NCL under investigation by Florida Atty General.

NCL is being investigated for the way they have handled the situation.   Apparently someone has sent internal emails of how they would try to get people to rebook instead of cancel.  They would tell them that the virus doesn’t live in warm so the Caribbean is perfect.  Stuff like that.

Wonder how this will affect them.

I already find myself wavering on wanting to come back to NCL.  Their customer service has been suspect and they really have been quite silent through this thing.

This has already been brought up. Maybe the AG needs to investigate your Governor who allowed spring breaks to happen before acting.

Was definately reactive than proactive. Just look at the Clearwater situation where 4 spring breakers have Covid-19

I haven’t seen anything on it here and was simply wondering what the impact could be so calm yourself.

i think the governor has been horrible in the response to this but that has 0 to do with this post.

Facts are facts. When you post the AG is investigateing they do have something in common. Both NCL and the Governor both did shady things.

Go on the Internet and search on NCL Attorney General investigations over internal emails. They received a rebuke from two senators over the contents of the emails. I will not repeat to avoid misquoting issues.

I cannot say DeSantis is the sharpest knife in the drawer, but what did he do that was shady? Cruise related actions/lack of?

OMG. Are we ready for the replies on this?

Please relate to how this impacts cruising as it does have implications.

NCL reps repeated exactly what the President of the United States was saying on TV about the virus not being able to withstand warm temps and that it would be gone with the arrival of Spring and now NCL is under investigation?

You've hit the nail on the head. NCL has the perfect defense. POTUS said it was so, so why can't NCL? :classic_biggrin:

Oh yeah, the President is without a doubt an infectious disease specialist.  You can always take his word as gospel.

I dont recall the President of the United States saying exactly this: “The only thing you need to worry about for your cruise is do you have enough sunscreen,” and “The coronavirus can only survive in cold temperatures, so the Caribbean is a fantastic choice for your next cruise.”  I do recall the President being hopeful that the virus may act like other virus's which tend to lessen as the weather gets better.  "Hope is a good thing perhaps the best of things"

Wow, you sound ridiculous. Some people will never admit the cruise lines are wrong. Not

to say anything but maybe they needed this wake up call after nickel and diming

us for the past decade. Karma

What's he going to say next?

Mexico is paying for my cruise?

Using what the President says on TV is not the best defense out there.

The average temperature in Singapore durning the height of its break out was 89 F.    Not all countries are located in the upper part of Northern Hemisphere but indeed are near the Equator or in the Southern Hemisphere.  So it has been summer in some of the countries affected and just now turning to fall.  Others,  such as Singapore never do have a winter.

Truth is there is not enough information yet to make such a claim.  NCL executives  know this. They send their ships all over the  world so need to prepare for the different climates, weather  and the seasons.

And now, when the overnight low is often 80 F, Singapore is having a new uptick, causing them to close for the next two weeks.  Hong Kong getting warmer, also having more positive tests. Give me a break.  If this is the case, then why not post everything the AG should be investigating?

The reality is, you don't like that someone posted something negative about NCL.  Your colors are showing.

Wow.  I didn't realize that people still actually believed the things he says.  I know lots of people like what he says and are OK with that, but, I thought everyone at this point knows most of what he says is BS.

LOL.  The President is not selling a product and did not create a memo based on falsehoods that could lead to quarantines or even worse. If your standard for companies is "The president or someone else said that so its ok"  we are all in trouble.    If the president says we should all eat lead paint, should we?  Thankfully states have commercial fraud units that investigate such bogus claims that would have put people at risk of quarantine or worse.

IMHO, if anyone on the board of NCL was aware of this bogus, dangerous, and fraudulent ad they should resign in shame.  It was panic selling without any concern of their passengers.  Children in 4th grade would not have even come up with this stupidity.

BTW, the Florida Attorney General is a huge Trump supporter and ally.  She wrote briefs supporting Trump during impeachment (as AG of Florida she really had no reason to do so).   So apparently this was a bridge too far and does not agree with your philosophy that if the president says something, that makes everyone immune from acting on it.

Yes, how devastating after the all the work to control.  Even Dr. Fauci states there is not enough evidence to support a seasonal cycling.  But we can hope.

Here is what I know.  There seems to be evidence that the reps were directed to say things that were not even remotely true. That has absolutely nothing to do with what the president or governor does or does not do.  I’m just wondering what kind of impact it may have going forward.

I also have noticed that NCL’s public/media relations team is so far behind the other companies it’s sad.

I think something like this is an extremely tiny blip on the radar for a company when you look at the big picture of everything that is going on and the events that still haven't peaked yet.  It will be forgotten as quickly as DSC levels from 2017.  Slap on the hand, at most.  That's how it seems to go nowadays.

Nope not true colors, I've had my issues with NCL, however how many times must we rehash FCC Credit as opposed to money returned, when will NCL cancel April cruises, the AG needs to investigate ( don't people realize the cruise lines have very good lawyers), etc.

There are so many things the AG should/could go after in many states. The fact of the matter is Fla. economy benefits greatly from cruise lines being there. Like Spring Breakers, who this year were allowed to continue with the festivities after the Covid-19 virus was spreading. It provides huge dollars to the state of Fla.

NCL like other cruise lines and for that matter many corporations will test the limits on what they can get away with. Again with consultation of lawyers.

Does NCL have a business model many don't agree with, probably, but they don't have a problem filling ships.

Look, is what NCL sales reps were saying gross and a slimy sales tactic? Sure! Were they stating things without actual facts to back them up? Sure! But, first of all, it wasn't "NCL Executives", it was one sales director and we do not yet know how far up the chain it might have gone. Second of all, the facts of the virus were (and still are to some extent) unknown. If you are dumb enough to take medical advice from a cruise sales rep... or even the President of the United States... I don't think there's much hope for you anyway.
