We went to Munich the week before Oktoberfest. We had a great time at the Hofbrauhaus, I have never been in a beer hall that big before or since. What a great time. We chose to miss Oktoberfest because there are way too many people who being way too stupid at Oktoberfest. Lynn really doesn't like crowds, Hofbrauhaus was about as big of a crowd that she could handle. 

We went first thing in the morning, halls open at 10am, did a bit of a hall crawl through the various tents / halls having a stein (1L) in each before heading back to the hotel for a nap. We went back later that evening for some more but as we didn't have a table booked, it got difficult to find a place to drink in the halls. We went back a few more times during our stay in Munich, great atmosphere and loads of fun.

Ah dang it, I was thinking it might be  that volcano region in south Victoria and was Googling craters from there😜. Guess it is back to square one 😂.

Takayama is a gorgeous little town, with quite a few beautiful historical buildings. It's also the centre of the Hida beef region and we went to a restaurant where we had a dish called Hoba Miso. Each person got a  little ceramic stove, heated by some form of candle or fuel that gave off quite a bit of heat – enough to cook slowly on. On top of the stove was a mesh plate covered in foil, and on top of this was the hoba – a large magnolia leaf. On this was miso paste, onions, tofu, bean sprouts and thin slices of Hida beef. Once it started cooking you tossed it around until it was cooked to your satisfaction. It was absolutely delicious.
