It was brought to my attention that if you connect a laptop to the ships premium wifi and turn on the laptops hotspot then your phone can make phone calls and send/receive SMS texts.  Occasionally the ships internet works fine but for whatever reason, the SMS and wi-fi calling capability go offline

Actually you don't need to connect your phone to a laptop to make phone calls and SMS text.  All you have to do is turn on Wifi Calling under settings, put your phone in airplane mode and connect and sign on to the Ships Wifi.

The only advantage of the hotspot would be that you could be on you PC and and make phone calls simultaneously using a single account logon.

Correct…For many on a casino deal where you do not receive free Wi-Fi you may be able to get away with paying for less devices.  You also don’t need to bother with buying and setting up a travel router

It’s on board Summit that worries me.

We were on Summit in August to Iceland and Greenland. No issues.

Having just completed a pair of Eclipse sailings in the South Pacific, I have to say I saw very little difference with Starlink. We even had a full day with no connectivity around New Caledonia. I expected better.

And the Summit. It's even after the Equinox - date says 12/23/23 for the Summit.

Thanks, rearranged them

Per recent social media posts, Starlink is live on Summit.

Thanks, just made my day

This made my day too.  Thanks!  👍  I'll be on the Summit in 5 weeks.  It's a shortie where I could do without the Net, but maybe if it's actually good, it might be worth hooking up for a day or two.

Just off Equinox 19 days.   I consistently got ~ 5mbs download and 2.5 upload.  At the Captains Club welcome event the IT manager stopped by to talk.   I asked why I was still getting buffering while streaming with the premium package and Starlink.   He seemed surprised and said it might be a week WiFi signal.  When I got back to the room there was an access point installed on the counter (plugged into an ethernet jack near the other plugs, note to self carry a spare ethernet cable!).

While it did seem to help and any buffering I had was generally just a second or 2 there were times where it was worse I guess due to location or weather.

I did run into the manager again and commented again about the 5 mbs and he said that's what they have it cap'ed at.

Thanks for sharing.  I'm highlighting this bombshell.  I struggle to understand how 5 mbps down can be considered "premium" - especially for as much as Celebrity charges for it.

FYI, we were on Infinity earlier this month and Starlink was live (we could see the receivers while walking around up on deck 11). We were surprised after seeing the planned rollout schedule with Infinity listed as 2024.

I wonder what they "capped" the Basic service at? From what I'm reading on CC, you still can't log into Cruise Critic and other multi-layered websites using their Basic Internet service if there are more than 1100 guests onboard.

It looks like celebrity is updating each of the ships’ info page with which ones have had starlink installed. I checked the summit, reflection and constellation. Both summit and reflection has it listed as pictured below, but the connie’s page doesn’t
