Thank you for the link. I think the key words are "in Australia". "We can confirm that mask wearing is being applied on board all Carnival Corporation brand ships operating in Australia and the region as an additional safeguard in light of the current rate of covid-19 in the general community," a Carnival Australia spokesperson said. 7

On the Emerald Princess - still optional (16 night sailing). The vast majority of both are not masking. Speaking with the crew - the ones I spoke with have all had COVID during this contract so they feel comfortable not masking. @sunviking90 is on my sailing. I will go as far to say I have been mocked by a few passengers for wearing mine. Edited November 19, 2022 by Coral 2
Rare sunviking90 Posted November 19, 2022 #56 Share Posted November 19, 2022 I brought a good supply of masks but haven’t been wearing them except in the theatre. DH caught a nasty bug while we were travelling in Europe before the cruise (multiple tests and not Covid) while I stayed healthy. We also had Covid in August so I guess I have been feeling invincible, lol. We all know what that gets you! We do avoid crowded areas and especially the Piazza. My mask is going on today though as I went down to get our early morning coffees at the IC which is usually almost empty at 6 am. Today with the time change there was a huge lineup, a lady behind me was coughing up a lung, a fellow waiting in front of me turned to avoid coughing at the counter and on it goes.

That's not very nice! I've made a deal with the world that I will wear my mask WHERE and WHEN I feel it's appropriate. No, I don't want to discuss it. Those who have a problem with it can kiss a certain Southern breakfast meal that I don't eat but would bring out just so they can embrace it appropriately. Properly distanced, of course. 😆 6
LidoLiz Posted November 19, 2022 #58 Share Posted November 19, 2022 Well, DH has been released from purgatory and is on his way back to the sun and fun of the Lido deck. After he tested negative this morning, the process was very quick and he was free within the hour. They have strongly recommended he wear his mask when around others for the rest of the cruise but otherwise he is back to being a normal entity. Unexpectedly, I received a lovely bouquet of flowers and a card from the Rooms Division & Guest Services desk: “We hope you get well soon and kindly contact us at any time, we are here to assist you.” Nice touch.

Rare gottagocit Posted November 19, 2022 #63 Share Posted November 19, 2022 Has anyone onboard the Emerald now and now in isolation been given info on what you are to after disembarking? Perhaps it’s a bit too early to expect that but I’m curious.

I have encountered comments like that while wearing masks in stores etc. I just smiled (behind my mask) and just moved on, not letting the problems that others have become mine. You can't fix ignorance or rudeness so why try? Edited November 19, 2022 by azbirdmom 12

Perhaps it’s a bit too early to expect that but I’m curious. We have been told that we will be escorted off the ship at 10 am, presumably after most passengers have left. Then we will head to the taxi stand (we cancelled our post-cruise excursion). They are offering the EZ check service for our luggage for $25 pp, so we will take advantage of that. They will apparently also deliver our airline boarding passes to us the night before we disembark. 4

Rare Crashe Posted November 19, 2022 #68 Share Posted November 19, 2022 Cruising in January, such a comforting post about a potential controversial topic. I’m sitting here after a low grade fever for 13 days and 3 days in hospital after suffering covid induced double vision (6th cranial nerve palsy). Visions getting better, (2 weeks since discharge), 2nd run in with covid, fully immunized w/booster. Who knew! Comforting to read your post, I was very curious about the latest things. Wish you guys the best! (Covid now has my respect…) 5

As long as we could communicate we’d be ok with it. I know everyone has different perspectives but our experience in the summer with the ease of passing it to each other in a 2000 sq ft house, never mind a 200 sq ft stateroom decided it for us.

Sausage gravy? 😆 Any patience I had for almost three years for dealing with those who mocked my mask wearing is long gone. I’m afraid I would suggest anyone commenting kiss something far less pleasant than southern oatmeal. It’s best I just don’t cruise I guess, or I would find myself in trouble.

That was our decision and I never regretted it. It was nice to be able to send things from our cabin to DH in quarantine. But the biggest reason was that, from the time he tested positive, his only concern was for me. In fact, he was so crazy with worry about me that I hoped that, if I tested positive, there would be a second quarantine cabin available for me. He would have kept me up all night making sure I was ok. The hardest part was talking to each other using that darned wired cabin phone. The internet wasn’t good enough to phone each other over WiFi on our cell phones, and the cabin phone required us to each be sitting at the desk/vanity. 3
