Social Distancing on a Cruise Ship?

Yes, we always get the drink package. Don’t you get 3 free drinks on your Sea Pass card for HH?

Yes we do. We prefer the lounge to the bars. The question is social distancing, your suggestion was to close the lounge, my point is why discriminate, treat everybody the same and close them all.

Plus, closing the lounges will just [lift &] shift the crowds to the bars.

We agreed 100%, how they do this in the Diamond club? the way it is right now there not enough room for everyone..

DL/SL overflow lounges on every ship.

1 way system in passenger corridors.

No drinks and face masks to be worn in the theatre.

They can set policies for social distancing all they like, but once you add alcohol it will all go out the window. You just have to look at what happened in the U.K. at pubs over the weekend when they opened up.

I don’t consider social distancing achievable with drink packages

Also if you aren't married and only shaking up with a higher tier level you do not receive the same tier level. If your partner doesn't have the cruise points to be at least diamond go elsewhere for your evening drinks. No access to the DL or any other benefits/perks for not being in the top three tier levels based on your cruise points. The DL concierges need to check everyone's Sea Pass cards to ensure they are at least diamond before they are allowed in. If you're caught sneaking someone in that isn't at least diamond you are banned from the DL during that cruise. OK, I'll remove my rose colored glasses. 😍

Interesting perspective.

We have the Diamond Lounge/Club that typically all Diamond and above have access. Suite Guest do not have access if not Diamond (so I’m told).

Curious, do you not agree that the C&A Lounges are a Diamond Perk and the Suite Amenities include the CL/SL?

Why would you suggest doing away with Suite access if they can maintain social distancing in the CL/SL?

I have no idea how one could control social distancing in the CL/SL if D+/P are permitted along with the Suite guest. I believe they could control social distancing if just Suites are permitted in.

Trying to figure out the logic with, if we can’t have access, the Suites shouldn’t either. Maybe an amenity that is worth a bump up to a Suite.

This is better than debating what Florida is doing wrong/right.

Thanks

I'll do my best by drinking a lot more alcohol to ensure I don't have CV-19. 🤣

Who ends up in the overflow lounge?  I’d be really po’d as a Suite Guest if we didn’t have access to either one. I know on Serenade, big crowd every night. Mario ended up setting up seats reserved for Suite Guests.  Had a placard on the table(s).

On Freedom the DL and SL are on opposite sides of the VCL so the whole VCL during HH could be used as overflow.

RCL need to enhance Suite only perks to reflect the prices paid for Suites.

Only for clarification (as I know you know this) if you are a suite guest and at least diamond, agree. Suite guests do not have access to the DL if they are not at least diamond.

That’s my understanding and have been told. I can’t test it anymore.

We were Emerald and our Gold Card opened the DL door on both Enchantment, Serenade, and Brilliance. Can’t try that anymore.

Thank you but it’s a perk for C&A and an amenity for Suite Guest but I think I understood where you were coming from.

M8

Yes.

Suite guest amenities should reflect the  premium prices paid for Suites and only be available to Suite guests.

Lol "other than an ocean view".  For many people, that's what they enjoy most about cruising.  Also, can you visit several different countries while at home?  I can't.

I also enjoy seeing the shows, and visiting the casino.  They might be run differently, but I didn't see where those would be eliminated.  Did you?

Whatever floats your boat - no pun intended.  The ocean view isn't worth the hassle and apparently isn't to many others who post here either. That was my only point. Unless the virus is totally under control there will be too many restrictions for it to be fun for me.

If masks and social distancing are still a requirement then the pandemic is still

not over. I feel like the CDC will not lift it's 'No-Sail' order until there is a proven

vaccine and the pandemic has been contained.

A matter of perspective:

  • Opportunity to express artistic creativity through fashion sensitive facial coverings
  • More room in and around pools, no chair hogs
  • More attentive dining and bar services
  • Less crowding in lounges
  • Less pushing and shoving on elevators
  • More room in theaters and other performance venues
  • Less crowding in ports

I would love to see any of these, but wonder about the last one.  I think the ports themselves need to limit the number of ships in port on any given day.  St Maarten with only one ship in port is heaven.

Let me be part of the solution.

There is no way i would take a 3 hour flight to florida to get on a cruse ship with all the restrictions that are going to be

placed on a passenger .

I will wait until this virus blows over and then may consider a cruise , but for the next couple of years , no chance .

This will leave a little more space for the avid cruiser that wants to get on a ship asap.

Enjoy your cruise .

Cheers !

Social distancing on a ship is not practical. Even if it's 99% effective (doubtful) there's still a chance.

Here's the way to do it:

- Require recent negative test before boarding

- Maximum 7 nights per passenger, B2B requires a new negative test within 72 hours

That way if anyone is infected they will be long gone before there can be an outbreak onboard. In this sense it's no different than visiting Walmart.

Alternating days are an option. Limited slot frames per visit is another. Managing the DLs can be relatively easy. It's managing the Ds & D+s. That is the challenge. But the time to make changes is now as there is a built in excuse.

Some of the above will only be possible if they ban the entitled, selfish passengers; you know they won't.

New portions of the health questionnaires

1) Have you had a fever or difficulty breathing in the past 72 hours?
2) Scratch and sniff the box below and describe what you smell.

3) Are you entitled and/or selfish?

Without taking drinks into account , Social Distancing will be virtually impossible on a ship.

First problem being  pax won't pay attention no matter what the cruise lines say/do.

A negative test today can be a positive test tomorrow.  4500 negative tests today can become many many positive tests tomorrow = major outbreak.
