Good morning. A beautiful day here in Georgetown. Our friends from Prescott @ 6000 ft are not used to our humidity. They look a bit wilted..

 

Thanks Rich for our Daily. Roy I'm happy you completed your 1st day of rehab without a fight breaking out.

 

Yesterday we took our friends downtown Georgetown for lunch. Allen had brisket.  We came home and he was sick for hours. He missed our golf cart parade and of course had no interest in brats and chips afterwards. We had 14 golf carts and we had a preplanned route. Many neighbors thru the various neighborhoods came out with flags and clapping. It was so much fun. I'll post the winner picture. 

 

Last night we enjoyed a beautiful double rainbow spread wide and we could see end to end. A lovely evening. 

 

Today we are hopefully taking Allen to lunch. Our friends want to buy him lunch for his birthday on the 14th. 

 

We stayed in Dublin for 3 nights prior to a Scotland/Ireland bus tour. So much fun listening to bands and visiting pubs. Of course we went to Guinness and also the prison tour. Very sad..

Good Morning. It's a beautiful day here - no indication of the storm that passed through yesterday.

Thanks for the daily. When I think of being a kid again I think about tapping in to the joy of life that kids have and that we sometimes forget as we get older and jadded.

I've been to Dublin on a land trip and loved it. I want to go back sometime and spend more time there.

We have been to Dublin twice, from most of the pictures I am going to post one might think we need to join @POA1's National Institute of Cheer 🤪 

 

The first was on April 21, 2009, during our Transatlantic on Grand Princess (our first Princess cruise).  We took a ho-ho tour then made our way to the Brazen Head pub (Ireland's oldest pub).

 

 

DH learning how to pull the perfect pint of Guinness.  He also got a tee shirt and certificate to commemorate his "graduation"  👍  (For a price, of course.)

Of course, during the day we also toured Guinness and Jameson's

The second time was May 15, 2014, while doing the British Isles cruise on Ruby Princess.  This time we just walked around and did our own mini pub crawl (just 2 pubs this time 😉)

Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  Today is a great day for DH and I to go and sit in the pergola, break out our bubble wands and blow bubbles for a while!   For the last number of years I've kept bubble wands out there, and once in a while, we blow bubbles, watching where the wind currents take them.  It can be quite fascinating, especially when accompanied by a glass of wine or an Aperol Spritz!  LOL  

 

I like blueberries, especially in vanilla yogurt - yum!  I never got into the whole video game thing, but play Bejeweled on FB.  Our DS on the other hand, started with his little Game Boy and worked his way up.  Now he's into the VR realm, which is quite amazing.

 

@JazzyV that looks like quite the storm - hopefully your property was spared the damage!  With those downed power lines right outside your home, please stay inside and stay safe!

 

@mamaofami I'm happy to learn that you're getting help for both you and Sam.

 

@kazu loving your flowers . . . but that buck, wow!  I understand the need for fencing; they're pretty brazen!

 

Another beautiful day on the "frozen tundra",  so instead of today's menu suggestion (although I love Roy's alternate!), I'll make up some hamburger patties for the barbecue.  Burgers and all the fixings, accompanied by a spring mix salad will be what's happening on our dinner table tonight.  And wine.

 

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Special prayers for those who are traveling for them to remain safe,  and to have a great time.  Clinking the glasses together to toast all on the celebration list.   Be safe, stay well, wash your hands, wear your masks and hydrate!

Good Morning All,

 

Looks like we’ll be having another warm, semi-humid day here. It’s actually been pleasant. And the humidity keeps our fire danger low. The hills here are full of dry brush.

 

 I may actually make the meal suggestion. We have some assorted chicken left over from last night and I go grocery shopping today. Love tart blueberries and have them most days. Only played Bedazzled for a few semesters when I was learning to code, as it seemed to comfort my traumatized brain.
 

One day I’d love to get to Ireland. And England. I’ve been perusing Fred.Olsen’s options and they seem to have a wealth of scenic cruising options, with decent sized ships that have proper promenade decks. Just saying….
 

The wine of the day sounds lovely, but out of my budget. I’m still trying to figure out what tannins taste like.

Luce della Vite
This “Super Tuscan” might be hard to find locally, and is a bit expensive. But if you can find it and it is within your budget, all vintages have excellent ratings. I found one US distributor offering the 2014 vintage for $69.88.

Winemaker notes
50% Merlot and 50% Sangiovese from Montalcino, Italy. The wine spends 12 months in a combination of new and neutral barriques and has 5 g/L of residual sugar. The 2017 Luce Della Vite Lucente begins with wonderfully strong and enticing aromas of blackberry and raspberry plus leather, spice and licorice. The wine tastes rich and luscious with tons of delicious ripe, juicy fruit countered by dusty tannins. A fabulous long, dry finish ends the lovefest and your left with lasting fruit notes and wistful memories. In other words, this is a silky smooth wine with wonderful flavors.

On our 2015 cruise on Royal Princess we were accompanied by friends from Myrtle Beach, SC who like to cruise in the hurricane off season only.  So this May cruise was perfect for them.  They took a ship's tour to Powerscourt Estate that day, and the photos they gave me of it look lovely.  DH and I decided to take the train into Dublin.  The Royal Princess was docked out of Dublin in the port of Dun Laoghaire.  We walked a couple of miles to the train station through that charming village and since it was such a beautiful sunny day, we enjoyed our exercise.  The train was clean and inexpensive, plus it took only 17 minutes to get to Dublin versus an hour in a bus or van.  No traffic, too!

 

We saw Trinity College

 

 

 

Dublin is a very busy town.

 

But they have their priorities straight!

 

 

Then we saw Dublin Castle.

 

 

The old and the new

 

Next we walked to St. Patrick's Cathedral which I love to see each visit.  It's so grand.  I paid admission to enter and see the interior.

 

 

Founded in 1191, it was ornate, huge and dark as well as crowded with tourists like me.

 

 

 

On the gate outside the Cathedral

 

Further along on our walk we came to this corner where you have a history museum called Dublinia.

 

The archway on the right connected to the Christ Church Cathedral across the street from Dublinia.

And across the street from it all is this statue called Millennium Child.

 

Time to head back to the train station.

 

You know the saying "a river runs through it"?  Same with Dublin.  It's called the River Liffey.

After our train ride back to Dun Laoghaire, we enjoyed a second walk through that town.

 

 

My goodness, all these photos are only from the 2015 stop in Dublin.  I haven't even looked at 2017 yet.  If there are different places we saw I will add them to another post.  I hope you enjoyed Dublin - we did!

Thank you for the really good pictures of one of my very favorite cities. Dublin, like all of Ireland, is full of charm and fun.

In 2015 on the Prinsendam we were docked right in town and HAL provided us a double decker bus ride to the city core.  

 

Crystal Symphony was parked there too.

 

We saw sailing ships docked on the River Liffey.

 

We were dropped at a park where we saw this unique memorial to "defence forces".

This was simply a government building but I liked its architecture.

 

 

The date was June 6 but it must have felt chilly for some people since they were wearing coats.

We walked by all the Cathedrals again but I won't post photos of them again.  But I guess we went to the shopping and bar area next.

I probably went looking for Molly Malone again but couldn't find where they'd hidden her this trip.  At any rate, we enjoyed some local Irish entertainers on the ship that night.

Good morning from a sunny and wind still central Texas.  I would like to enjoy  the innoncence, fun aprt and freedom of being a kid again, without all the other things that go with it.  I like blueberries, especially in muffins, pancakes and fruit salad.  I've played some video games, including Tetris, but never really got into it as much as the DDs did.  I do still play some games on my tablet.

 

Will pass on the drink and the wine, which is probably nice, but pricey.  The meal sounds nice,.  The quote by McArthur is good.

 

@JazzyV  Vanessa, sorry about the electricity being out and for all the storm damage.  Good that there were no injuries.

@mamaofami  Carol, it looks like you are getting things straigthened out and getting the help you need.  I'm glad you insisted on only vaccinated people coming to the house.

@kazu  Lovely flowers and wow about the deer.  They are brazen.

 

We have been to Dublin a few times all on BHBs beginning in 2004 on the old Noordam.  I'll go through my pictures and see what I can find.

We were on a British Isles cruise that included many ports including Dublin from a Princess 🚢. I recall the Molly Malone statue near the pier and walking around Grafton Street (Temple Bar and Trinity College, etc. in 2011) but wonder if I was with a Cruise Critic group or a DIY ??? Photos somewhere!😜

I enjoy blueberries and had some this morning...hoping they will improve my memory!🤔

Good morning to All!

Dublin is a wonderful place.  We've rented a car there a couple of times for extended driving trips.  The only photo I have of Dublin itself is my mug in a mug -- of Guinness.  Think I'll hold off on posting that one.  🤪

 

Just FYI, the last couple times we've flown from Europe (once from Rome, once from Copenhagen) we found it cost-effective and enjoyable to route through Dublin and take Aer Lingus across the pond.  That gave us the opportunity for the extended land touring throughout Ireland.  Wonderful experience!   🇮🇪

We visited Dublin onboard the Zuiderdam in 2019. Did a bus tour of the countryside, then visited the downtown area prior to an evening diner/show. Our pictures of Dublin are similar to what others have posted, so I'll post a short video of the evening show.

Then went to see the Book of Kells at Trinity College library (since I work in a library, that was a definite must see!)

 

By then we were hungry, so we found Duke's Pub and had Irish Stew with Smithwick's...yum! (and DH had a glass of Guinness for dessert!)

Here's hoping I'm not repeating pictures.  We were there in 2004 on the old Noordam, in 2016 overnight on the Prinsendam and again in 2017 on the Prinsendam.  We have enjoyed Dublin everytime.  On all our visits, we did the Ho-Ho not only to see the city, but as a way to get from place to place.

 

In 2004, we made the pilgramage to Guiness

The Old Jameson's Distillery  We did not do the tour, as they advised waiting until we reached Cobh to go to the main distillery.  But this was a great place to get wifi.

 

The second morning in 2016, we got a taxi to take us to the Kilmainham Gaol which was built in 1796, and was a grim place.  It was decommission in 1924, but housed the leaders of the 1916 Easter Uprising.  Tickets for the goal sell our early.

 

The new part, mainly for the women, was added in 1840

I was in such a rush this morning, I forgot about Dublin.  We haven’t been there but we have certainly been to Ireland.  Love the country and people and we are looking forward to returning next year.  And since I do have some Irish in my blood…

Well the second rehab was not much different from the first.  I did more (on my own) but the only staff interaction while I was on the equipment was taking my blood pressure once on the treadmill and once on the stationary bike. 

 

It's Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and next Wednesday I move to 9:30.

You all have made my day with the pictures and kind comments about Dublin. For me, after visits to lots of national capital cities, it is most intimate and charming of them all. I always love going there. It is a great place to begin or finish any trip to Ireland.
