indiana123 Posted April 10, 2020 #251 Share Posted April 10, 2020 Good one ZAP99 😄 Have fun on the cruise and don't linger in the buffet. Also I had to smile at FOR EXERCISE FOR EXERCISE. It was always in the same tone of voice and never forgotten somehow. Any non cruisers wouldn't have any idea what we are on about

My DW and I are going to do a 7 night cruise tomorrow. We will start at Woking and go to.........Woking. We will have a virtual lifeboat drill at our virtual muster station on the patio. After that we will pile our plates up from the fridge and cupboard, walk around the house trying to find somewhere to sit and pretend we are in the buffet😁 Sounds good to us --- we have the cocktails and pinot grigio as well …. :-)

Rare Eddie99 Posted June 26, 2020 #257 Share Posted June 26, 2020 I knew I’d find this thread if I looked back far enough ... So, if anyone has any new thoughts, please go ahead My question. Has anyone been on a Warner Leisure break? I thought this might be the answer to our “how do we holiday now?” question. However, I think it would be fair to say there are *mixed reviews* on the internet. I wasn’t desperately impressed by their menus considering their prices. Or the wine prices. I noted a few cruise regulars in the entertainers ... Micky Zany for one So. A “sort of” cruise experience. Plus - no danger of seasickness. No passport or health insurance required Minus - it’s not all inclusive. You never go anywhere. British weather The jury is out. I don’t think so, at the moment, but who knows what desperation might bring?
indiana123 Posted June 26, 2020 #258 Share Posted June 26, 2020 We did it the Christmas before last. We enjoyed it but thought it very expensive.. well over a grand for a few days exclusive of drinks etc. We found there wasn't a lot going on during the day and the games room was shoddy to say the least. It 's fine if you like to socialise in the bars during the day or go sightseeing. One thing we did find was although the dancers had long slots before the cabaret and after as well, one couple came down during the cabaret which meant others followed, so we could hear but not see the group, as the stage was not very elevated. If there are groups you like or a themed weekend, especially if you go with friends, I think it would be fun.

They are always clean, some food is better than others, swimming area is always clean and tidy and often almost empty. Unfortunately our only 2 weekends away this year have been to Warner's. The last one the weekend before lockdown. Their new procedures look ok, so maybe give them a try soon. See how our 2 weeks in Cornwall turn out first though.

I have had probably one of the best dining experiences I have ever had in Thornton Hall, and probably the worst carvery I have ever had at one in Suffolk, can't remember the name.. A bit like P&O really, you will get very mixed reviews. Andy
Rare Eddie99 Posted June 27, 2020 #262 Share Posted June 27, 2020 Thanks Andy, and everyone Mixed is right. Some reviews can’t praise highly enough, some find it hard to award even one star. I can’t help thinking “... but you’re not even going abroad”. We’ll see. Water to go under bridges etc. I’m feeling a bit despondent about future leisure opportunities. There seems so little progress. More Covid deaths yesterday than the previous Friday. Perhaps I should emigrate to Scotland? Their policies appear more effective

yorkshirephil Posted June 29, 2020 #266 Share Posted June 29, 2020 We like the Warner breaks, bit like cruising on land. However I wouldn't want a 35 night Warner break in winter. They are great for a short getaway. We went to Cyprus in March and had a great time, our first non cruise holiday for 10 years. I think we surprised ourselves. However we are still looking forward to cruising again but are happy to wait and see how things pan out.
groovechick Posted June 29, 2020 #267 Share Posted June 29, 2020 I've just caught up on this thread and can I say what a wonderful lot you are! Thank you for giving me more laughs than I've had in a very long time. It's been a horrendous few months and not just because of the virus (our teenage son is struggling with depression and anxiety and has made 2 serious suicide attempts). We cruise rarely (every couple of years) so I don't post here much, but I love reading the threads. I would very much be up for joining your cruise withdrawal club Andy. Quite agree about the beauty of the UK. We have holidayed in quite a few places and do lots of days out, but there is so much more to see. I don't know if I'm allowed to put this and if not mods please edit, but if anyone fancies glamping in the beautiful Peak District (my home patch), my friend's son lost his job and home in London due to coronavirus and has gone "home" and set up a glamping business with a friend. He's hardworking, enterprising and deserves a bit of luck...

I hope he is receiving the professional help he seems to need to go alongside the support you are undoubtedly providing. It is a pity you can’t give any more information about your son’s friend’s glamping business. The Peak District is not a million miles away from us and a short break would be good. I don’t suppose he has called it ‘groovechick glamping’ or anything else so recognisable. Some of us on here have virtual shares in a virtual caravan which would lower the tone of any glamping site. Beware contact from a Mr Kalos! 😎😇 3

He has tried several antidepressants which were ineffective and gave him horrendous side effects. He has already been waiting 12 months for counselling and has been told it will be at least another 6, so we are paying privately, which we can ill afoord, but what can you do when it's your son's health and wellbeing? We are starting to see some improvement, so fingers crossed.

Thank you P&O Sue. Indeed, although in a strange way lockdown has probably been good for him, in that it has kept him away from the people/things which were/are at the root of many of his problems and given him time to learn to cope.
