Since it's United Nations Public Service Day ..... The tour dropped us off at Rockefeller Center for a little time on our own They were preparing for the Christmas Holiday when we were there 25

kb4683 Posted June 23, 2021 #79 Share Posted June 23, 2021 While we're at it -- ahhhh Pisco Sour 💕 Had my first one in Lima, Peru. It was our first day there after flying 🤬 hours. It was also my "Social Security" birthday 🤭. Since that time, I have never passed up an opportunity to enjoy one when we visit Peru -- exception may be tonight at home 👍 The bartender even showed me how he makes them Table service Yummy 🥂 Of course, the Pisco Sour was followed by this With a special birthday treat compliments of the hotel -- yes it says "Barbara", my first/passport name 😒 Kay

dfish Posted June 23, 2021 #83 Share Posted June 23, 2021 @StLouisCruisers You are probably right about taking on too much. It might not have been if it hadn't taken me all morning to find deck cleaner and water sealer at the store. I went to the one where I always bought it before and they don't carry it anymore. Four stores later I found it. The care is washed. One down. Going out now to do the back deck. It has to have time to dry thoroughly before I can seal it and I want to do that before the next set of rain storms moves in. Thanks to all the well wishes, everyone!
mamaofami Posted June 23, 2021 #84 Share Posted June 23, 2021 (edited) Good afternoon everyone. Happy Birthday Roy and vmax. I have a birthday coming up on Saturday. New York, New York. My home before moving to NJ. I sailed out of NY on Noordam one winter. We left with ice on the deck during muster and then sailed into the Caribbean and back. I also sailed on Eurodam's initial North America voyage. We had an airplane send off where the planes dipped down to say hello and good bye and fireworks near Lady Liberty as they narrated the sites all the way down the river. It was a three day cruise and a wonderful experience. Sam is continuing to have headaches so the plan is to get a new CAT scan to see if the s welling is the same, worse, or better. Yesterday my daughter brought him a keyboard and he loved playing the piano. When he retired he gave piano lessons and he studied at Juilliard in New York when he was young, very young. Everything that could go wrong in the house has, and I’m playing catch up everyday just getting things to work. Saturday will be 2 weeks since my vaccination so I’m home free but will continue to be careful. Sharon in AZ Posted June 23, 2021 #92 Share Posted June 23, 2021 (edited) We were in NYC August 2009 to embark the on the Eurodam for a 10 day New England/Canada Cruise. We went 3 days early and Craig was able to get his Jazz fix: This picture is rather appropriate on Pink Flamingo Day: We did the HOHO and visited many sites including Ground Zero: That's my DM (with the cane) and myself crossing the street on the way to this Italian store: We went to the 9/11 Museum too: Craig with his usual Negroni, I think this was at lunch: After a rest we did a nightime HOHO: Craig went up the Empire State Building (not me!): The next day Craig went out on his own: Now on the ship getting ready for sail away: Edited June 23, 2021 by Sharon in AZ deleted photo 22

dfish Posted June 23, 2021 #95 Share Posted June 23, 2021 @Sharon in AZ What a beautiful picture of you and mom. Not only is my care washed, so is my car. And, the back deck is scrubbed. Taking a break and I might just get the front deck sealed this afternoon! 14
durangoscots Posted June 23, 2021 #96 Share Posted June 23, 2021 I have very few pictures of New York. I went to High School outside of Baltimore and we did regular school trips to UN and other places, I worked in New York when I was just out of High school and then have been in and out over the years by myself and with various family members. The only cruise related visit was to sail on the QE2 for her final world cruise. To really date myself, I used to take the train from Baltimore to New York and usually went on the B and O which dropped you in New Jersey. This gave me a chance to come into New York at night and see that wonderful skyline. Cooler here today - highs in the mid-80's rather than the mid-90's but we are having some dry storms. The eastern slope and to our north there are fires.... we keep fingers crossed. Susan 15

What station would you have used? Roy

Roy B and O ran out of Penn station in Baltimore... and after arrival in New Jersey we were taken by bus to the Port Authority in New York which of course entailed that wonderful ferry ride. I am not sure when they stopped running that route - probably about 1960. My college roommate who was from Nambe Pueblo in New Mexico came home with me one summer around 1960 and we went to New York.... but I don't remember whether we came in for that skyline view or not. She was impressed by New York but a bit overwhelmed. The thing she could not get over on the east coast was size of our rivers..... her comment was "no wonder people from back east snort at the Rio Grande". Have to say that New York in the mid-50's seemed a magical place.
