As someone who has spent a lot of time with famous people over the last 25 years of my life,  I can assure you that the last thing you want to do is draw attention to this person on their vacation. It will completely ruin your trip, as it will invite unwanted attention, it will be disruptive to them and to the rest of you, leading you to be continually interrupted in every meal and activity that you do, and it will cause the person and possibly others in your party to become reclusive and want to hide out on their vacation.

While I understand wanting to celebrate and acknowledge this achievement for your family member, and that's awesome by the way, I don't think you have an understanding of how this could negatively change your vacation experience. I would take others suggestions of doing a specialty dinner or something that can be enjoyed privately by your family, but that doesn't make a big show to the rest of the passengers, unless you want your cruise experience altered in such a way that it won't be as relaxing or as enjoyable as you might envision.

Given this is new to you guys, you might find this attention fun for a while, but trust me, having every meal you have in a public setting interrupted, even just for a quick 3 seconds of congratulations gets old very, very quickly, because those 3 seconds from 1 person turns into an hour or 2 when it happens repeatedly for your entire meal.

And lastly, this could endanger their safety if it draws the attention of the wrong person. Just a bad idea to make a public show of this in a place where you can't escape, in my experience.

I could not imagine how much my family member would murder me if I caused a huge announcement on the ship. I guess I was hoping to suprise them with maybe a nice note from rccl, but it doesn't seem to be a thing.

Maybe they'd have a "congratulations" banner for the room or something. My guess is their congratulations banners are decorated for newlyweds. But maybe not.

I'm not sure how you get in touch with the people who provide the special occasion decorations, but if you can contact them, ask what their congratulations banners look like, and order a cake for the room. And maybe a bottle of champagne. That would be nice.

Am I missing something? This seems we’re in junior high school and somebody posted about wanting to have a party for their friend’s uncle brother’s cousin who made Chief Eagle Scout. Really? Get the person a card, but I can’t really see how it warrants a threat at CC.

CC is Junior High School...What are you new?😁😁

I guess I meant more about a card or something as the only celebrations Royal has is birthday or anniversary. I did not in anyway mean an announcement to the whole cruise.

I think a lot of negativity has been tossed back your way. It was a harmless question and you are happy and excited for a family member, as you should be. The keep it low key and politics free on vacation advice is wise. But it's very nice you are happy and proud of your family. Congratulations.

We had a tablemate who was a recent cancer survivor...RCCL gave her (and her husband), a complimentary  dinner at Chops. No announcements, no fuzz, just a nice quiet gesture.

Being a Cancer survivor and being a Politician from Massachusetts are on two totally different ends of the Spectrum....

IMO, your best option is to have your own personal celebration.   Have their cabin decorated and order a cake.   You may order gifts precruise on the cruise planner.

As a worldwide corporation, I highly doubt they will write a personal note for a political campaign.

If you do not like the gifts you see on cruise planner, then bring your own decorations for inside the cabin.

Then speak with head waiter about ordering a cake and order a bottle of champagne for the table.

If in a suite you can arrange thru your concierge.

Come on, it’s usually at least a 10th grade level of discourse here! 😽

In Ontario we have two streams in grade 10. The academic stream (going to post-secondary) and the applied stream. At best, this discourse is grade 10 applied. 😉

Perhaps a newlyweds banner would be appropriate here. They do call it "The Honeymoon Period" in politics, don't they. 😉

Years ago a buddy of mine was way up in the Provincial Government here in Ontario. When he won his position I bought him a beer.

Over the years he told me lots of stories about his life in politics.  Those stories made me wonder why anyone would want to go into politics in the first place. So, to the OP my condolences to you family member and their loved ones.

Years later when my buddy finally lost an election and retired from politics I bought him 6 beers! Now that was something to celebrate! 🍻

Agreed.  My cousin's husband was high up the ranks of security for the Ontario Premier over the years. Just hearing his stories was enough for me. I heard many interesting stories as well.

He said he knew every escape route from every hotel in Toronto, who had the best cups of coffee and he didn't like Bob Rae.  Mainly because he wanted to sit in the from seat of the car as he drove the premier from home to work and back.  He said he wanted an unobstructed view out the passenger window, and Rae was right in the way. When heads of state, high ranked officials, etc... were in Ontario he would also be assigned to them. He also escorted the Pope, the Queen numerous times. He could never tell you where he was going, but he could always tell you where he had been.

He was actually personally invited to the Queens Royal Jubilee in England in 2012, but he had to decline as he was to be in uniform. He did not want any photos of him circulating in uniform as he was always "just a man in a suit".  He retired the year after and was then able to have tea with the Queen and a few other select guests the following summer. My cousin was sad that the invitation didn't come with a plus one.

Now, for your friend, he should have bought the beers for you with his life pension after 6 years. 😉

Ask you cousin's husband if he ever had to drive a politician from the legislature to his weekly hockey games and back.

And yes he could afford way more than 6 beers with his pension, the cheap 🤬. 😁

Next time I see him I will. I know he drove the wife and son on the leader of Zimbabwe to Niagara Falls.  The drive took 2.5 hours one way, then they walked from the car to the falls and looked for 5 minutes and then drove back to Toronto.

6 years, for 6 beers would be more than a fair trade off. In a round about way, even if he bought you and I are paying for it. 😉

RCCL makes really nice celebratory cakes.  My Pinnacle cake was HUGE, with colored white chocolate pineapple fronds about 4 inches long, and tasted amazing.

Were you on a charter cruise and were the pineapple fronds upside down?

HA! No and no.

But, the cake was bald by the time the waiter came back to cut it.  We sat there and ate the yummy colored white chocolate fronds off of it while waiting.  He laughed when he walked up.

Hey Kgtgirl,

A very big CONGRATS to your family member and you are very thoughtful to want to celebrate.

But as others have said, the celebration should be private and personal, and involve only those directly in the cruising party.  The cruise ship should have NO role in sending any kind of message--that would be inappropriate, sorry.  There is a level of neutrality required from those who have no part in politics or voting.

BTW, I worked in state government for two terms, knew all the high honchos, and was on almost 24 hour call availability during my eight years and missed many vacations and holidays.  So when I went on vacation (not as often as I wanted to!), I desired anonymity, and peace and tranquility.

I will say my work was very challenging, but one of the greatest experiences in my professional career, as the learning was astounding.  Now that those days are behind me, I was able to join CC and do some catch-up cruising.

Have a wonderful time!

Your initial post certainly sounded like you were asking how you could get them to announce it on the ship.  That is why the comments are as such.  Either way, I doubt Royal wants to get invoked every time someone gets a promotion or advances their career.  No catchy songs for that one.  😂😂

They could just use the campaign funds to get Star class. Probably a more legitimate use of the funds than 90% of what campaign funds are typically used for.  😂😂😂.  Then they can ask the genie for whatever they want.
