Which Carnival ship(s) would you never sail again?

I really hated the Splendor and it was the first older Carnival ship where the decor REALLY,REALLY bothered me. I'm not quite sure who thought that BIG PINK Circles EVERYWHERE would make for a pleasant design motif.

The fact that people still talk about them makes it seem they did as they were intentioned.  Farcus always had themes and tried to make them.....um conversation pieces.  Seems it still works.

Any ship W/O an outdoor movie screen. I love the Spirit class ships, and the Legend is one of my faves, but no outdoor screen.

Entirely your opinion, but we sailed on the Horizon twice and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Mainly because we were smart enough to book a cabin in the Havana area both times and we did not have to worry about kids in hot tubs or adult soup in the pool.

Okay.  Coming from an admittedly small sample size of Fantasy, Sensation, Paradise, and Victory (Radiance, whatever), for my wife and I, it's Victory/Radiance.  

 

Its not that it was a bad cruise so to speak, but there were warts.  That was our first non-Fantasy class ship, and maybe our hopes were a little high.  My thoughts are that some of the walkway designs were entirely too small (between pool area and buffet - I had to weave between people to pass through.  I'd like to just walk around some). I dunno, there were some staff that were just incredible, but it seemed like we had a higher number of bored-acting crew than normal.  And it really does seem like there's a lot more officers wandering around in guest areas, not that that's bad.

 

Our best cruise was on Paradise a couple of years ago. Everything about that trip (with the exception of the snooty bartender in the casino lounge that did NOT get a cash tip) was just perfect.  I may never see him again, but Arturo, tending bar in the back of the buffet, was just the best, and I had a great time getting to know him.

I've cruised over 30 times on many ships from NCL, Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival, and the only negative experience that I remember was on the Princess Grand. It was her first cruise or second, I don't remember, out of Galveston. I'm assuming they probably had a large number of crew changes as well. But, it just seemed that the crew and staff were all out of sync. 

 

I was talking to one of the officers, and he hadn't been on the ship any longer than me. hi hi. 

 

The ship was great, nothing to complain about. Just the crew was out of sorts.

I dont feel like there is a particular company which I will not want to travel with. But if I had to choose it will be Princess probably.. just because the most issues with refunds among passengers were connected with this particular company. I would like to have to deal with them in regard of my refunds

Fantasy.  Too small and not many balcony staterooms.  When I first sailed on her back in 1992, I thought she was the bees knees so I do have fond memories.

For me, the newer the better.  I want big, with all the bells and whistles.  We have sailed over 30 times, 24 on Carnival.  We never get less than a balcony anymore.  We are older now and retired.  The kids are on there own. We have so much flexibility on when and where we cruise. A luxury that many people don't have. We will never sail on Fantasy class again.

I have enjoyed all my cruises, but if I had to pick one, I would say Valor, just something put me off with that ship.  I do like the class of ship, conquest class, but I just was not fond of that one.  Was a great cruise though in other ways, just the ship was not my favorite.

In any case, Carnival sent Splendor our way so I'm eager to check her out when/if I sail in November this year.

Although I did enjoy the recent overall experience, Carnival Sunrise is/was definitely a "one and done" cruise choice.

Triumph was junk when I went on it, 3 weeks before the engine room melt down lol.

But I really did enjoy the Paradise last year.

I've only been on three ships -- the Elation, Conquest (x2), and Vista -- and have spanned the size and age of Carnival.  When I went on the Vista, she was barely a year old and was the largest, newest ship in Carnival's fleet.  I also found myself on the Conquest twice by chance due to the time of year/itinerary options that I booked then my last cruise was a weekend trip on the Elation.  I enjoyed each cruise but they all had their quirks. 

 

Conquest - I sailed on her my first and second cruise.  She definitely showed her age and the decor is not my taste (I don't mind the Joe Farcus style but the Conquest wasn't my favorite).  At the time, she also didn't have the Serenity area which would've been nice.  However, I prefer the layout of the Conquest-class and ships and she did just fine.  I also never had any issues getting a lounge chair at the aft pool. 

 

Vista - She's pretty but is probably my least favorite.  She felt sterile inside, I missed the open atrium, and it just seemed like I was in strip mall as opposed to a cruise ship.  Now I know this is just a matter of taste -- as I said, I don't mind the extravagant style of most Carnival ships.  There was just something with the Vista, maybe all the white tile inside the promenade deck, that made it feel different.  

 

Elation - I missed the outdoor movie screen as I enjoy the Dive In Movies but for a weekend trip to the Bahamas, the ship was just fine.  It's actually my favorite cruise to date because of my company -- my other three cruises were with my ex but now I have a new cruise partner who definitely makes the experience more fun.  I know people hate on the weekend trips to Nassau and Freeport and while they weren't my favorite ports, the overall experience was the best I've had!

Sunrise.  The re-build was a disaster.  They packed in a bunch of staterooms to increase capacity, but they made the common areas practically unusable.  Serenity area was the worst in the fleet, and if you were not up there guarding a spot by 9 AM you could forget about getting in.  Lido area just added a bunch of tables.  You are sitting right up against the person at the table behind you, like touching them.  The area to walk past the burger and Mexican food stands  is the same spot where the people waiting for food have to stand, so you can't get past them and you have to go up a deck and over.  

 

It sucked.

I have lOVED every ship we have been on, but I probably would prefer not to go on a Fantasy ship. My first cruise was on the Fantasy [a free 3 day cruise] and I was instantly hooked. three days after coming home we booked the Elation for a week on the mexican Rivierra. I cried so hard when that cruise ended. So, a couple of days later we booked the same ship with the same itinerary.

Next cruise we booked was on the Conquest. I tried to prepare myself for a letdown, but OMG, this ship was even better, so we did it again the next year. 

Then twice on the magic.

It took a lot of convincing, because I loved the farcus touches, but we finally booked the Breeze. My last 8 cruises have been on the Breeze and I have heard so many negatives about the sunrise and the Vista ships that I may stay doing the Breeze until I die.

 

I look back on the fantasy ships, and when I read any mention of the fantasy or the elation, I still start shaking in excitement. I read all of the complaints, but then see pictures of the elation and it's beauty still astounds me. So, I guess I would pick the fantasy ships because their is no way they can compete with my memory of them.
