Rare JamieLogical Posted December 18, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 18, 2022 We are about to board the Emerald Princess for our 15-day Panama canal cruise out of Port of LA. Anyone know how early we can show up to the terminal? Our scheduled arrival time is 11:00. Also, once on board can we go straight to our room to drop out carry-ons like on Celebrity? Or do we need to lug them around until rooms are ready?
Rare 1025cruise Posted December 18, 2022 #2 Share Posted December 18, 2022 If you have an 11:00 arrival time, that's when you should plan to arrive. You will need to lug your bags around until cabins are ready.

Don't know about how early you can show up, but I can tell you what our experience has been since the restart when it comes to cabin access on embarkation. Each time, we boarded as soon as they were allowing people to board, and cabins weren't ready yet. Each time, cabins were ready shortly thereafter. I think you should plan your carry-ons based on needing to schlep them around with you for a bit.
Raze Posted December 18, 2022 #4 Share Posted December 18, 2022 I've read to arrive 30 minutes early.

We always go to cabin first, drop off carryons, not to disturb Steward if they are not quite finished. Put bags in closet. Usually, they announce cabin’s won’t be ready till 100-130pm. Head off to lunch.

nini Posted December 18, 2022 #7 Share Posted December 18, 2022 In January 2018, we waited an incredibly long time to board. Maybe things have changed or improved.
Rare JamieLogical Posted December 19, 2022 Author #8 Share Posted December 19, 2022 (edited) Well I got onboard yesterday. Arrived at the terminal a little after 10:30. Check-in and security both has lines but nothing crazy. A lot of people were already seated and waiting. We got assigned boarding group 5. They didn't start boarding anyone until almoat noon. After all the elites and platinums and groups 1-4, we got onboard around 12:30. Edited December 19, 2022 by JamieLogical

After the Christmas and New Year’s sailings, may need more sanitizing. Probably full ships over the holidays.

Elite,Suite, Club Class, Platinum? That old grouping by decks is both arbitrary and unfair. Why have they ignored Arrival Groups? Just show up when convenient. Elites and Suites - not just Sky ones - can show up anytime and get priority check-in. Also, a special waiting area if ship not ready to take on passengers when cleared check-in and the priority sections go first. Once the waiting group has cleared, guests just stroll on board as they complete check-in.

Not very often though. IDK what the reasoning is for it. Would really be an issue if you’re traveling with friends/family on different decks. Other lines I have sailed on have done this staggered boarding, precovid. I just show up when it’s most convenient.
