My visual migraines do turn into a headache, if I don't nip them in the bud. Someone recommended this book to me, Heal Your Headache, by David Buchholz, and it changed my life as far as understanding and controlling the situation. Don't be put off by the tabloid style of cover. It's a very helpful book. I used to work for Glaxo a large pharma company that merged with Smith Kline. We developed the first easy to use drug for migraine, Imitrex. My sales district was all over MD and DE. Dr. Buchholz was one of the doctors we called on and used for a speaker. I think he was located in Lutherville, MD unless he has retired. I would never be able to drink many red wines if it wasn't for Imitrex. I never know which one will cause it but within 4 hours I know that it causes one. The main problems with migraine is learning your triggers (fatigue, low blood sugar, alcohol, caffeine, MSG and wine to name a few) and not take too many headache relievers because they can cause rebound headache. That book offers a lot of practical tips to deal with migraine from a name from long ago past. 15

I have never known so many people who are ill. DS has it, DD and whole family just getting over it, neighbours have it, argh. I think many people don’t realize they have it, and then it spreads so easily. Our neighbour thought it was a summer cold and was out walking her dog, argh! Our son was exposed because someone thought it was allergies. People need to isolate if they have any symptoms. I guess that’s why its called stealth Omicron. Yep. So many are treating the home tests as a free pass to roam if they have symptoms and get a negative test. The body’s production of antigen can be delayed in the vaccinated. So serial testing is recommended.

Still having stuffy nose today so I have moved my doctor's appointment which was scheduled for tomorrow out a few weeks. Dr.'s office was very appreciative. Still testing negative. And, I am very prone to nasty spring head colds.... but I always self isolated for those too - no one would want to be around me. But the food porn you guys are posting is starting to look very appealing. Susan

And the thing I like about Dr. Buchholz's book is that he explains how triggers are cumulative...that maybe you'll do okay with that three oz of wine, but if you add the chocolate dessert, too, you might get into trouble. I've done very well managing my migraine, now that I know what's going on. In the early days, a neurologist prescribed a calcium channel blocker, and things improved, but I was in my early 40s and didn't want to be on that forever, so did more research. I remember tasting a spoonful of port wine to see if it was good for the recipe I was cooking and within three minutes seeing wavy lines. You learn as you go along. 15

My eye shot went well this AM, so all is well. Today is my sons birthday. He is 39 today. Hard to believe! We are going to lunch tomorrow. DH is making him waffles and bacon for dinner. Not sure where that combo came from, but it was his request! I will eat the cake. Manatees are wonderful peaceful creatures. I love watching them. It really makes me angry when I see the propeller scars on their back from boaters. Never been to Gilbralter. Thanks for the great photos. My bucket list keeps growing Stay safe and enjoy today Happy birthday to your son. JIM.
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted March 31, 2022 #67 Share Posted March 31, 2022 Good afternoon from San Francisco. It's beginning to clear, and the sun is peeking out of the clouds. Today, we decided to have a quiet sea day, since we saw most of the major sites on our Ho-Ho tour yesterday. We'd seen many of the highlights years ago when we spent several days in the area on business. BTW, we found another reason to wear our masks besides the safety reason. They kept our faces warm when we were in the open top of the bus, especially when we went across the Golden Gate Bridge twice. 😷 Since we visited Manatee Springs State Park in Florida with the DDs many, many years ago, I have followed what is happening with these gentle giants. The reports of them being wounded by boat propellers are sickening. I like clams, but I don't think I had them on the half shell. Like most of us, I wanted the 64 count box of crayons, but I think the largest I had was the 48 count box. I agree, the Lincoln quote is only partly true. There are times when life just overwhelms you to the point that all you can do is muddle through until things get better. I like tamales, but I don't think we've had chicken tamales. Most are made with beef or pork. The homemade ones we bought in Quartzsite had a stuffed green olive in them, which we'd never seen in Texas. The best tamales I ever had came from a place just outside Las Cruces, NM. They were filled with peppers (probably jalapeños) and cheese. Well pass on the drink and wine. The wine sounds nice, but is a bit pricey. We have been to Gibraltar several times, and I'll look for some different pictures. The first time was in 2002 on Noordam III, and we took the ship tour to the top of the rock to avoid the long lines at the cable car. That didn’t work out quiet as planned, but we enjoyed the tour. @kazu Jacqui, add me to the list who know you have accomplished a lot, and I realize there is still much more to deal with. Hope your drive to and from the hospital was uneventful. You have good neighbors who are kind enough to warn you about possible Covid cases. As always, take time for yourself. BTW, your meme reminded me of a bottle of wine we had in the MDR. The picture on the label was a corkscrew like the one in the meme, but the bottle had a screwtop.🍷 @smitty34877 Terry, I'm sorry your neighbor had to close his restaurant because so many staff had break through cases. I wish more people would think about others and wear their masks. @mamaofami Carol, I very happy for you and Sam that Kate is working out so well. Before you know it, Sam may be a expert at billiards. @ger_77 Gerry, very happy your DH got a good report yesterday. I hope the sleep lab can help solve the low blood oxygen levels. The birthday party sounds lovely. @Lady Hudson Glad you are enjoying your cruise. That is good news your DSIL is in a well managed rehab facility. @cunnorl HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your DS. @JazzyV Vanessa, I know your glad the alley paviing is finished. I think rain doesn't interfere with paving in moat cases. @durangoscots Susan, I glad you're still testing negative. @0106 We've been fortunate to see the Northern Lights, but we were in North Pole, Alaska. If you want to see them from a ship, you'd have to be sailing in northern waters in early spring or very late summer. When most cruise ships are sailing in the far north, the sun is up almost 24 hours, so the lights aren't visible. @kplady Best wishes for a successful surgery tomorrow and for a quick recovery. Faint and very hard to photograph with a point and shoot camera but you can see swirls of green in my photos. I also saw the lights in August 2018 on Seabourn Quest around Akpatok Island in Nunavut, Canada. 14
