Is this a good upgrade?

Just received an email from Princess that our group of 6 cabins were upgraded from obstructed oceanviews OV to regular non-obstructed oceanviews OC on Ruby Princess, but moving from good deck 8 to deck 5, above unknown deck 4 space below & under casino on deck 6 above.  They were able to still keep all of our 6 cabins tog6.  Not sure if this is a good upgrade...?

Have you ever looked at pictures of your existing cabins?
I think I’d want to keep my old room, if the view was ok. We often choose obstructed views, and they are good value for money.
Having said that, I’ve always wanted to try Deck 5, right near the Piazza. I don’t think I’d chance everyone moving, if I was the one who booked the cabins. Will the other people complain? That would be my luck.. 5 other cabins of unhappy people because of the change. What were the cabin numbers on the Emerald deck?

I love Plaza Deck.  IF...it is between the Piazza and the forward elevators.  Any more forward than that may encounter pitch (is that correct?), anchor noises, decrease in cabin sizes as you approach the bow).

You are closer to public restrooms, IC, MDR, etc.  Closer to the water line.  Unobstructed ocean view.  No need to use the elevator.

What are the cabin numbers?

We sailed in P328 on Emerald and it was the worst cabin we have ever had. Nonstop banging and clanging and it is super narrow so there can only be a bedside table on one side of the bed and an extremely narrow space down the other side. We liked the location but despised the cabin. Make sure you aren't in one of those extra narrow cabins.

The 6 cabins in a row are P246 - P308, between fwd elevators & piazza, straight & way before front end of ship starts to bow in.  OC 179 square feet.   Looks like good location, just worried about unknown space on Deck 4 below, & under casino on deck 6....

You should be concerned about what’s under you.  These are the water shuttle Embarkation landings (both sides).  On tender days, it may be noisy.  How many tender ports will you have?

Have you looked at the deck plans on your Medallion app?

Otherwise, the Medical Center is a little forward in Deck 4 and security.  On disembarkation day, there may be luggage being offloaded….early.

No way I would ever be under a casino.
I could not sleep until they closed. What about the smoke filtering into deck 5 from the casino?  I would have concerns.

I’d get my cabins back.  Are they using 8 for quarantine?

Are you traveling with more than two in a cabin? Four of the six will have bunks on the walls, as they are quad cabins.  EM

That is reason enough for me to say "no thank you".

I'm with you. No way do I want to deal with those stupid beds on the walls. Nope, nope, nope. Never gonna happen.

If there aren’t more than two of you in a cabin I would see if there are open Ocean View cabins in the same category that aren’t quads that you can move to. The bunks on the wall are intrusive, in particular if the bed is set up as a queen.

Agree 100% (no, 200%).

If you only have two people in a cabin, those wall mounted bunks will cause many bruises as parts of your body will hit them often.

It is truly not an upgrade if you value comfort.

@NavyCruiserwhat did you finally do?  I do prefer the double (not quad) cabins nearer to the Piazza.  I have not been bothered by the casino smoke or noise. Hope you can retrieve your cabins, but it’s been a few days and they may have been reassigned by now.  Thanks for getting back to all of us.

Thanks for all the awesome replies above.  Will call tomorrow morning & ask to see if they all are quad cabins, if they are, then we'll go back to deck 8 obstructed ocean view cabins.

BTW, it was a great deal for only $40 per person to upgrade from interior cabin to obstructed ocean view for 7 nights.   Now wondering if another $216 per person for balcony is worth it or not....

Thanks

246, 248, 304 & 306 are quad cabins per the deck plans.  304 & 306 are connecting cabins.  Since you haven’t told us your original cabin numbers, it’s possible some of them were quads also.  EM

Quads don't always show up on the cruise line's deck plans so I use a popular online travel broker  that offers ocean cruises, river cruises, and land tours.

One way to see which are the quads on Princess to go through the plan a cruise process and say there will be 4 people in the cabin. Only the quads will then be shown.

It's been a while since Princess had a printed "Cruise Atlas"/"Destination Collection," but the ship maps in that booklet do show which cabins are quads.
