mamaofami Posted December 27, 2021 #26 Share Posted December 27, 2021 Good morning everyone. Love the quote today. I really felt sick last night, but am fine this morning. I have to cancel my routine podiatrist appointment until I get a negative test. I was told that if you test positive the CDC will call to do contact tracing. Speaking of zoos, my daughter and grandson went to the San Diego Zoo yesterday. It’s supposed to be a great zoo.. When I was a kid, my father used to take my brother and me to the Bronx Zoo every Saturday morning. It was across the street from a Howard Johnson where we went for lunch. Stay safe everyone, Carol

msmayor Posted December 27, 2021 #28 Share Posted December 27, 2021 Good morning Dailyites - another quiet morning in VA for us. One more full day here and we head home tomorrow. Today we plan to do some planning with my daughter for the nursery and make a shopping list for her and her husband to get paint and supplies. Next trip down in a few weeks, my husband will do the painting. Still hoping the ordered crib makes it reasonably on time...original delivery date was January and now that's been pushed to April (after the baby arrives). Fortunately, Santa () delivered a bassinet that will do the trick for the first few months. Always loved cutting out snowflakes and with snow now starting to show up in the forecast for our area at home, seems perfect timing. Not a fan of fruitcake at all but my husband loves it paired with eggnog. Haven't been to a good zoo in years, but would probably wait until warmer weather to do so. Thinking of all on the care list and hoping better days are ahead. So much refection when we are in the final week of a calendar year, and prayers for a better year ahead.
Rare rafinmd Posted December 27, 2021 #29 Share Posted December 27, 2021 Today's sunrise (or possibly sunset) is from my Millenium trip to the Copper Canyon on the Sierra Madre Express train. AncientWanderer Posted December 27, 2021 #30 Share Posted December 27, 2021 Good morning, All. I haven't seen those snowflake cutouts in years. That would be fun to do with DGD. Need to do! ❄️ DH and I just about always have annual zoo passes here in San Diego -- great way to spend the day, and we like to support their conservation efforts. 🦍 🐒 🦒 I make fruitcake most years -- with no citron or green things. It's a favorite in our family. 🍍 🍒 Not sure I understand the quote. The food and drink sound very nice. I've never been to China -- look forward to photos. Our Rotterdam travelers look to be having a wonderful time. Keep those photos coming, Guys. We need the vicarious kicks! 😊 Also looking forward to Copper's report from Koningsdam. We are supposed to board on January 2, but that is looking unlikely. I'm still recovering from upper respiratory infection and coughs aren't too welcome on ships right now. Some of our other Dailyites will be making their way back home after holiday celebrations. Wishing safe travels for all. @cat shepard, your vegan Santa is hilarious. I took a snap of it to send to my son. He and DDIL are super healthy and will get a kick out of that one. @Vict0riann, happy to hear that you enjoyed your See's. Next year, look for the Victoria toffee as well. It is available only during the holiday season and really is something special. @msmayor, you must be getting so excited about the coming baby. Much joy to come! 👶 @rafinmd, so happy for you that treatments will soon end. You have had a tough run these past couple of years. 2022 here we come -- better times in store! Prayers continue for those on the care list. Praying extra hard for a breakthrough for Jose. Waiting and wondering must be so difficult. The week between Christmas and New Year's always has a kind of low-key feel to it that is nice. Wishing everyone a very pleasant Monday. 30

ger_77 Posted December 27, 2021 #32 Share Posted December 27, 2021 (edited) Good morning, thanks for the Daily! I think today will be a good day to make cut out snowflakes with our grandsons. DH loves fruitcake, I can take it or leave it, but there isn’t any here at our son’s house. It would be great to visit the zoo today if it wasn’t so stupidly cold (-32C). Yesterday was a typical Boxing Day for our family; lots of food, card games (mostly Go Fish), tile rummy, and naps in front of the television. At one point in the afternoon, the whole house was asleep! Because of the cold, it’s looking like today will be a repeat of yesterday’s agenda, with maybe a load or two of laundry thrown in for good measure. We might just warn up the cars and go out for a drive this evening to see the lights in the neighborhood and get some fresh air as well. While I would love some turkey stew, I’ll take a hard pass on the dumplings; they are just globs of dough that I simply can’t swallow. I’ve never liked them, even as a child. As @dfishsaid though, paired with the 2 hour buns it would be great! Tonight our DDIL said we’ll be having home made pizzas - she makes one with mayonnaise and corn (a Japanese favourite) that is absolutely delicious! Everyone will get their own base to add toppings, so creativity abounds. There’s nothing like hot pizza on a cold winter’s night. And wine. Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don’t think they do. Extra prayers that Jacqui is able to be at Jose’s bedside, and for Jose and his medical team. We’ll clink the glasses together tonight to celebrate all on the HAL ships and everyone on the happy list. Stay well, wash your hands, get your boosters, wear your masks, be safe and keep warm! Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂 Gerry Edited December 27, 2021 by ger_77 31
dfish Posted December 27, 2021 #33 Share Posted December 27, 2021 @ger_77 I would probably skip the dumplings part as well. Too many carbs for very little flavor. I might put in some little red potatoes and change out the carrots for another vegetable. 18
marshhawk Posted December 27, 2021 #34 Share Posted December 27, 2021 Good morning all! I love fruitcake, especially sliced thin with cream cheese. I don't ever want to go to China, but I love Americanized Chinese food. Best zoo, the San Diego zoo (was there in the 70's). But just think, if mankind wasn't in such a hurry to destroy earth, animals would be living, eating and breeding where they were born, and zoo's would just be another cruel place for animals instead of the study centers they have become. These days the "zoos" that get my money are animal shelters and wounded wild animal rescue places. Yesterday my neighbor came over and told me that she will be working every day this week, so back to walking the dog at noon every day. I had a bit of a break last week, but i actually enjoy walking her dog. I gave the dog a Christmas present, a fluffy duck squeak toy. Donna told me that the dog will chew it up, as she has done with all other toys. But when she came over yesterday, she told me that the dog, took the fluffy duck to bed with her, and used it as a pillow. ahhh. Off to an early trip to the grocery store, then dog walking, then lunch and then, back to work. Have a great day! 26
marshhawk Posted December 27, 2021 #35 Share Posted December 27, 2021 @dfish those dumplings look delicious. My mom used to make dumplings like that in her beef stew. I didn't much care for beef stew as a kid (love it now) but the dumplings were the best part. I was banned from the kitchen as a kid, so i never learned how to make them, i think its time i gave them a try. Thanks for posting the recipes. 23
AncientWanderer Posted December 27, 2021 #36 Share Posted December 27, 2021 @ger_77 , a belated Happy Birthday to you. Somehow, in all the holiday commotion, I missed that you were a Christmas baby. That is very special indeed. 😍 And… thanks for the reminder about doing personal pizzas. When our kids were young, we used to get those Boboli doughs and let everyone spruce up their own. We haven’t done that in years. The young grandkids will really enjoy that. 👍🏻😊
Rare kazu Posted December 27, 2021 #37 Share Posted December 27, 2021 Thanks for the Daily, Rich posting faithfully from the ship 👍 Nice combination of days. My mother used to make the best fruitcake. Had to be started long before Christmas. I like the quote by Borges - but I tend to like a lot of his quotes 😉 @mamaofamihappy to hear you are feeling better today. My prayers your test is negative 🙏🏻 @marshhawk ahh on the dog’s toy ♥️ How nice of you to help by walking it. @rafinmdglad to hear your treatments will soon be coming to an end. It’s been a long road for you 😔 I am in a grumpy mood today and not in the Christmas spirit at all. DAM COVID. Right now, I am not permitted to visit Jose. All the patients have been tested and will be again on day 3, 5 and 10. Unless things change, I will not be allowed in for 10-14 days 😢 😡 😢 I can take stuff for him and drop it off to be delivered to his floor but that’s it. The nurse told me it is possible things can change but I am not hopeful at all. Of course, I can call and get updates but it’s not the same as being there with him and being able to talk to the specialists in person. Let me try to put some smiles on your faces with a couple of last holiday season memes. Prayers for everyone on the Care list & for those that need them and 🥂 to those on the Celebratory / Shout Out list. Have a good Monday everyone! luvteaching Posted December 27, 2021 #41 Share Posted December 27, 2021 Good morning, Here in the Pacific Northwest we have a winter wonderland. We're about 30 miles south of the Canadian border (for your perspective). We have just over a foot of snow and the outdoor thermometer shows a temperature of 2F at the moment. We are on a well so all the taps are running to keep the water going. Last night we lost power for 30 minutes or so and that meant no heat as well. The road hasn't been plowed so we're going nowhere! @rafinmd Thanks for including DH's return home on the celebration list. He's getting stronger and doing well. Today the infusion nurse is supposed to be coming at 10:45 and bringing supplies so I can give the daily infusions. It will be an interesting drive for her and not one I'd want to attempt. @kazu I feel for you. When DH was hospitalized in September I wasn't allowed in and it was the most frustrating time. Yes, we can get updates but it's not the same as being there. DH has memory issues and he really suffered setbacks that hospitalization. I'm eternally grateful that this one I was allowed in daily and both hospitals realized the benefits. Fortunately no Covid outbreaks in either. I think of you often. Quartzsite Cruiser Posted December 27, 2021 #45 Share Posted December 27, 2021 (edited) Good morning from a very dreary Quartzsite. It's supposed to be cloudy and very windy all day, with wind again tomorrow. While it was warmer yesterday with some sun, DD and DSIL took the Ranger with the cab enclosure out for a run in the desert. Later, DSIL bundled up and took the RZRs out. I' not sure what is on the agenda today. I have always liked visiting zoos, especially since the animals are now in habitats not small cages. It's been years since we visited a zoo. My favorites are the Bronx Zoo, and the San Diego Zoo. It's also been ages since I cut out snowflakes. I used to make fruitcake most years as DH, DF, and DFIL all liked it, even though I've never liked fruitcake. The last time I made any, DH kept forgetting about the one in the refrigerator until it was a dried out "brick". It in and the two in the freezer were tossed several years after they were made. I'm not sure how I feel about the quote. I need to think about it more. Since we don't have leftover turkey, we'll pass on the meal, and we'll pass on the drink and wine. Tonight will either be leftover ham and ribs again, homemade pizza or steaks, if it's not too windy to grill lthem. We've been to China several times, and we enjoyed seeing the sights. We just ignored the government, but did meet some very nice, ordinary people. However, we have not been to today's port.
