Maybe we as cruise passengers should be pushing for Carnival and other cruise companies to opt for a more environmentally sustainable scrapping of the ships than what is carried out in Turkey.

If I'm reading the above document correctly, it was written back in 2006.  Since then, several Turkish shipyards have adopted the EU environmental standard for shipbreaking.  See the link below...

You realize that Carnival Corporation has an established history of not being concerned for the environment, right?

While it is not great, Turkey is much better than Alang and the ones in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Aliaga is a EU certified breaker yard when it comes to environmental standards. These ships are not EU flagged and carnival could have sent them to either of the other three yards. The cruise lines can get a lot more $$$ from the South Asian breakers, but opted not to go that route.Aliaga uses cranes to demolish the ships, rather than  hands to demolish each ship.

They have to get there first.  Fantasy is still in the Atlantic,a coule of days from the Straits of Gibraltar.   Inspiration quite far behind her.  Sovereign will be next.  Interesting that Monarch may be beached, but her AIS is still sending, and destination is Cartagena...EM

The AIS transponder on the Monarch will be turned off for good within the few days as it’s days as a ship are now over. It never showed Aliaga as a destination like the Sovereign did.

So for once, Carnival is making a good decision?

Booking for the Fantasy now closed.

I'm still seeing it on carnival.com for booking. Where is it closed? Only a matter of time IMO. Hard to deny with the ship destination update.

...and yet some folks on here were defiant as little as a week ago that this is all conspiracy theory talk. The waters in the Sea of Denial are getting rough for those folks.

Likely either heading toward the scrapper with the Inspiration and Fantasy, or it is being moved to another port. Suspect we will find out soon.

I was hoping the Fantasy scrapping was not true but to be honest most of us has recognized for months that the cruising industry is in for major downsizing. Who knows what ships will be out there next year?

Carnival will be moving several ships around due to the downsizing, so bookings will be closed as a result. Some will be outright canceled and others temporarily closed to move passengers to different categories like for ones originally taken place on Fantasy class ships to bigger and newer ones where balconies exist.
