Yup, most were old with underlying conditions.  This is exactly what is going on in most of the country.  We should focus on protecting the vulnerable and just mitigate the risk elsewhere, instead of these mass shutdowns and insane restrictions on industries.

Don't let government cripple yet another industry for "the greater good".

The "greater good" as you call it are human lives!

So is it your view that the cruise industry is more important than your mother, father, grandparents, spouse. children?

If they are vulnerable, then they should not go on a cruise.  It's called personal responsibility 😀

Typical ignorant false comparison.  50,000 people die in car accidents, so I dont let my parents drive.  5000 annual choking deaths, so I don't let my kids eat.  Not married because somewhere between 24% and 72% of spouses cheat, so I got a divorce.

Nonsensical comparison.

Eating is a necessity.

Driving is a necessity.

Cruising is not.

They don’t have to go on a cruise, all is needed is some arrogant, selfish person to bring it home with them, after they cruise. What would you call that?

Earning a living and keeping economy alive is not a necessity? 🤔

245,000 consumers have died.

There is a way we can fight COVID and keep the economy going.  It's not an either/or.  Fortunately, we now have a task force in place that will eventually do that.

Yogimax I don't know you but i truly care for you.  If you are uncomfortable don't go on a cruise.  Please.  An industry of over a million people employed is shut down.  Millions more want to cruise again but can't.  I understand it's a want and not a need.  Free enterprise and freedom means we get to choose our wants and pursue them with abandon with minimal interference by the likes of Blumenthal, the government as a whole, or folks like yourself.  Let you do you and let me do me.

A task force of political hacks and socialists.

Unless I'm missing something, it's not telling me anything.  Someone was referring to some statistics that the average weekly deaths are lower as compared to 2019.  A reason is the possibility of lower deaths by auto, etc. due to less driving.  Also, of interest the lower number of cancer and other disease deaths because of Covid.

Also, there's another link posted by NOCL that compares data to an expected amount.  That is like comparing not to the previous year, but to a pre-determined or budgeted amount.  And you know how right budgets are.

To confuse the issue, I googled and found this article:

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/10/covid_problems_cdcs_method_of_estimating_expected_deaths_and_excess_deaths_is_misleading.html

Please don't flame me out.

yes that will get you articles on both side of the issue read them all and then decide which side is more credible.

If I lived with someone who was vulnerable, I would not go on a cruise.  Again it's called personal responsibility 😀

Except many many people are not practicing that.  Look at the 250,000 peo-lie who went to the motorcycle rally in Sturgess.  People who go to bars and have a few start forgetting personal responsibility.   We have seat belt laws for a reason because lots of people did not take personal responsibility.

So you're saying the "new" task force will be able to make everything better?

The problem with that logic is that we seem to have selective enforcement.  For example, it's okay for tens of thousands of protesters to march on the freeway, but God forbid if I want to go on a cruise.  In the end, it's the personal responsibility of all of us to protect the vulnerable people around us.  It's not going to be perfect, but life is not perfect.

it’s not ok for them to block the freeway either.

I am a little bit ambivalent as The immature side of me sort of want natural consequences to kick in and watch a lot of people die from their stupidity.

The problem is that the stupid carry it to other people. There was a wedding of 66 people in Maine, there ended up being almost 200 cases as a direct result, including many at a nursing home and at the jail. None of those who died had been at the wedding. The pastor who officiated at the wedding said afterwards "faith over fear".

Yup, it's the grand debate that the whole nation is having right now.  What is the proper role of government?  How much do we depend on the government to solve our problems?  Clearly we are not going to solve these problems on Cruise Critic.  Personally I am tired of the political hyperbole and I just want to drink a Corona on a cruise ship and find the closest cabin to the buffet.  Can somebody help me with that? 😀
