zitsky Posted May 31, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2022 I'm sure a lot of people leave phones in the cabin safe. But if you want to hang out at the pool or in a lounge, do you have to constantly worry about someone stealing your ebook reader or something else? I would like to sit by the pool reading a tablet but I don't want my partner to have to sit there watching it while I go in the pool. I'd like him to enjoy the pool too! Rare 1025cruise Posted May 31, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2022 I've not had that worry. Just make sure it's out of plain view (under a towel or something).
Dancing Shoes Posted May 31, 2022 #3 Share Posted May 31, 2022 That would be terrible for someone to steal another person's tablet. Geeze. If you can afford to cruise you can afford a darn tablet. Take the minimum to the pool.

More likely that you will forget it than it will be stolen. I have seen left items. Also with a phone or tablet if they steal mine they are going to have a brick as they are biometric protected. Arizona Wildcat Posted May 31, 2022 #9 Share Posted May 31, 2022 Left my phone on board. Went to customer service a bit later. They had some dozen phones and tablets. Leaving in open sight? I would ask would you leave $500 cash on a lounge chair at the pool. That is what you can get for a locked iPhone.
Denny01 Posted May 31, 2022 #10 Share Posted May 31, 2022 I’ve not heard many, any really, of this type of theft mentioned by fellow cruisers or seen any on this forum. So yeah, I’d take the precaution of leaving something under a towel, I guess, but my wife does leave a bag next to our chairs when we step over to the pool, or up to get a drink. And I don’t leave my phone/tablet/ipad/etc in the safe. I leave it in my SR next to the bed or on the desk. And yes, I remember a thread on leaving items on in our SR and someone worried, not about the staff but of people walking by and then stepping in when the steward had the room open and not in it……not only a very low chance of that occurring, but again, no real mention by others of this actually happening…just more speculation. …...much more of forgetting it, or the classic ‘chair hog’ getting their stuff removed. I once dropped a pocket watch I’d bought ashore and as I stood in line at the desk, a staff member walked up to turn it in and I gave a quick and appreciative shout….and tip. marieps Posted May 31, 2022 #11 Share Posted May 31, 2022 I once left an IPhone on an elliptical machine in the gym. I returned and it was gone. I gave security a time window, and via security video they tracked the passenger who took it all the way to his cabin, then flagged his seapass card. When he tried to get off in the next port, lights went off and he was confronted, and told he'd not be allowed to go anywhere until he produced the phone. I had it back soon after. Hats off to ship security.

Rare DCPIV Posted May 31, 2022 #13 Share Posted May 31, 2022 @marieps brings up a mighty fine point. Considering how so many of today's ships have security almost on the level of casinos, I'm even less concerned than I had been about leaving a device behind while hopping in the pool or something like that (and all we've ever done is put it in a bag or under a towel).

Two weeks ago on our cruise, I had a backpack and carried it everywhere, even left it on my chair a few times when I grabbed a bite. It was always there when I came back. Had phone and wife's tablet in it. Edited May 31, 2022 by klfhngr
mnocket Posted May 31, 2022 #16 Share Posted May 31, 2022 I have often left my e-reader on my pool lounge/table while I went for a dip. Never worried about it and never had a problem. Life's too short to be overly concerned about things that can be easily replaced.

LJJQ Posted May 31, 2022 #18 Share Posted May 31, 2022 I have a aquavault that have used to secure my iPhone initially at the beach & pools at home! It secures to the beach chair and has worked well for me! On a few cruises have used it at the pool with much success! Like others on the cruises have left my valuables in our bag on the chair!

Hats off to ship security. On an MSC cruise, I put down my prescription glasses (in the case) for one moment while we took a photo at one of the pop-up booths on Dress Up Night and when I looked back it was gone. We flagged security, tracked videos, the photog knew who it was but didnt want to give him up. Once the culprit was "given heads up" we got my glasses back about an hour later. Still, who does that ? On all other cruises with HAL, Princess, RCL never a problem, and have seen purses, bags, cameras, phones, tablets put down to reserve buffet tables, chairs, pool area. Big_G Posted May 31, 2022 #22 Share Posted May 31, 2022 I just try not to temp anyone with an opportunity. In all my years in law enforcement I've seen people's brains turn to mush when an opportunity arises to steal the dumbest things at the dumbest place and time. Out of sight, out of mind.
Rare NutsAboutGolf Posted May 31, 2022 #23 Share Posted May 31, 2022 In the PUBLIC spaces just about everywhere is covered by the security cameras. If something gets stolen note the time and place you saw it last and head to guest services.

I will take my iPad to the pool or some other tablet. They are not very expensive and would be easily replaced.

It is the same as if you are at the beach, public pool, or hotel pool. Leaving it out in plain site you are tempting thieves. My personal thought is nothing of value at the pool period. Think of this, you are using the latest iPhone or Android with all the bells and whistles, or your lap top, or your ereader. Anyone out there sees you with it so even hiding it in a towel while you step away for a few seconds doesn't matter as you have already advertised you have it out there. It would be nice to think we don't have thieves on cruises, but you never know the background of everyone on board, even the staff the same way. Cruise smart is all I am saying.
