If they do 2 to a cabin it will make it impossible for a family of 5 to cruise.  I would hope they would make an exception and allow a family of 5 to split 3 and 2.

There is NO reason when a family travels together that social distancing should be exempt, same name/address can share the same cabin, no debate the name thing, LOL

I don't think Carnival is going to completely do away with three person cabins because regardless of whether or not a 6 year old or a 6 months old "can" or "should" sleep in a separate cabin, some people still want the option of a 3 person cabin and aren't going to book a cruise if they have to book an extra single room they don't use just to take their baby or their family of 5.  Carnival might just make the 3rd and 4th person in the same cabins full price.  On my Christmas cruise last year on the Vista, it was cheaper for me to book two cabins for three people than to book 1 three person cabin because those cabins were in demand.

I predict that they are going to limit many of the less expensive inside or window cabins rather than completely do away with 3 and 4 person per room bookings.

The other reason I think this is when I tried to book an adjoining balcony to an inside room for next summer on two cruises, none showed up on the website but when I called the carnival rep found ones not showing up on the internet which tells me they are blocking off certain rooms. Plus, when I was searching for cruises for next summer,  I noticed very few inside and OV available for sailings that had many balconies and OS available.  The sailings I was looking at even often had many of the rooms available that typically go first (like bowling alley balconies or the aft extended balconies or Vista wraps), but almost no inside rooms.  Making this make even less sense is I was looking at Norwegian Fjord and Iceland cruises where typically no one wants an inside room.

Forgot about the casino. That can be added to my list sometimes. Nothing huge but I may drop a couple hundred there. Last year I gave them a six month interest free loan when I forgot to cash chips in.

Hmmm.. interesting discussion on single fares paying double.  Obviously the poster who said it was fair for singles but not families has never had to pay the onerous (and unfair) double fee.  I am with Saint Greg... and Jammen54... 150% - seems reasonable.   When I write the check for double, not so much!!!!  Love cruising, hate the single  (double!!) fee!!!!!!  Just my 2 cents worth... er, wait - 4 cents worth 🙂

They aren’t. Although it seems like it with the prices I got on my November, December, and February Vista cruises. I did hear JH recently say they may entertain the idea of double points though.

The point I brought up about it had nothing to do with social distancing people in the cabin from each other. It was about reducing the overall numbers on the ship while maximizing profits by eliminating the additional people in the rooms.

The first two people pay more than the 3rd and 4th people so instead of not selling one room and putting 4 people in another. They’d be better off putting 2 people in each room. Or better yet one person who pays double in one of the rooms.

It would be great if they reduced the capacity to help with the social distancing. But , all they care avbout is the dollar. My 42 day cruise on the HAL Maasdam that i cancelled before final payment, the ship is out of the fleet and sold as of August 2020. A similar cruise for 2021 is double the price and 50 days, the first itinerary was better.holland America looks at thebottomline which is the money.

Are they cancelling the single supplements? That is one way to encourage reduced capacity.

that would be great.I pay a 79% surcharge to travel alone. On Holland America, the other cruise lines are very close to 100% surcharge.

I think it’s ridiculous to do this all the way to 2022, and I do hope we get to go on our Transatlantic cruise in November of this year. I just think it’s time to get on with living.  Wash your hands!

washing your hands is the least of it, tell that to the other 3-4000 people on some cruise ships and see who listens.

I'd be psyched to sail at reduced capacity throught 2022 if that actually happens, which I doubt it will.  4 booked cruises so those prices are locked..

I agree! My husband and I have a cruise that we are on in early January. Not sure if it is going, but if it does at half cap that would be nice with it being our honeymoon! He has only been on one cruise years ago and I have been on three but when I was a kid like 20 years ago...so to go on one would be great plus its on the Panorama!!! Very excited 😁 we are willing to be part of the bookings that postpone our booking to a later date in return for fcc. Mostly because we already paid in full, and are set on going on a cruise! If we push the date back it would just give us more time to save up for spending money.

When it comes to how things will be on board, we are anticipating less overall people, obviously...social distancing and other protocols in place like face masks. We are from Central California so face masks are required everywhere already so that is nothing different. I just hope when I'm on the serenity deck working on my tan I don't get a face mask tan haha

Personally I think if you are going to go on a cruise in the next year or two be prepared for it to be very different than it used to be. For instance if wearing a mask might bother you or your not a fan of social distancing don't go...We don't necessarily believe in these precautions, but we follow them to make everyone happy and keep the peace. But if you're one to not like these or follow them then cruises probably aren't for you for the foreseeable future...

I hope I'm not coming off preachy...I don't have anyone to talk to about this stuff so just putting my two sense out there for everyone to chew on.

Thanks for listening 😊

Not sure if limited capacity is happening on my 10/18/20 breeze cruise. I looked today and the sailing finally showed back up on carnival site. They have blocks of cabins available to book. I really thought carnival would skip cabins like most restaurants skip tables now

Capacity on that cruise will be zero.

Yes I realize this cruise has zero chance of sailing but carnival is still booking blocks of cabins together on most cruises.

i think it is because they are trying to get as much cash as possible to still keep cash flowing, kind of the same reason they are selling ships...in my opinion of course.

Well I didn't say I agreed with it, just making an observation is all. Business is not always pretty... plus they are offering FCC plus some, so it's not like your losing everything you put into it. In fact I wish I had enough money to book a cruise for November or something in anticipation that it might be canceled and get extra benefits for it... let them play their game and just try to get what you can out of it to your own benefit...

Not sure how often other people are in their cabin. I know my family isn’t in our cabin but to change clothes and sleep. So carnival is still filling the cabins. Wonder how the lido will be on sea days. My bet is it will be full of cruisers using the pool and bars. Can’t see much social distancing happening in popular places on the ship.
