And STILL no word from Carnival!

We're booked on Jan 10 Pride 14 day outta Baltimore for the Panama Canal. We've known for some time now this cruise wasn't gonna happen. Now, it's absolutely certain not to happen and still no word from Carnival. Wonder how long they're gonna make us wait for our money this time (May Bermuda cruise also canx).

We don't "know" anything at this point.  But I think it's very likely that January, at a minimum, will be cancelled.

 

I have a B2B on HAL for 1/9 & 1/16 that are free casino cruises.  I'm going to be crushed when those are cancelled.

 

I'm sure there's an economic reason for having "rolling" cancellations.  Of course they want to hang onto money for as long as they can.  And they don't want to cancel prematurely when everything is still very much up in the air on when sailing might resume.

 

Can you imagine the outrage if they cancelled several months at once and then, suddenly, it's determined that cruising can resume?  The people who had their sailings cancelled needlessly would be livid, especially if they couldn't rebook what they had at the price they paid.

How do you know the January 10 cruise on Pride out of Baltimore is cancelled?  I have not seen anything about January.  We are supposed to sail on that same ship from that same port on January 3.

Everything is still up in the air. They don't/won't know until the "test sailings" are complete. 

 

If they go well cruising could resume in January, if they don't things are pushed back again.

I think out of respect if not going to cruise in January they should let us know I would have to cancell transportation that I would suffer a penalty in a certain amount of time plus other arrangments I have made for kenneling my dog

Because she said it's a 14 day cruise to panama, and the cdc has said no cruises over 7 days.

Your money is earning interest for them. And Carnival is quite satisfied with that.

Would ask that we all remain patient. Carnival will work it all out in due time. They are not the number one Cruise Line by accident.

It probably has a lot more to do with cash flow and cancelling when it is a 100% certainty vs earning interest on 2 months of revenue while they are losing billions.

It's a good guess. 

But just a guess, not official yet.  A good guess, very likely to pan out that way.  But not officially announced.  Carnival can't very well say "hey, we might cancel your sailing, so assume we are for now.  But we might not."

 

The poster is just either gonna have to wait for Carnival to tell them whether it is sailing or not, or be pro-active and cancel/move the sailing to another date.

This is such an old trope it's ridiculous. Pretty sure with a 4.4 billion loss thus far, Carnival is using income to keep the lights on.

Our 14 day Pride November 2020 was cancelled. We didn't find out til 30 days out from the cruise. There is still time for them to let you know.

Well, in the interest (yuk yuk) of fairness in the overall picture, any excess cash they use to offset expenses is less money they have to borrow at a very non-zero interest rate.  So they do save money that way.

 

So in that sense Carnival does benefit by holding on to deposits longer.  Is that their primary motivation?  I have no idea.

The CDC isn't allowing anything more than 7 day cruises. This is a 14 day cruise. Additionally, who's gonna cruise out of Baltimore for 7 days in Jan. It'd take 3 days to reach warm weather + 3 days to get home to the cold. You really think that's gonna happen?

We have a 15 day cruise out of San Diego going to Hawaii (Feb. 2021) that we have not had cancelled yet.  Even if it wasn't cancelled by Carnival, the State of Hawaii still has restrictions in place for Covid-19. 

 

I called Carnival today to inquire and was told it is likely going to be cancelled.  They helped me re-book for Feb 2023 with a very minimal deposit so that I can transfer our credit later.

It is laughable to think Carnival is profiting off of cruise deposits. Accounting for and keeping track of that money certainly has costs and interest rates are basically zero. As the CLIA is threatening to restart cruising, there may only be a month or two of deposits in question. And cruising certainly could restart in January.
