Ocean Medallion App - Part 3

So, we cruise this Saturday the 27th on the Majestic.

 

I had already accessed the Medallion app a week or so ago. Everything was fine for my wife's booking, but I had to reenter passport, credit card and emergency contact. OK, it was annoying, but I did it and it showed Green Lane.

 

Yesterday, went to access it again, this time I'm blocked out and it won't even allow me to log on. Doesn't accept my booking number. Even got a call from Princess this morning saying I needed to finish my logging on in the app. Did the usual uninstall, reinstall etc. Still a no go. 

 

Since we live so close to San Pedro, it's not bothering me because we can simply show up and get everything fixed at the port. But, this thing is a mess. 

 

Read other posts commenting on someone should be held responsible. My understanding is the new president of the company was the driving force behind the Medallion experience. I kinda doubt we'll hear a mea culpa from him. 

 

I know it's a code glitch somewhere and I wonder if it's an Apple Android thing? My wife is Apple and I'm Android 11 and I do wonder if when I did the last update gremlins got into the app.

Other cruise booking sites have a deck plan, but they are just labeled "Dining Room".  Princess has nothing posted.

Too bad - it struck me as pretty handy.

Nope we are both apple, I'm Green but wife doesn't register at all and we both have our medallions. Go figure...no worries

Yeah, that's why I wonder if it's more of an Android issue. I updated recently Android 11, wondering if the update has caused the issue. 

 

I'm just going to show up and not worry about it. Almost the same thing happened on our October cruise. Got to the port and was told I was Green Lane, but not showing on the app.

It looks like the infamous MC App IT Team is still fixing data right up to the 11th hour and the "promised" clean up that was supposed to be done by now is still going on.  I keep alternating between thinking it is getting better and they are still drowning in issues and treading water to keep afloat. 

 

Generally, it does seem to be doing better these days.  But too many with troubles IMO.

We just got off the Regal yesterday (Nov 19-Nov24th cruise). Because of the variability of the Medallion App, we printed out our travel summary to present if needed when we had boarded. It was not necessary. When we boarded, our medallion was scanned, and we had to show passports, covid test results and vaccination records. We were never asked to present the QR Code on the Medallion App.

 

The Medallion App worked on the cruise to allow us to do things such as make dinner reservations, look at our folio, etc. We did not do any ordering of food to a current location, so I cannot comment on whether that would have been successful. We were not able to choose a disembarkation group through the App. That was not operational. But, it didn't matter as it was done the "old school way" via paper and luggage tags delivered to our stateroom. We were not asked to choose a disembarkation time in advance though. We were given a time that we did not prefer, so we went to the purser desk and switched it to express walk off (which was a breeze -- off the ship at 7:30!).

 

Also, what didn't work, was checking another journey we have booked. Foolish me decided to check a June 2022 cruise we had booked (and entered all the information etc. in the app). While the trip was listed in the App, if you clicked on the date, nothing else worked... no check marks for the travel checklist, white screen when you licked on anything else for that trip. Strangely, another journey for 2023 was intact and perfect on the Medallion App. So, I went to the Ocean Front desk and spoke to the Medallion Specialist. He had no explanation and took down my information to try and investigate and correct the problem. It was not corrected when we disembarked... but I just checked today and now everything is perfect again!

What @billcoposted are not names of dining rooms, they're ports. That's why the confusion.

We've all but give up on trying to make the app work. 

 

I had to call Princess today about a different problem & asked if they could at least put us down to have the medallions mailed and after he a few other questions he said we were all set to go other than selecting arrival & departure times & the Covid question.

I checked the app once off the phone & it now looks completed plus we're in the green lane.

I refuse to even play around with the app for fear that I might undo something & have everything get erased once again.

Maybe by the next cruise I'll be able to do it myself.

We are sailing this Sunday the 28th on the Caribbean Princess and though I didn't have trouble loading our Medallions I kept asking myself ''what's the point of this''.  Maybe once we are on board we will feel differently but we never had any issues with the pre boarding paperwork in the past. Obviously this Medallion thing is somehow a cost cutting measure for Princess, just hope they pass on the savings to us with lower fares and packages. It would be nice to have free internet like just about every hotel in the World has.

I emailed them to see what happens. Like another in this chat, I was also unable to upload a security picture. However the app did properly load the camera for that.

you needn’t worry…looking at the app daily or not touching it … will yield the same results.  Something will go awry regardless before you board.  lol

I delete my CC. I enter it again, still can't add him. I removed that credit card 5 times and reentered it, same problem, save button for adding him, doesn't work. Then after I deleted my credit card, my information is still there. Several tries, nothing. Then I go into all my other bookings Blue lane on all of them, same problem.

Ready to scream and look forward to being on hold with help line today for hours.Late last night I decide to try and delete card again and add a different one. Everything worked, all save buttons worked.

what? All cruises Green Lane. My original card is the one I have used on all my cruises in the past and now the Appl. hates it. I am not going to look at the Appl.again.  Once on board I will change the credit card to the one I prefer.


I had this issue before my October cruise.  No one could fix the problem. Miraculously, it righted itself day of cruise.  Then I tried again for an upcoming cruise next year.  Same thing….over and over and over again with big box credit card that I have paid with many times before.  Nope.  Entered another card and it worked the first time.  
 

I wish they would either fix the app or acknowledge that it is beyond saving.  Why some have more difficulties than others depends on the time of day and tide movement due to phases of the moon.

Someone recently posted pictures of the medallion that was mailed to them.

 

I noticed that the included lanyard no longer says 'Accenture'.

 

I don't personally know if Accenture is in, or out -- but dropping them from the lanyard

will surely increase customer satisfaction.

A wild guess is that most problems are with corrupt data and response times from the server. Not to say the app has not had and still has problems viz inability to load credit card. They would need to go user by user to check and fix corrupted data or data links. Problems that cannot be resolved by fixing bugs in the app. Double whammy !

Just boarded Sky a few hours ago.  App ok so far but I haven't played with it much.  When boarding we scanned our medallions and they wouldn't accept our vax docs (paper, not a card) and had to rescan our passports which looked perfect on the app when I originally did them.  Only added about 10 minutes to the process but still a little annoying.  Used the same vax docs on Celebrity in August.

No sure if I am doing this right but here goes.  We have just book a cruise and tried to down load the Medallion App on my Ipad Pro and also my google phone. The app is now on both devices but keeps saying loading and wont go any further. I can see all the windows but just wont stop say "downloadin". We have only booked the cruise with a depaosit. Do we have to wait until we make the final booking to activate the properly. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED AS A COMPUTER DUMMY.

No, you do not need to wait.  Requires Android 8 and higher.  Requires Apple iOS 13 or higher. 

 

You can call Princess on their regular line and ask for Medallion Class help.  Might have to wait a while, depending on the day and time.  Have you setup a login with Princess?  Login should be the same for Princess.com and MC App.  You can get into your booking on Princess.com with login or Name/Birthdate/Booking Number.  Same with MC App.

The (maybe) good news is...you don't absolutely have to fill in all that info on the app. There are alternatives:

1) call Princess for help or email (these are my least favorite choices)

2) wait for the "new, improved" website that has been promised and do your info there

3) wait 'til you're at the port with a printout of your boarding docs and let the shoreside folks handle it

Be patient and do make sure that your devices have the appropriate versions as mentioned by @Steelers36.

I have just received a response by email from medallion help line, a gist of which I will copy below but detailed as their response was they didn't actually take on board (no pun intended) my original observation that this medallion app needed IOS13 to work and hundreds of people, myself included, have smart-phones that Apple no longer support. I have no way of inputting our personal information at this time but hopefully the website may be resurrected before April.  This is a portion of their response; they must be living in cuckoo land if they think the app has removed friction!!!

"While a relaunch of the website option is in the works , there is not a date set for specifics, as the website option information becomes available we will be announcing to our guests.

The Medallion is there to help maximize your vacation time by removing friction and enhancing personalization. We are eager to help you get OceanReady, and would be happy to assist you directly."

True, but of course the marketing pablum they sent you was about the Medallion itself on board removing friction.  They are good politicians - switch the topic and answer a different question.

I just read in the Princess Circle Mag that the Mastermind behind the Medallion is John Padgett who is now the new President of Princess.  How long before they replace him for screwing up ROYALLY?

It's not at all clear what Padgett's role was in awarding or supervising the Accenture contract. The original announcement on Accenture's website (here) was from 2017, and quotes Michael Jungen, then a Carnival SVP and no longer with the company. The later announcement (here) from 2019 does quote Padgett, but it wasn't at all clear at that time how bad a job Accenture was doing on the app; even now, it does seem like the onboard medallion functionality is working reasonably well. The other thing we don't know is Padgett's position on crippling the personalizer and relying exclusively on the app; the fact that they announced web-based Ocean Ready at about the same time they announced his promotion does mean that he is at least willing to admit that the app is a problem. We sail in 10 days; I'll try and see if I can coax the answers to these questions from any officers (or maybe the Internet Cafe manager) once we're onboard.

Thanks everyone for the advise with installing the Medallion App. Just updated my Ipad Pro (now version 15) but still no joy. I think will take some your advice and wait a while and see if they instail a better version. For the life of me I cant understand why they release these new systems when obviously they are flawed. It certain makes it frustrating and annoying especially for us oldies that do struggle with new technology.
