Smoking on Embarkation Panorama

My BFF's Wife is a heavy smoker.  I have read on a couple of reviews that ship doesn't allow smoking until after she sets sail.  If this is true, this will be a big issue for our group on having to wait several hours to smoke.

Normally, she goes to the casino bar and smokes on Embarkation day.  However, I have read on 2 different reviews that it wasn't allowed anywhere on the ship prior to sail away.

That is bad news that I haven't yet encountered, though I haven't cruised on that class of ship.

Smoking in the designated

outdoor areas isn't allowed because the ship is taking on fuel.

OP, I agree with Garth. If I was still a smoker I would book the last arrival slot and board knowing I have a better chance of being able to smoke without delay. I remember what it's like. It's up to the smoker to make adjustments and not Carnival to change an announced procedure. And yes, you read correctly from the reviews you have read. Carnival Panorama does not permit any smoking until have fueling and the fuel barge has left the side of the ship.

With us staying at Queen Mary next door I am not sure how late she will want to wait outside.  Plus we are platinum and normally board early.  I agree with you about the smoker having to make adjustments.  I am not a smoker and I am glad there designated smoking areas.  But, as the unofficial cruise director of our group, I try and find out everything about a ship, ports, policies, etc.. prior to sailing.

Is the no smoking during refueling only apply to the casino.  Will she be able to smoke outside in the designated smoking areas?

There is no smoking throughout the ship when it's being fueled.

If she's that reliant on smoking, a couple of nicotine patches while boarding should do the trick until she can light up.

I have sailed out of Long Beach and other ports before and I don't remember this being a policy.  Granted I don't smoke so I don't always pay attention.  But we have been on 6 or 7 cruises together and I don't remember her complaining.  Is this a new policy in Long Beach?

It's not a new policy for any ship while its being refueled.   Either you missed it, the ship wasn't being refueled or she wasn't Jonesing it before the ban during refueling was lifted.

Smoking outside would be worse than smoking in the casino. The entire ship is no smoking during the fueling process PERIOD

One of the reasons the casino isn't available for smoking, besides refueling, during embarkation on the Panorama is because everyone enters the ship into the casino instead of the lobby because of the walkway from the dome.  Long Beach doesn't usually have ships this big and apparently the bridge over had to be somewhat modified.

I was also going to recommend the patches and perhaps some nicotine gum.

The only other alternative, is she can keep going off the ship if she really needs a smoke. However, going up those ramps is hard enough for non smokers, let alone those who smoke. I would definitely go with gum or patches, like others suggested.

The Panorama is unique in this situation. During refueling, no outdoor smoking is permitted. This would normally leave the only smoking area in the casino. Unfortunately, due to the way Long Beach is configured, boarding needs to take place in front of the casino, so it is true that until refueling is complete, there is no smoking anywhere on the Panorama.

1025 thank you.  So am I safe in assuming this isn't the case on Vista class ships in general?
