what changes overnight

I do not know if anyone can answer this but I would love to hear your thoughts/opinions. What changes overnight from May, June & July cruises, with the changes of ports and times in port and the omission of the inside passage and then the August and September cruises are the original ports, times (with the exception of leaving Seattle at 3pm instead of 4pm) and still includes the inside passage?  My son thinks they are waiting until after final payment (due at the end of this month) to announce the changes for August and September. I am the eternal optomist and I am hoping they are simply confident they will have the propulsion issues fixed by then. ☺️.What are your thoughts? As for me, I am going to have a wonderful time no matter what they do😁

I think your son is smarter than you think, the problems are NOT going to correct themselves.

I really do not understand your question. The second sentence is very long and. confusing.

I am sorry I do not know how to explain it any better.

she wants to know why Princess can't go ahead and announce the changes for August and September NOW, so she can determine, BEFORE FINAL PAYMENT, if she wants to make final payment for those dates.

the OVERNIGHT was a bad choice of phrasing - it would have been better worded to what Princess is doing between now and when her final payment is due, so those changes can be avoided, and her cruise will be as currently shown.

thank you for clarifying what I was trying to say.. I was trying to be clear and obviously I wasn't. Regardless if Princess makes any changes we will still be going. Again thank you.

Without inside knowledge there is no good way for most of us here to know whether the issues you mention (I am thinking you mean on Crown) will resolve before your sailing. It very much will depend on what is required to repair the issue and availability of materials and the technical expertise to make repair. It is very possible the same issue will remain in August and September.

Since you are outside of final payment you could consider changing your voyage to a different Princess ship doing the inside passage.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I should have clarified I was speaking regarding the Crown. We are going to stay on the Crown no matter what happens with the ports.

AND.. it would have helped if the topic title included the CROWN as I believe this has to do with the propulsion issue(s) on that ship which has altered travel times, port times, and ports to be skipped.

Yes, thank you I should have done so.

I would switch ships. I hate to say it. If it was your 5th Alaska cruise, then not a big deal but if this is your first - I wouldn't do it. My first Alaska cruise was very disappointing and it took me probably 10 years to get my Mom to go back to Alaska. For some - it is a once in a life time cruise.

Thank you for your reply. This is our second cruise to Alaska.  We booked this cruise because of Glacier Bay. So we are going to stick with it . I am sorry your first experience was disappointing.

Actually if you go to the Princess booking page and select Alaska and the Ruby for example you will see that the schedule has changed for the rest of the season. Prince Rupert instead of Victoria. Sitka or Icy Straits instead of Skagway and so on.

I suspect the Crown will have the same or similar changes.

It could be due to operational issues with the ports. It could be changes due to changes in migratory sea mammal patterns.

It would be nice if Princess informed the public why they are making the port changes.

Posters are suggesting Jumping Ships. As much as I would also make that suggestion, this late in the game will cost more.

Of course, the right thing to do would have been for Princess to offer move over cruises without additional costs.

Thank you for your reply. I will do as you suggested. Yes, it would be nice if Princess would be more informative. Using scheduled maintance is not believable.

Thank you for your reply. We are not going to change. We are committed to these dates due to work schedules. We chose this cruise after looking at both NCL and Princess for these dates.

Actually with regard to the Crown it is believable. There is a thread where this is discussed by a couple of marine engineers.

Times are unpredictable. Be flexible. Cruise contract- they have right to make changes at any time.

We just had an amazing 4 day cruise on the Discovery Princess. Vancouver- Ketchikan- Seattle.  I would rather sail on a new ship.

So you would rather be on a new ship proving it is fully functional. 😉 I would rather be on an older ship that has proven it is sea worthy.

The Crown's propulsion problems are on-going, every week requiring maintenance.  I would like to think that Princess is putting the band-aid on the problem ONLY until the parts can be secured to fix it permanently, but maybe they don't have the money for the repairs...or are planning on selling...could be any number of reasons that we are not aware.

We are on the Discovery sailing August 14th, I received a casino offer that was too good to pass up for the Crown August 27th.  Yep I booked it (solo) knowing full well the issues that ship is having and will be onboard unless Princess decides to cancel it.

We were on the Majestic from San Pedro to Vancouver April 30th to May 7th and only left the ship in San Francisco,  hubby has some knee issues so we were quite happy to stay on the ship if there is anything I really want to see or do I'll have my chance on the Discovery.  Plus I get 2 credits 😀 so just need one more solo cruise and I will be elite in December for our Hawaii trip.

Enjoy your cruise!!!

And wouldn't that be a refreshing idea.  Instead, they treat us like mushrooms - keep us in the dark and feed us .... well you know the rest.
