Best Ocean Medallion holder

We purchased off ebay air tag pet collar holder and slipped in on our watch strap.  Wore it around the house for a few days (as close to cruising as us Kiwi's will get for a while yet 😞 ).

Worked really well and hardly noticed it on the wrist.

This is the amazon equivilent https://www.amazon.com/BABYHH-Silicone-Compatible-Anti-Scratch-Waterproof/dp/B09BNC58WW/ref=sr_1_1?crid=WMUJLTVOFCQ2&keywords=airtag+pet+collar+holder&qid=1644915421&sprefix=airtag+pet%2Caps%2C292&sr=8-1

Does anyone have a picture of the free lanyard these days? I know they changed it away from that ugly big square thing, but I don't think I've seen a picture.

This was the last one I received. Don't know if they are changing them or not.

That's the last thing I want hanging around my neck on a vacation.

It's not very comfortable 🤣 I use either the sports strap they gave for free when they first started the medallion cruises or I use my sports clip I bought for $5 way back when 🤣

I have a question about the medallion itself.  On my last cruise the medallion background color was black (I'm elite).  On my Enchanted cruise next week the medallion background is white with a black logo.  Have they changed the design.

My understanding is that those are for the inaugural period of the cruise ship.

Besides the inaugural medallion color you're libel to see many other designs since they now sell personalized medallions so everyone can be a little different if they choose.

I personally have no desire to subsidize their sales by buying a special medallion.

We'll be taking our first Medallion cruise in July.  Do you need to 'tap' the medallion to anything; for example: in the gift shop or getting on or off the ship or in the casino?. I understand that for most things just being close activates the medallion (like opening your stateroom door)..I was considering the necklace but it would be awkward if you need to tap it.  Thanks

That plastic case has been omitted. Its now just the medallion in a very small holder which it can easily snap out of if necessary to fit in other holders. Mine never fell out on either voyage.

My experience was you needed to tap the medallion on a reader when returning to the ship after being ashore.  Sometimes, it was necessary to tap it to readers at a bar.  Once or twice, I had to do it to enter my stateroom, but most times the door was opened by mere proximity to the door.

Not sure about the casino, but we did have to almost tap it when getting off and on the ship. You have to bring it right up to their reader until the circle is green obviously for more security. Elsewhere, they are able to see who you are from a distance,

You will need to tap the Medallion to get on and off the ship, casino, shops. You may also be asked to tap the Medallion by servers in various lounges.

Just wondering what most people find easiest and best way to carry them around. I was always used to just having my cruise card in my wallet. And then of course when we get off at a port what is best way you have found to keep your medallion safe.

As you can readily see, there are many different options and many different preferences, so there really is no "best."  I preferred the rubber Amazon clips as they offered the opportunity to clip it where ever I wanted or I could carry it in my pocket to keep it a little more secure.  The clip on them was strong enough, that nobody is going to lift it off your person without you noticing.

OK so I am a little stingy, but why is the thingy that goes on a watch strap so expensive compared to the other options? Also isn't it bulky? Would the Pet Collar holder fit on a watch strap?

The separate watch strap looks good, but then you would have two if you also wore a watch.

Don't see the benefit of the clip versus just keeping Medallion in pocket.

Women's clothing doesn't always have a pocket.

Besides that how could they display their elite statues?😉

I don't know why the watch strap holder is so much more expensive than the other amazon options and it works only if you have a somewhat narrow (less than 3/4") strap.  But I have one and it does work very well, and I like it because I don't need a separate bracelet or strap in addition to my watch.  It slips right on my fitbit strap and I barely notice it's there.

I think the pet collar holder would fit on a wider watch strap, but it looks a lot larger than the little round holder, which is barely bigger than the medallion itself.

If you leave the medallion in your pocket, it blocks the nfc signal and it won't show up on their tablet when you order a drink or go to specialty restaurant. You'll either have to take your medallion out or give them your room number. It's much easier to walk around with medallion not in your pocket.

Also any apple airtag accessory will fit your medallion. My only recommendation is that the accessory does not cover your name as shore security will need to see it with your ID when you enter the port area.

Similarly, without pockets, I asked DW where she would use the clip and she said she could only think of clipping it on her Bra. Conjures up some images of checking on and off the ship 🙂

Which is why I like the reel

I don’t have pockets on most of my clothes so for our first Medallion cruise in January I bought a new very small purse that was actually large enough to hold my phone, my passport and other required documentation, a mask, a couple of credit cards, my car/house keys and the medallion.  Most of that stuff went into the safe.  I clipped my medallion to the side of the purse.

Onboard I discovered that I really needed a retractable clip so that is what I’ll be attaching on our next cruise in 3 weeks.
