westwingjazz Posted July 3, 2022 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2022 Recently there has been a noticeable increase in fights aboard multiple cruise lines and I am bothered. My opinion is cruise lines needs deterrents, like you get put off in the country you started the occurrence in or on the next port. For example, imagine getting put off in Haiti 🇭🇹 and having to find your way back to the states. I bet the next time you want to cause a fight, you will think 🤔 twice. This also includes a lifetime ban across cruise lines. They should Have a ZERO tolerance for 🤬 have everyone sign waivers via cruise docs. What’s you all opinions.
billslowsky Posted July 3, 2022 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2022 Why would "Haiti" want them? It's one thing to dump someone in another state, but another country is totally different. Perhaps they should consider the amounts of alcohol involved.

That’s my point, being dropped off in another country will cost you thousands of dollars… it acts as a deterrent. How do you consider the amount of alcohol, set a limit? Rare brillohead Posted July 3, 2022 #4 Share Posted July 3, 2022 This has always been a thing (getting put off at a port). I recall one trip where a whole mess of families got taken off in port (I wanna say it was Cozumel, but I'm not sure), probably around 2016 or so. It was an April cruise with a bunch of 18yo kids who got caught causing problems (drinking, fighting), and they and their families got put off the ship at the next port. Something like 26 people altogether, dragging their luggage off the ship and down the pier. 10

firefly333 Posted July 3, 2022 #6 Share Posted July 3, 2022 I've only read of 2 incidents. It seems like a over reaction to demand cruiselines do something to make people behave better. The whole country is having incidents. Crime is up on land. Not surprising its spilled over a bit.
klfrodo Posted July 3, 2022 #7 Share Posted July 3, 2022 I think it’s just a matter of the world coming out of a lockdown. People just letting their hair down a celebrating their lives coming back to normal. As with all things in life, some are just pushing it too hard.

A solution would be out at the next port with an escort to the nearest airport. And a hefty bill too.

The cruise lines have a right and responsibility to their other passengers to stop a fight and also place people who do not follow the rules in the "brig". But I do not believe that all people who go on cruises on a budget are all "lowlifes". Just to be clear, I don’t think he is equating low budget to lowlifes. What we can agree on is there are lowlifes out there right??? And the affordable prices MAY attract “some trouble makers”….to be honest we are all on a budget, a paycheck or two from poverty…if not, we would be ALL be on world cruises or sail our own boats. So don’t take it personal and please stay on topic 🙏🏾….please and thank you.

And I agree, there are "lowlifes" everywhere in the world

I guess hourly employees who can get overtime are the outlier
Darkingnj Posted July 3, 2022 #16 Share Posted July 3, 2022 I'm not sure about a recent uptick in fights on cruise ships, I did view the two more recent large fights that took place on Carnival and Royal. I've seen videos of fights going back years ago and on different cruise lines. I believe the two more recent videos are receiving the attention they're receiving due to the size of the fight and the many people involved. I do agree with you with repercussions, I feel the cruise companies should start making an example and publicly placing these people on "do not cruise" lists in addition to expelling them from the ship at the next port. In the two viral videos it appears that the security response was slow. I'm not sure if this can be attributed to the crew shortage that the cruise lines are experiencing.

The summer pay is surprisingly good in Florida, and many courses are still being run as a remote course (online). But I agree, many of us are on a "fixed income".

My mom was his sole caregiver. Yes, she received food stamps to help with the food cost. Sick and tired of folks looking down on those less fortunate. Thank you for this. I hate the generalizations regarding this.

mo&fran Posted July 3, 2022 #21 Share Posted July 3, 2022 WE don't know what happened to the individuals in the recent incidents, , but what OP talked about has been the policy for the over 20 years of my recent cruising.
topnole Posted July 3, 2022 #22 Share Posted July 3, 2022 Probably more like an uptick in videos of such things and immediately getting posted on social media. This stuff has been going on forever. I remember seeing fights decades ago on ships. Just no social media back then.

shipgeeks Posted July 3, 2022 #24 Share Posted July 3, 2022 I keep wondering if any passengers who witnessed these brawls picked up a phone and called Security. It's easy: 911 is the emergency number on ships.

The ability to post events on Social Media and garner clicks ($) means they are less inclined to ask for help as it diminishes the "train wreck".
