Nashna Posted September 23, 2021 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2021 Now that non-alcoholic spirts are being offered at many fine establishments, I wonder if Celebriy offers non-alcoholic wine or spirits on their sailings. Has anyone seen non-alcoholic gin and tonics or alcohol free wines onboard Celebrity or any other cruise lines?
Rare DCPIV Posted September 23, 2021 #2 Share Posted September 23, 2021 I did not see any NA spirits on our recent sailing, nor do I recall any mention of them.
canderson Posted September 23, 2021 #3 Share Posted September 23, 2021 Jim of Jim_Iain recently mentioned Fre wine, and they do have one or two NA beers available, but that seems to be the extent of what we hear reported here.
ETHTrader Posted September 23, 2021 #4 Share Posted September 23, 2021 My wife doesn't drink so the bartender at the Sunset Bar made her a non-alcoholic version of a cocktail
Sox Fan Cruiser Posted September 23, 2021 #5 Share Posted September 23, 2021 But they are very good at making a variety of alcohol free drinks beyond just the virgin daiquiri or virgin bloody mary. Just ask. We are trying to reduce our alcohol intake so we drank them throughout the day. Doesn't satisfy an AF wine craving though. 🙂

Rare mom says Posted September 23, 2021 #7 Share Posted September 23, 2021 What exactly is a NA hard liquor like Gin? Besides flavored water?
canderson Posted September 23, 2021 #8 Share Posted September 23, 2021 5 minutes ago, mom says said: What exactly is a NA hard liquor like Gin? Besides flavored water? Due to different molecular characteristics of water and alcohol, it is possible to remove the alcohol from a mixture. The trick is not to lose too many of the volatiles that give the mix its unique flavor in the process. Keep the juniper berries, 86 the alcohol. 1
Rare Lady Arwen Posted September 24, 2021 #9 Share Posted September 24, 2021 On Infinity in 2019, a bartender at the Casino bar made me a drink every evening with a tonic (which I love) base and dashes of this and that with some floating citrus slices. Delicious! I was on meds at the time and couldn’t drink alcohol, but I still craved an evening adult beverage or two. He named it The Infinity lol. He made my cruise so much better and my DH rewarded him appropriately.
miched Posted September 24, 2021 #10 Share Posted September 24, 2021 What is NA wine, grape juice? My MIL worked as a waitress in a higher end restaurant. She would always tell us about how dumb people were during brunch ordering a Virgin Mary that cost at that time $5. She claims they could have got a glass of tomato juice for $1.25 that was basically the same thing. Difference was ordering from the drink menu or food menu. Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅 If you've ever tasted wine, you already know what it does and does NOT have in common with the raw juice from which it is made. Pull out the alcohol from wine, and it's still miles from the original juice. Not my cup of tea, but not grape juice, either. Sans alcohol, a Bloody Mary is quite a way from tomato juice, too. Lea & Perrins doesn't come in a tomato juice can. Neither will you find some of the other preferred ingredients. But I agree, $5 is a bit much. Try Monday "gin" some time. My daughter (who drinks alcohol) liked it so much, she bought another bottle. It's not cheap, but it's very good. Guppy99 Posted September 27, 2021 #15 Share Posted September 27, 2021 Any really good bartender can make a great mocktail. Same on ships. Only the really good ones can do anything beyond pre-bottled NA beer or wine, or virgin strawberry daiquiri, pin colada, or mud slide (my personal favorite though)
Rare Jim_Iain Posted September 28, 2021 #16 Share Posted September 28, 2021 Your topic did inspire some interesting conversation. I asked the Bartender in Retreat and the Sommelier in Luminae and neither had ever heard of them. They both retorted - What's the point. The bartender joked that to make a virgin Martini he would just put an olive in a glass. It interested me enough to Google on it and found some interesting sites. Wonder if you cold bring it with you as it would not be a violation of bringing "Liquor" aboard.
Guppy99 Posted September 28, 2021 #17 Share Posted September 28, 2021 That's an interesting thought. I'm not much of a drinker, because I think most alcohol is really vile tasting. I don't like coffee or tea either. But it seems if its non-alcoholic, you could bring it onboard. Especially if they don't carry the stuff. (Personally, I like rather have a couple edibles...but that still isn't allowed on board.)
Rare DaKahuna Posted September 28, 2021 #18 Share Posted September 28, 2021 I seem to recall ordering a "Shirley Temple" for my kids when they were younger. I agree with what Jim said -- a martini would be hard to turn into a mixed drink but a screwdriver minus vodka is nothing but orange juice.
