Not understanding what you are saying. I wasn't talking about present day, and I don't see that happening soon either. I was just responding to the assertion that Radiance class would have been able to call on Cuba. I don't think that was the case.

Royal needed that small ship at the time, have to remember they were already making more $$$$ with all existing Ships, other routes and was running average 108+% Capacity. Now, not so much. Vision & near Radiance sized Ships of other lines have done Cuba. As we agree Royal won't attempt reg Cuba sailings again

And you know this how or more speculation? I call it speculation and not facts.

Just agreeing with OP,  as I said above Regular Cruises from Cuba 'Possible"

The 4 Radiance ships should all be fine regardless, as Scarlet Lady was originally going to cruise to Havana; at 110,000 tons, 909 feet, and 2,770 pax she's similar to the Radiance Class

I think the extra 65 feet of length is the issue.  Edit to adjust to 50 feet, not 65. Not sure how big a ship the other Cuban ports can handle, but my understanding at the time I was looking at the Cuba cruises was that ship length was an issue, hence most of the lines were running smaller ships there length wise.

corrected to 50 feet extra length

You may be on to something here. Maybe Virgin built their Lady's with this in mind.

I also thought about draught - but ships up to 28 feet have called on Havana, so this would not limit our Radiance class.

I wonder if it's the turning basin (although could they just back it out?) or the actual docking area. I think, at least at one point, Havana was building a new cruise terminal.

  • The Casablanca anchorage is north of the Port of Havana's access channel that goes to the refinery. Cruise ships and coasting vessels use this anchorage. Berth No. 2 can accommodate four vessels with maximum length of 165 meters (541 feet). Depths range from 7.6 to 8.2 meters (24.9 to 26.9 feet), and the bottom is soft mud.
  • Cruise terminals

Located in Atares Cove near Old Havana, the Terminal Sierra Maestra serves the many cruise vessels calling at the Port of Havana. Centrally located in the Port of Havana, the Terminal Sierra Maestra is ideal for walking tours of the beautiful historic areas of town. With alongside depth of 9.75 meters (32 feet), the Port of Havana's Terminal Sierra Maestra has three berths with berthing distance of 201.8 meters (662.1 feet, one berth with berthing distance of 183.5 meters (602 feet), one berth with berthing distance of 190.5 meters (625 feet), and one berth with berthing distance of 171.3 meters (562 feet). The Sierra Maestra Terminal in the Port of Havana is operated by the Havana Dock Corporation, and it has a 6.2-acre roofed warehouse

I cannot see any mooring dolphins on the satellite map, hence I suspect they are already pushing the envelope with 915 foot ships. If chengkp75 finds this post he would know the answers, I am just speculating.

I know Grandeur isn't for everyone but there are some great prices on Grandeur this fall from Miami.

Inside guarantees starting from just over $200pp for a 5 night cruise in November.  Right around $500 solo with DP340 taxes in.  Great for those chasing points or looking for a really cheap getaway.

Thanks to @brilloheadwho is still struggling with her 12 step cruise-a-holic recovery program for finding this.

In my defense, I was trying to avoid flying around the US Thanksgiving weekend, so I ended up adding two cruises to the seven-in-a-row that I already had booked.

I told @Ourusualbeach that we need to make a 12-step program for cruise addicts.  The meetings can be posted on the Cruise Compass as "Friends of Ken"!!!!

Thanks for the heads up. Booked for my birthday next year. Got a very aft cabin which often isn’t included in the interline rates. Great itinerary.

Where do you sign up for the Friends of Ken meetings?  Lets make the meetings on a cruise ship!  I am Bill and I'm a Cruiseaholic.
