunshine Restaurant, with one exception at brunch. The CD-Chris the Flying Scotsman was the best. Otherwise, we thought the entertainment was so-so. The ship's layout is choppy but I knew that beforehand and planned accordingly - we were on deck 8, take the elevator to 5 and go from there. Not a big deal. I agree with someone who said the photo gallery was a joke, they had stacks of pictures piled up on a table to dig through! Crazy. Main theater is too small, lobby is too small. Not enough bars to have a quiet drink at night... karaoke almost every night in the Red Frog Pub and the noise carried out to the Alchemy Bar (our favorite). The Sunrise certainly was my least favorite ship but we love to sail out of NYC and if it was the only choice and the price is right, we might sail her again, but then again, we might not... They are too small and I didn't feel there were enough activities planned. I just like the bigger ships with more "stuff" to do and more food choices. Same. Too small, dont care of the layouts....we sailed Imagination like 5 years ago and that was the last time for us.

hotsauce126 Posted September 5, 2019 #32 Share Posted September 5, 2019 I didn't hate the Breeze so much that I'd never sail on it again, but I wouldn't book it unless I was going with a big group or something. So little public space relative to the amount of passengers on board. Everything everywhere felt so crowded

Hopefully all will be ok, those 4 day cruises you just never know. I'm pretty sure the plan is eat, drink, lay in chair with cocktail, eat, drink some more, casino, eat, drink, drink, drink, sleep, repeat....that is, when the two of them aren't smoking. I don't foresee much activity. 🙂

Bookworm1985 Posted September 5, 2019 #35 Share Posted September 5, 2019 I haven’t hated any of the ships I have been on and would gladly sail any of them again if the price was right during the time I want and where I want to go to 🤷🏻♀️ I am not picky though. The only ship I haven’t really cared for was Royal’s Adventure of the Seas, but again, if there was a cruise I wanted and that was the ship so be it.
scoobikins Posted September 5, 2019 #36 Share Posted September 5, 2019 My first cruise was on the Ecstasy, probably 10 years ago. I have fond memories of her, but I doubt I would do a Fantasy class ship again simply due to their age. Probably my favorite class is the Conquest class. It seems to have the right balance of size and public areas. I recently was on the Dream, and while it boasts of more variety in food selections, it felt too crowded to me. I really hope Carnival doesn't decide to gradually 'Sunshine' the Conquest class ships.

Of course this is from someone who sailed on the Fantasy when she was brand new. 😀 This is me...I don't hesitate to book any of the ships. For me and my family, Carnival has never failed to deliver, regardless of the ship. Garnett

lostsoulcruiser Posted September 5, 2019 #40 Share Posted September 5, 2019 The Dream. Had an awful cabin (broken drawers under sofa, refrigerator not working). The worst of it all was the ac was not working when we got to the cabin, the steward called his supervisor. the supervisor took 20 minutes to explain Carnival's room temperature policy while holding an electronic thermometer. Finally took the room temperature and said "wow" (it was 80 degrees). Took 2 days to fix. There was no excuse for the condition of the cabin, how did it get by the people before us, cabin checks, etc. This was the second time we had a problem on the Dream, glad it left NOLA. Probably the worst one was the Festivale, by today's standards, but we had a great time on it back in '87. That's the ship that got us started. And I had a great time, too in '96. The only reason I wouldn't sail it again is that it was sold and scrapped.

PhillyFan33579 Posted September 5, 2019 #43 Share Posted September 5, 2019 I don’t know if I would say never, but Sunshine is easily my least favorite Carnival ship of the 11 I have cruised on.

I liked how you could still hear what was going on and see the large screen from the Serenity as well. I also loved the small bites in the Havana area. 5000 Posted September 5, 2019 #48 Share Posted September 5, 2019 I have sailed the Conquest class several times, and Freedom 3 times. It was fine Until the put the Serenity area just forward of the Lido speakers. It was so loud EVERY day, it really detracted from the Serenity area. I have not sailed on any Conquest class ship since. As it turns out, I really enjoy the Spirit class ships.

Like my wife said, there is nothing serene about the Serenity area on Sunshine. Personally I love the Serenity area on Spirit class ships...quiet area, pool, hot tub, large covered bar. But I agree with your last point about to each their own.
