Sailing capacity

If you were to guess, would you figure May sailings will be back to full capacity if another variant doesn't appear?

Not without major changes from RCI - the distancing and other protocols currently in place don’t allow for anything near 100%, never mind the 108% that was the average before COVID.

RCI seems optimistic:

If all goes to plan, Royal Caribbean Group ships will be at 100 percent occupancy this summer in the high-yielding Alaska market, according to Josh Carroll, vice president of destination development.

“We’re looking at 2022 to be our biggest and best Alaska season yet,” he said. “We have the most ships deployed to Alaska than we’ve ever had in our history. We are anticipating and seeing very strong demand.”

That strong demand will translate into full ships if conditions allow for it.

“Alaska has been a shining star for us, even throughout the Omicron basis … Alaska has really been a standout in our bookings,” he said, noting international travel restrictions were helping drive domestic tourism.

“A lot of it will come down to some of the protocols with how high the volumes get. The demand is there,” he continued.

The expectation is for 100 percent occupancy, and Carroll said that is where demand is.

“We can absolutely fill our ships. Guests want to be there. There will be some nuances around the different jurisdictions and protocols, that may or may not have an impact on that. But as far as consumer demand goes, we can absolutely and intend to fill the ships.”

Carroll said some cabins would still be held back for health and safety purposes, but with families (three, four and more people) in other staterooms, the ships can reach 100 percent occupancy.

Carroll was speaking at a virtual press conference following the recent announcement on Na-Dena', the new joint venture between Alaska Native corporations Huna Totem Corporation and Doyon, which acquired an 80% stake in Alaska Independent Coach Tours, including Pacific Alaska Tours based in Seattle.

Harmony staff said they were expecting over 1000 kids in

I booked a cruise for the last week of February. I'm afraid that there could be a covid surge after that with families and college students flying and cruising for spring break, then Easter and Passover travel.

Currently on Harmony.  Capacity at 2800 this week. Next week 4800. This is from our cabin steward FWIW.

4800 booked...with cancellations and failed tests, who knows - might approach the 2800 ya have this week.

Winter break for most on the East Coast. Makes sense.

Really? Kid kids or college kids?  Dear God I don’t want to cruise with 1000 drunk 20 something’s!!

They could have been saying 1000 for the month of March?  That would only be ~250/ wk.  Our 'kid' will be on 2 of those weeks, but he is 28, so probably isn't part of the 1000.😀

Anyone know current capacity on Symphony of the Seas. Since they were one of the more recent ships with higher covid cases? Sailing at the end of April, do you think it will be back to normal by then?

At the end of Oct 2021, Odyssey had just under 1400 passengers and over 1500 crew. That was the best cruise ever. And the only ship docked at CocoCay, lines for waterslides were never over 5 people!

While in the grand scheme of things it’s a small number, the dedicated blocked cabins in the COVID era will have a small affect on capacity.

On Anthem, it looks like about 80 cabins (on deck 3) are blocked off and likely be won’t be bookable for quite a while. That’s about 4% of the cabins out of service.
