This just crossed my FB feed.  Carnival’s preliminary Q4 statement.  Looks like there are four more ships to sell, already sold 15.  Also new builds are delayed to 2022 except for one not named.

It will be interesting to see the cash flow statement once the 2020 financials are released.

In a July 31, 2020 filing Carnival Corp had $7.9 billion in cash/cach equiv.  Their burn rate at the time was $650M per month.   Essentially one year of cash reserves to July 31/21.

Carnival will need to start raising more cash over then next three or four months and cut their expenses if they have not raised any additional cash since that filing.

The say their burn rate is now $500 million per month but expect it to increase to $600 million.  Over $9 billion in cash and $2.2 million in customer deposits.  The CFO said they have enough cash to survive 2021 without revenue.

The longer this pause goes on, the more difficult it will be for the cruise industry. The railroads, airlines and hotels and resorts are not treated as badly as is the cruise ship industry.

Thank You, Mr. Obvious!!!! 🙄

Just as obvious, hotels and airlines have business and domestic customers.

We expect to spending money with airlines, hotels, etc long before we spend a dime with a cruise line.

There are some very good reasons why cruise ships are treated in a different manner from airlines, hotels, and railroads.  I certainly do not have a problem with that.   I am thankful for it if only because the health risks are so much larger.
