mfs2k Posted July 30, 2022 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2022 If I pack chips will Celebrity let me host low stakes poker games on board Celebrity Beyond? Would be fun to have 8-9 players in a lounge and not in the casino.
Sox Fan Cruiser Posted July 30, 2022 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2022 (edited) Absolutely not! They will want you to use the casino. Now, if you are discreet and the don’t find out, how would they know?🤫. But if you ask them, they will definitely say no. And it’s also probably illegal. Gaming is highly regulated. Sox Fan Cruiser Posted July 30, 2022 #4 Share Posted July 30, 2022 Have seen them in action in the casino? (Rhetorical question based on your post). It’s very coordinated and monitored. Why do you think the casino has to be involved in Bingo.
Rare Fly and Sail Posted July 30, 2022 #5 Share Posted July 30, 2022 You can bring them but there is no way in hell Celebrity or any other cruise line will let you host gambling events (for money) on board. Now if you get together with a few buddies and start playing cards or whatever and put money on the table (even less obvious with chips) I doubt anyone will jump at you. But to somehow organize this in any obvious way... no chance. Thanks for the laugh though. 🙂 3

None with any out-of-the-way private areas, and no card room either.

Rare 1025cruise Posted July 30, 2022 #12 Share Posted July 30, 2022 If you want to bring some chips for a small friendly game, no betting, no issue. The minute you involve money its a no-no.

SHIP TRAVELER Posted July 30, 2022 #14 Share Posted July 30, 2022 I have seen quite a pile of dollar bills on the table in big group LRC dice games. No one said anything to us in the afternoons in the Martini Bar on S class but it was not a long drawn out exposure. Still gambling...didn't ask premission..
Rare DCPIV Posted July 30, 2022 #15 Share Posted July 30, 2022 (edited) I really don't think they would say a word if you and some others were playing a cash game on the ship. However, there's no way in the world they will allow you to promote an open game, much less reserve a lounge for it. I would expect any talk in the casino that goes beyond "wouldn't it be great if" might get you a word or two from the pit boss. I don't know how you could pull it all together unless you already had arranged something with folks via something like a roll call thread. Also, I don't know that I'd be terribly keen on joining such a game. I love poker, and I expect you're an honest, good natured fellow. However, an invitation from some random other passenger for a private game would get my spidey sense tingling something fierce. Been on Edge twice, prior to Pandemic and cruises were full, and on the Apex recently, and there were Many places to enjoy card games (no, not low-stakes or strip Poker!) and just socializing. Loved the Eden area with it quiet sitting areas along the wraparound walkway. I guess just different experiences or views. Den

Yes, I’ve been in low-stakes poker and the classic ‘lets play a bit of Gin Rummy for just a bit for each point’ and found out….it Ain’t Low-Stakes. But Im sure our OP just wants to play poker with just a bit of an edge to it to keep it interesting. Been in ‘free’ games where some just stay in no matter what their hands are and takes away from the enjoyment. Den

I could tell many asian players were gambling but they were not obvious about it. There as no money on the table.

I have seen LCR organised by a Roll Call group and X set aside space for them, from memory either in Tuscan or Blu late morning or early afternoon, strictly on a no money basis. I believe the money was paid "surreptitiously" to the organiser who issued "tokens" to used during the play. Also on Silhouette Transatlantic 2019 the Cabin Crawl was combined with a Poker Run. Entry fee for the poker was 💲10. You collected a card at the start, 3 more from different cabins during the crawl and the last card at the end. Prizes were 50% to the highest hand, 25% to the next and 25% to the worst. Decks were marked on the backs. Added a bit of fun to the crawl. We have organized LCR games and they don’t look at that as gambling and taking potential revenue from them and I doubt the gaming commission would. When we have organized LCR we were provided a space once in Blu with a time limit of 2 hours another time we were given a conference room to use. BOB999 Posted July 30, 2022 #22 Share Posted July 30, 2022 (edited) As long as it's primarily social in nature and the OP isn't obnoxious about it, I'd doubt Celebrity would have an issue with it, even if there is some exchange of money. Where they would have an issue in my mind is if the OP is: Recruiting participants from the Casino or otherwise advertising the game Occupying prime real estate at prime hours Interfering with Celebrity activities Reserving tables hours in advance (i.e. putting signs up or acting like chair hoggers) Being loud or bothering other guests Edited July 30, 2022 by BOB999

Jazzbo Posted July 30, 2022 #25 Share Posted July 30, 2022 I just discovered a few chips from a Celebrity cruise in a small handbag. No idea which one.🤷🏼♀️ I’m guessing they’re useless now.
