Got so carried away at the mention of breaded pork tenderloin I forgot to thank everyone who contributes to this wonderful thread.

 

We have sailed out of Port Canaveral twice on short RCCL cruises and I have taken a few gambling day trips from there also.  It's only a 2 hour drive for us.

Thanks for another Daily Rich.  I love waffles. I get them in the Lido on HAL ships.   It is interesting to se where the HAL Fleet is located these days.  I think the CDC has too much power. Our ships are NOT floating petre dishes.  Just my opinion.  Rich, many thanks to you for keeping this thread going through this long 30 day pause.  Roy thanks for the care list.  To all posters, thanks for your conributions each day.  To the readers of this thread.  Thank you for taking the time to read this Thread.  I know there are many more readers than posters.  God Bless all of you.

My one and only visit to Port Canaveral was my first solo cruise.  It wasn't intended to be solo but my fellow cruisers got stuck in NY with Hurricane Michael.  No pictures (only walked around the terminal area) but two memories.  My stateroom was on a rear veranda on deck seven.  My joy was to sit out there in the shade and watch the boat traffic and sailaways.  Disney of course had it's A Small World, the casino cruise had it happy cocktail vib, and another ship had it's DJ stirring up the crowd.  (don't remember which line.)  The other memory was the captain taking us across to see the landing platform for space x.  Space x was going to launch in a few more days.

By the way, went to Port Canaveral on the same trip as I experienced Sydney Nova Scotia.

I am sorry Cunnorl for your loss. I read yesterday's news this morning. 

 

We had a fun day with friends yesterday. All 4 got pedicures with wine, went to our local pub and ate wings, pizza, salad and the guys had coney dogs. We've been fully vaccinated except one of us had 1 shot and 1 to go.

 

A glitch on ordering the pergola, so it's going to run late. Maybe 10 more days. Other than planting herbs when Claudio installs the planters he's made, I am not going to start another long project. I mean it!

Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  As a child, I remember being paraded to church to attend mass honoring the Feast of the Annunciation; I always liked doing it because it meant the angel announced Mary was going to have a baby on my birthday.  Kid logic.  

 

Love pecan waffles - we stopped somewhere in Pennsylvania a number of years ago when we drove to North Carolina to visit friends, and ordered them for the first time.  We were smitten.  And yes, we did know to pronounce them pecon, not peecan.  My mom made the best breaded pork chops - if there was ever a special occasion when she would ask what we wanted (like the end of our school year with good grades), we would always say we wanted breaded pork chops.  Although I make good ones, they never seemed quite as good as hers.

 

I have some good news - yesterday I was able to get through and book my first Covid jab . . . YAYYYY!!   We also ordered a new fountain for our back yard; the old one had pretty much lived out it's life expectancy, and saw it's last season  for us.  Hopefully by the time it arrives, the glaciers will have receded enough for us to be able to put it out.

 

I like today's meal suggestion and do have a pork loin in the freezer, so will thaw it out and try breading it for dinner tonight.  We picked up more asparagus the other day and will cook that up in the air fryer, so that's what will be on our table this evening.  And wine.

 

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Clinking the wine glasses together tonight to toast all on the celebration list.  Be well, stay safe, wash your hands and wear your mask.

Good Morning Everyone,

            First off , a great big thank you for all your kind words yesterday. Meant a lot to me. This thread is one of  a kind and the main reason I check in to CC every day. With all the negativity and gloom, this is like a ray of sunshine!

         I have been to Port Canaveral. I can see it from where I live. HAL has not ported here in many years but once or twice a year in the fall, there will be a stop on a repositioning from New England/Canada. The port itself is a working port with cargo, tour boats and Coast Guard as well as cruise ships. Carnival, Disney, RCL and Norwegian have a huge presence here. The port has expanded dramatically over the last few years. RCL and Carnival have brand new terminals. The Carnival terminal is for the new Mardi Gras which was delayed due to the pandemic. 

     The Main attraction is the Space Center which is amazing. Many cruisers go on day trips to the theme parks but IMHO,  I think it is too much for 1 day. There are many things to do locally including a great beach both at Jetty Park and Cocoa Beach.

The baby was going to be born on my birthday.  As I got older, I realized it meant I was born on the baby's birthday.  Adult logic.  LOL

Ahh, thanks for clarifying. I was about to wish you a happy birthday and make you another year older.

 

 

Which makes me think of years ago when I worked at a facility that had 2 separate units. Our tradition was that the day supervisor on our side made a birthday cake for the staff member on or near the day, and during lunch or report, “surprised” the staff, and everyone sang and enjoyed cake.  Well, one day that supervisor looked at the bd list, which comprised staff from both units, and was just the initials of staff members. She realized it was CBs birthday that next day. So she quickly circulated word to all staff and changed her evening plans to make the cake. Well, you know where this is going..... The next day, around noon, supervisor calls us all together around the cake and we call in CB. She is stunned, because it’s NOT her BD, but the other CBs. So we all laughed......and the next several times someone brought in a random cake, we would call in CB and again sing happy birthday. 😈She said she was aging way too fast that year. That group was so much fun.

I got busy yesterday and got to the Daily too late to post anything. We were shuttling cars to the shop, purchasing new patio furniture, and making beef barley soup with the accumulated steak and prime rib bones. 

 

The ice left the lake on Tuesday afternoon (March 23rd) - I need to get the canoe out of storage and start cruising!

 

I have had the Penicillin cocktail in HAL bars, I thought it was quite good.

@cunnorlI want to add my sympathies for the loss of your BIL.  Way too young, so very sad.

@ger_77so happy for you that you got an appointment for your first jab!

@StLouisCruisersthank you for posting your photos, love the ship with the cut-out -- wow!  Our DIL works for Disney, and before Covid the whole family was planning on taking a Disney cruise to Alaska with the grandsons last June.  Even with the employee discount it would have been pricey for a 7-day cruise, but we figured it was worth it to be with everyone. I was just thrilled that all the kids wanted to cruise with us.   Then it was one of the 4 cruises we've had cancelled since the start of this. 😞  

 

Pecans is one nut I don't care for -- funny, I'm west coast born and raised, and have always said "pecon".  Yet my in-laws in Savannah all say "peecan".  I think each area of the South may pronounce it differently.  I prefer pecon. 😉  

 

Will pass on the meal, but love waffles especially my own home-made waffles with a recipe I've used since we first got married.  Last Christmas DS sent me a Belgian waffle maker because I'd complimented his. 🙂    I might try the Riesling, but it would have to be more dry than sweet for my tastes.

Since I was a small child, my favourite picture of the Annunciation was a painting by Fra Angelico which I had seen a photo of.  It is in the Convent attached to the Basilica of San Marco in Florence, and in 2008 we visited Florence, and were able to go there.  I was so excited to see it in real life.  No photos allowed in the convent, but there is another painting of the Annunciation in the basilica - but I don't know if it is also by Fra Angelico.

I've had family in Central Florida almost continuously for the past 50 years and have been to the Port Canaveral area frequently as well as sailing from there twice (Carnival Fantasy 1993 and Monarch OTS 2012).  To me there are/were 3 Port Canaverals.  I camped in Jetty park in the 70's and watched cruise ships going out to sea through the inlet.  At that time the terminals were close to shore and in Quonset  huts.  They were smallish but adequate for ships of that era.  They are also fairly accessible to businesses.  By the time I started cruising there were newer terminals far inland.  I find them ok for embarkation/disembarkation but there is nothing to do close to the docks.  In the last few years the Quonset huts have given way for Mega Terminals, first for the Oasis class, and later for Carnival's new Mardi Gras.

 

On port calls I've tended to go to Kennedy (never tire of it) but there have been a few others.  My first cruise on the Grandeur we arrived on a Sunday and I took the shuttle into Cocoa Beach for a ship.  My second time with Grandeur I had booked Kennedy but we were delayed by a lifeboat cable break in the previous port, Charleston, and arrived well into the afternoon.  On that call, we also docked at one of the Quonset huts.  At that time there were just bathrooms and an area for Immigration.  We were close enough that I was able to walk to something I had seen previously, the Exploration tower with a nice lookout level and several levels of exhibits:

In 2016 I was there on a transatlantic on Queen Victoria.  It was supposed to be a single day but we outran the weather and arrived a day earlier.  It was Kennedy Space Center the second day but the day of arrival I took the shuttle into Cocoa Beach and spent most of my time on my cell phone making a reservation on the Alaska Ferry Kennicott to get to Alaska for my Northwest Passage Cruise.  Bookings had just opened the day before.

Good morning, all! Pecans and waffles sounds wonderful, as does breaded pork tenderloin. I love the quote! I visited Port Canaveral with my family as a child, but not on a cruise ship.That was, well, not recently.

Gerry, congratulations on the jab appointment. We’re waiting for the next booking eligibility announcement in BC. DH should be in the next group, if all goes the way it has been. 
Our rain has turned to partly sunny skies, so I’m hoping to catch a bit more fresh air today!

Thank you all for such a positive space to be. I’ve been checking out some of the other CC threads, and there’s some stormy weather in those waters. This is a much nicer harbour!
