I was told it could be up to 1 year.

I just need to phone the muscular skeletal clinic back within 6 month's to be placed on the hip replacement list so I will see how things go.

My Pauline had a hip replacement done approx 1997 and it's still fully functioning without any pain.  Although after her stroke it does not get put under the same pressure as before.

An an ining in an aw?

Bet you heard that one, it is a popular demonstration of Dundee dialect..

A bit like being in Boston and being asked to say “ car parked and Harvard Yard” to try to get the accent.

Is that when ordering a pie.An onion one as well.A lady I met told me that unless she was winding me up,lol.

Good morning.

It is sunny and 10°C here.

I had my hips assessed at 08.30am at the muscular skeletal unit and confirmed replacements needed although I will put off as long as possible.

I hope everyone has a great day.

I went yesterday to see the hip specialist, it is 12 months since I first went where I put the replacement off for 12 months. I have Arthritis in mine and it is well worn. However the pain has increased and I have bitten the bullet and gone on the waiting list, I have been told around five months wait, I will be having the op on the NHS but at the local BUPA hospital. I only need one replacement at the moment and don't want to wait any longer as I know I am putting stress on the good hip.

Must be worrying times for you guys, Hope all goes well .

Just to cheer you both up and I know Phil uses his bus pass , a bit of advice 🙂

If you are using public transport never give up your seat to an old lady...

That's how I lost my job as a bus driver.🥴

Take care 🙂

Afternoon all, day started lovely and sunny but the wind is cold, Now the rain is beating on my window, wish Spring would warm up!

@grapau27 sorry to hear you need both hips replaced. My Dad had one done at 70yrs old and I always said he was leaping about like a gazelle after! He had the second one done 10 years later which took a bit longer to recover from but he was 80 then.

I’m sure it will be worth it to get them done.

Very sorry to hear this Graham. You will know, won't you, at which point you feel your need is getting great enough to make the call. Is this news you were expecting or were you a bit shocked? You know I wish you all the best and hope you can fit in a few more cruises before you're confined to barracks. Best wishes. Jane xxx

Thanks kalos, not really worrying, just one of those things that comes with age, back in the day I used to do two marathons a week, now I struggle with a mars bar and a kitkat.

My father was from Cudworth but went to school from 11 in Barnsley. He had a few local words, such as pikelet for what’s a crumpet in the south, tabs for ears, and a few others I can’t remember. All the thee and thou was removed at school I think, but I’m not sure that’s Barnsley anyway is it? My grandparents always said though that ‘Our lad’s not t’same since he moved down south’!

Cudworth is Barnsley Harry. It's only a mile away from me. Just darn't road. My accent is neither one nor the other. Here they think I 'talk posh' and further south they hear the northern  tone. Neither Mum nor Dad ever lost their southern accent. They always drank their tea from a cap😉

Thank you Jane.

My doctor who works a couple of days a week for the muscular skeletal team told me last June when I had my first steroid injection in my knee.

His referral got misplaced and he sent another one a few weeks ago when I had my second steroid injection in my knee.

I phoned last week to chase the referral and today's assessment confirmed what he said.

We have 5 cruises booked so I'm reluctant to do anything until next July.

He was born in Monk Bretton, Avril, which is maybe even closer. My grandma drank her tea from a saucer - but only ever when she was trying to embarrass my mother in a cafe or restaurant. The rest of the time it was very definitely a coop, rather than a cap. And seeing that interpretation of the pronunciation reminds me that everything, absolutely everything, had to come from the Barnsley Co-op. With a dividend of half a crown in the pound.

Harry/Avril

All this talk of Yorkshire dialect and localities brings back many memories. My first job was in local government at Brierley Hall and my late mother-in-law lived in Monk Bretton. I was born and brought up in Hemsworth and used to see Geoffrey Boycott in the local Barclays Bank on a fairly regular basis. Think he was paying in money which his mam had caught in her pinny!

Charlie Williams was the typical Barnsley accent that I understood, but this was more the slang words than accent.  Maftin, brossend and croggy are three of the old slang words that still stick in my memory.

Avril

Do you remember the "eighteen carat" joke from Charlie Williams?

My dad has had both hips replaced twice and both knees replaced once as well

He got arthritis early from being a goalkeeper (all the diving around in training in the wet)

So he had both hips done in his early 50s and then again in his early 70s as the replacements back than weren't made to last so long

He's 79 now

The perfect end to our first bowling match of the season, we won away from home on the worst green that we have to play on, 114 to122.

DH had a glass of my favourite wine, Pinot Gris, waiting when I got home.
