summer slope Posted September 11, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2019 Driving down the highway today and spotted to tenders from the Zuiderdam/Rotterdam. Strange to see them on the ground in the middle of the state.

Homosassa Posted September 11, 2019 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2019 Someone must have been preparing for the original proposed track of Dorian across the state. 2

Sir PMP Posted September 11, 2019 #11 Share Posted September 11, 2019 They must have fallen off the ships while they were in the Caribbean and drifted through the everglades to this town..

Lady Chew Posted September 11, 2019 #13 Share Posted September 11, 2019 We were on this year's WC. In Mumbai, we took the ferry to see the Elephanta Caves (very interesting). There is a long docking pier jutting out from land for the ferries, and you take a train on to the actual island. There were several old HAL tenders sitting there in the mudflats. I guess old tenders get sold? and end up in various places …
St Pete Cruiser Posted September 11, 2019 #14 Share Posted September 11, 2019 We were very pleased in July when we were on the Zuiderdam and tendered in NEW boats. I asked hotel manager Darren Lewis about them; he said corporate had replaced the originals with new ones at a cost of $280,000 each. They ran beautifully unlike the old ones, that belched smoke and fumes, and rode well. No more canvas covers and windows leaking water. Money well spent, IMHO.

Rare rafinmd Posted September 11, 2019 #18 Share Posted September 11, 2019 At last winter’s sail away so I had noticed that at least one of the ships (I think Zuiderdam) had mismatched tenders and Copper10-8 confirmed they were being replaced one by one. I guess that really is where old tenders retire. Roy

cruzn single Posted September 13, 2019 #21 Share Posted September 13, 2019 Didn’t anyone read the press release about the tenders being used for a new ride at an amusement park? It’s to be located at SeaWorld and is a ride to race the Orca whales.
chengkp75 Posted September 14, 2019 #22 Share Posted September 14, 2019 Years and years ago, I knew that Watercraft built lifeboats in the Orlando area, not sure if they were bought out by one of the major companies, haven't seen their boats in decades. catl331 Posted September 14, 2019 #23 Share Posted September 14, 2019 (edited) I Googled "Sebring FL boat manufacturing" and got three hits, all of which are just off Rte 98. Coupling that with what was said in posts 14 and 18, my guess is that these are NEW boats which are going TO Zuiderdam and Rotterdam.am and Edited September 14, 2019 by catl331

Big, big difference between a "boat builder" and a "lifeboat builder". Lifeboats have to be built to SOLAS requirements, and the manufacturing has to be certified by a national or international agency like the USCG or the IMO. They have to be built somewhere ... why not Sebring? Edited September 14, 2019 by catl331
