RCL is so sneaky on cancelling their 2021 cruises

Recommended Posts

Princess has just announced cancelling all U.K round trip from Southampton until mid Sept 2021. NCL and Princess have also cancelled all of their 2021 Alaska cruises. That will give their customers some time to react on their flight arrangements and decide what to do with their booking before the final payment.

However, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity choose to keep on delaying and saying working with authorities to get their Alaska and Europe cruises running like normal. I don't know how many of the port of calls will welcome non vaccinated passengers.

Either, they have special way to get vaccines to all their customers including children, or they want their ship 20% filled, or here is my theory,

to get your final payment, force you to take their 100% FCC and they deep pocket your hard earned money, then, when you check next year itineraries, they are all 30% - 50% more than this year cruise (this price is also non refundable deposit) and you have no choice but to accept and pay if you picked the FCC option.

Don't get me wrong, I like their Cruises but is it how they should run their company and treat their customers during this hard time?

Don't say they have financial hardship, they made so much money from so many stocks offers and they probably make more money from the stocks market than servicing us.

They don't announce anything about their Alaska cruises options unless you go to their website and said all the Alaska cruises are on hold. Thanks for the information for the people who needs them.

Unfortunately, my booking is for Europe cruise. My finally payment is coming up and I am not sure what should I do. It is a 14 days cruise and I don't want to fetch out so much money to have more options. I hope they will at least announce something 90 days before so we know what to do.

Do you know that if RCL cancels your cruise you can get a full refund back to your credit card, you do Not have to take a FCC?      Did you see that all the cancelled cruises in the last couple of months also give you the option to do a lift and shift?    the offer they gave those booked on Odyssey this week stated they could do a L&S to any Cruise just as long as it was similar amount of nights (1 night +/-).

I won't even go into addressing your comments about stock market, etc.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

So just because Princess has cancelled some itineraries and 6 hours later Royal hasn't done the same you are upset?

That is what I am waiting for my cruise. More options instead of cancelling or change my booking to next year which is much more expensive because my cruise is not cancelled. I just don't want to pay my full amount just to get the lift and shift option that I may not have.

They still did not cancel their may cruise which others are planning or readjusting their summer cruises. If they extend their final payment day, I would not complain.

where and when is your cruise suppose to sail?

RCL pretty much has the same pattern for the last year, with a few exceptions, cancellations are being done after 90 day payment.

I have had 12 or 13 cruises cancelled since last March.   as someone else said the other day, I wouldn't have been sailing on all of them I just keep trying to get on a ship.

May cancellations will happen later this month.   I'm sad to say as a couple months ago I really felt confident my May 23rd cruise would sail.

Baltic from Southampton in July. I have 3 rooms book. That is why I don't want to pay them all in full.

I know all that. The problem is the final payment day is coming up in April and I have 3 rooms 14 days Baltic cruise booked with celebrity in July. I really hope they announced something this week or before my final payment day for my July cruise. It is a heavy price to pay them in full to get more options.

Posting a complaint about celebrity on the rcl board wouldn't do much. Have you posted to the celebrity boards? Maybe leave out the word sneaky and more might respond differently.

Royal Caribbean and Celebrity are the same company. I just don't like the way they run the company. They are a great cruise line, they don't need to use this tactic to keep their customers. I don't believe anyone can help here and if I offended anyone. I would like to apologize.

Yes, 3 cabins on a celebrity baltic sailing will be hefty final payment.

My b2b for baltic/norway was cancelled last august.  I'm booked on another baltic sailing for this august and highly doubt all the ports will be open for cruises to happen.

UK announced they will reopen businesses etc by mid/end of June, nothing said about allowing tourists from US or cruising yet.

This pandemic changes every week around the whole world.  The good news is there is a brighter light now than last year.

You are a month +/- till final payment.

A lot of moving pieces...for everyone

You just have to hang in there, instead of complaining about something you cannot control.

My friend & I are waiting to hear what happens to our late September cruise out of Baltimore, that we lifted & shifted from last year.  It was supposed to go to Canada, now maybe it will go to the Bahamas??  We'd be happy with a cruise to nowhere at this point!

Yes I have to agree with you.  I am booked on Anthem from Southampton, UK on 7th May, and my payment is due on the 11th March (next Thursday).  It would be illegal for me to go on this cruise as UK citizens are not allowed to travel abroad until 17th May at the absolute earliest, and still Royal have not cancelled.  At this rate I will have to pay and then claim it back, which I think is wrong when they know full well it cannot go ahead. 🤨

If you'd read some of the threads, even pre-pandemic, you'd realize this is the norm for them.

So cancel before final payment and get over it!  Or, if you're already after final payment, then caveat emptor. The T&Cs are clearly listed on the agreement when you booked.

What exactly are you bitching about?  A company is trying to stay solvent during a pandemic that has left them virtually incapable of generating revenue for a year?  You must be in one of those jobs where you're sitting at home doing nothing and still earning your pay, thinking everyone is making out like a bandit during this pandemic.  Pathetic.

Another way to lower your out of pocket for your final payment due in april is to switch your cabin category to the cheapest available cabin.   You Still have a month and I expect we will hear more about travel in europe sometime this spring, just may not be by the time your final payment is due.

I am glad some people understand my situation because we are on the same or similar ship. It is not a small final payment amount. These Baltic sea cruises are pricey and each cabin is around 10K for 14 nights. I would happy to pay in the normal situation because you are looking forward to enjoy on the cruise. It is just difficult to pay that amount to a cruise that you know for sure it will be cancelled or modified but the cruise line is playing delaying game. Well. I hope they will announce something next week but try to call them to see if you can extend your final payment.

I’ve got a couple of weeks before final payment is due on my Jewel cruise from Copenhagen.  Most of my canceled cruises have been comped by Casino Royale with the outstanding small balance already paid when booked so I haven’t been in this situation with $2000+ due.  I’ve also booked airfare.  I don’t think we’ll sail but if there’s  a very small possibility, I’ll wait.

You say "know for sure it will be cancelled" , so why not just cancel it yourself.

I don't believe they are playing games. If YOU want more options, it seems fair that you should pay final payment to get more options.

It’s a 4 minute video on how stock market actually works. Royal doesn’t work to make money from the stock market as you suggested. Quite the opposite is true, they are expected to sell their service and generate revenue for those that have invested in them. I think this short video explaining how the market works, or any other video, would be truly helpful for you to learn.

stock dilution is trying to get the street money to pay their obligations. Technically, they did make money to pay their missing revenue from the stocks buyer. The market is just filled with risk takers and it is perfect time for them to do it.

glass is half full. why do they have 90 days final payment if almost all Europe countries are behind vaccination schedule? This is not the normal time and why there is still 90 days final payment deadline? that is why princess and NCL made the decisions 2-3 months before. I maybe jump the gun to post this comment and i will wait for another month and hope they will make some announcement before the 90 days deadline.
