vppro Posted August 11, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2022 Does anyone know if I can use the AG Covid test kits sold at drugstores instead of buying the Binax test and still use eMed for the supervised testing? Seems like the tests bought though Celebrity are much more expensive than buying from Walgreen's or CVS. Thanks.

No, but you can use those tests with onpoint testing instead of emed.
Rare teacherman Posted August 11, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2022 Can I use the FREE tests the government will send us together with the Onpoint testing monitor?
TeeRick Posted August 11, 2022 #5 Share Posted August 11, 2022 Check out the new testing rules for your particular sailing. You might not even need a monitored self test.

Yes, i received ours a week ago with exactly this in mind. But when is your cruise and where? The rules just changed yesterday for many cruises starting 10 Sept. No proctoring required.

The reason they are more expensive is because the price includes monitoring.

Yes with a caveat. They want the test box to be unopened. I know in my last round of free tests, I got sent a large box of 4, so if I had two left in there, I could not use it since the box was open. Otherwise, the free tests are fine. Two in my group just used Onpoint with the free test kits that were in the orange box and there was no issue. thethreeofus Posted August 11, 2022 #10 Share Posted August 11, 2022 Testing policies changed yesterday for sailings Sept 5 and after. Depending on where you are sailing from, you may not need proctored testing.Check the website for your particular port and date.
wrk2cruise Posted August 11, 2022 #11 Share Posted August 11, 2022 The Abbot tests provided by emed/Optum are not the same as the ones you buy over the counter. Well yes they are probably the same but the emed ones are labeled as RX and have a red band and the over the counter ones are blue band box. I believe with OnPoint if using the tests which come several to the box the internal components are all sealed and you can't open those sealed packages without the proctor observing. For our cruise, no proctor required, so it turns out that the OnPoint acceptance is moot.

Rare teacherman Posted August 11, 2022 #17 Share Posted August 11, 2022 We are scheduled for a 7 night cruise on November 27. As of today, we have to test. Hopefully, it will be eliminated by November.
