Good morning, Dailyites, and thank you to Rich, Roy and all who post and happy Memorial Day to the Americans on board!.  That meal really sounds like a blend of nationalities.  The best of all possible worlds?  Pat and I both have high blood pressure and are researching the DASH diet.  I think it probably would be a good thing if we go vegetarian a couple of days a week.

I have/had 5 cousins I know of who have MS, all  in varying degrees; one has refused all medications and is now in a wheelchair, others are all on different meds.  Autoimmune diseases are the pits, and each one seems to respond differently to the available drugs.

Happy birthday, Gary, @GTVCRUISER! Pat got an emailed coupon for $20 at our favourite restaurant in Bellingham, Anthony's, and we will definitely be celebrating his birthday there tomorrow.

Kona was a stop on our French Polynesia cruise on Westie in 2016.  Jacqui, @kazu, organized a terrific tour in a van for about 8 of us.  The scenery was amazing.  I hope to return!

I visited Kona in 1992 on a trip to Hawaii. I used to shoot slides back then, but scanned some into the PC. I was at the Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park.

This  ‘place of refuge’  was a safe haven for those that broke the Kapu laws, which in old Hawaii were punishable by death. If you reached the Puʻuhonua, you would be pardoned by Kahuna and given a second chance at life.

Sounds similar to the cities of refuge in Exodus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, and 1 Chronicles.

Hello everyone, Wishing all a safe and grateful Memorial Day.

Today, I need to focus on the October cruise.  Of course this is not work but pure joy!  I have been most inattentive to our active roll call, and need to shape up!  @Dismomx5, are you considering Nieuw Amsterdam Panama Canal Ft Lauderdale - San Diego next April?  If so, there’s a Dailyite aboard.  😉

Cheers for all who are celebrating; heartfelt concern for those who are troubled.

Good morning, all! Happy Memorial Day to our Dailyites in the US. The drink of the day is worth remembering - I have lots of tonic but I’m out of gin, so light aged rum would be a good alternative. I’m not sure about the wine. The descriptions ‘non woody’ and ‘aged six month in oak’ do not pair well.🤔

Ive been to the Hilo side of Kona, but not to the port of Kona itself.

@HAL4NOW giving blood is a wonderful way to honour the fallen. I need to remember that when our Remembrance Day comes.

@cunnorl what a frightening experience with your DD’ fall. Thank goodness she is OK!

@GTVCRUISER Happy Birthday! Not everyone gives the whole country a day off on their birthday. That’s very generous of you!😉

@smitty34877 that’s wonderful that your neighbours made sure Tana was carried up. She needs something positive!

@ger_77 my mother used to quote a short rhyme ‘If you must write in the dust, please don’t date it.’ Stay safe and dry in the coming weather.

@Quartzsite Cruiser also take care in the coming weather!

Today is an actual day with no commitments, so I can give the garden a bit of attention. The long cold weather has finally broken, and my rose bushes are just loaded with buds. When my DS is here two weekends from now it should be loaded with flowers!

Happy Monday, especially for those aboard a BHB and not at work!

Good morning from an cloudy and windy central Texas.  It is not supposed to be as hot today, but we'll see.  Last night's pulled pork turned out very well.

Today will honor all those who served and those who died fighting for our country.  Since, I don't have any flowers, I won't be watering today, and I'm not very creative.  My mother had MS when there were no drugs to help with the symptoms.

An interesting quote today.  Even with chicken instead of tofu, I think we'll pas on the meal and the wine.  DH might like the drink.

We have been to Kona three times on BHBs and once pre-digital on the old Star Princess.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, glad you are enjoying your cruise.

@smitty34877  That is great news that Tana could join the family on the patio..  You have great neighbors who are willing to help move her and all her equipment.

@cunnorl  Charlene, what a scary moment.  I'm glad your DD was not hurt.

@marshhawk  How horrible for your ex-MIL.  For 16 years with the help of a wonderful lady, my father took care of my mothers after her diagnosis of MS.

@GTVCRUISER  Gary, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

@lindaler  Linda, I'm glad your son found a quicker, less expensive way for you to get back to your cabin.  Enjoy your trip with your TT back across the country..

My pictures below are from our three BHB stops in Kona,  We were there in 2014 on Veendam, and in 2017 and 2018 on Westerdam.  We rented cars those days and drove north to Kapaau.  I have a few pictures of the area near the tender dock that were taken in 2017.

Good morning all!

We salute our fallen heroes today and every day.  No need to water a flower today, we've had days and days of rain recently 😉  I wish I was more creative.  Both DH and I have had MS touch our families.  A cousin of mine had it in the 50's -- sadly he also had out of control Diabetes and passed away at the tender age of 32.  Happily so much has changed since then to treat both diseases.  I also have a niece who has it, she is doing well.  DH's sister had it, sadly she passed a few years ago but from cancer.

We've been to Kona a few times, thank you to Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser, @Overhead Fred, @Vict0riann, Vanessa @JazzyVand @bennybearfor the great photos.

I think I would like the meal but with chicken and would tone down the spice a little.  Tonight will be stuffed peppers though.  The drink and wine both sound good.

@cunnorlCharlene what a scary experience!  Thank goodness your DD wasn't hurt.

@GTVCRUISERGary Happy Birthday!!

@rafinmdRoy I noticed that my niece who needs a kidney transplant has fallen off the rotation list -- thank you for keeping her on it for so long.  I was thinking of telling you to take her off, since it could be a very, very long wait for her -- meanwhile she goes to dialysis several times/week.  Thank you for all you do, we appreciate it!

Good morning to all.

Today we remember our fallen heroes.  We value our freedom and all they sacrificed to keep our great nation free.  I watched the Memorial Day Concert from the Capitol last night and it was very moving.  God bless all those who served and the families of those who make the ultimate sacrifice.

It is sunny here in Bluffton this morning, however we expect rain later today. Guess we will not be using the barbecue this afternoon.

Thank you Rich and Roy for the lists.

@GTVCRUISER Happy Birthday.

@dfish Thanks for the recipes but think I will pass.  Not a big fan of Tofu.

@Quartzsite Cruiserthanks for the great photos.

And thank you to everyone for your contributions to this thread.

I like flowers and try to remember to water them.  i wish I were more creative.

I had a friend who had MS.  Somehow I lost track of her after I stopped working.  She worked for Social Security in Baltimore and I in New York.  After I retired I we seemed not to keep in touch.  I wish I knew how she is.  I will remember to pray for her today.

I like the quote.

My offer for the WHEELCHAIR IN A BAG is still available.  (See post #50 for the Daily for Sunday May 29). So far no takers.  If I don’t hear from anyone by the end of the week, I will seek other means to donate it.  As I said it is in perfect condition and is great and lightweight (20 lbs) is you need one to take a trip by car, boat or plane.  Or just to go shopping, etc.

I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day.  Stay safe, drive carefully, have fun.

God bless,

Terri

She should be on the rotation.  One goof I made when I left for my cruise is I had put my master copy of the list on a thumb drive (It's on a different laptop) but somehow left the thumb drive home.  She was probably on an off rotation day when I left home and then missed.  I think she should remain on the rotation as long as necessary.

Thank you for your suggestion.  However, I put this out to this group because I feel very comfortable here.  I do not want to put it out to a group of people with whom I am not familiar and may not be able to trust.  Cruise Critic is just too big for me to do that.

No one here has taken me up on the offer.

I hope you understand my reasoning.

Memorial Day Weekend: Why the Holiday Is Always on a Monday | Time

The real meaning of Memorial Day -- honoring our fallen military heroes' solemn sacrifice

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
        In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
        In Flanders fields.

Question for Canadian Dailyites.  I know Victoria Day was last week but have a feeling it is not the same as our Memorial Day.  When do you honour your war dead.  I think in the UK it's in November with poppies always sold on QM2.   Same for you?

From Wikipedia

Victoria Day / Fete de la Reineis a federal Canadian public holiday celebrated on the last Monday preceding May 25. Initially in honor of Queen Victoria's birthday, it has since been celebrated as the official birthday of Canada's s sovereign. It is informally considered to be the beginning of the summer season in Canada.  The latter is similar to Memorial Day being the unofficial beginning of summer in the States
