A very smooth sailing at sea today on beautiful Rotterdam.

 

I think there must have been a medical emergency about 5:15 this morning. I looked over the balcony and saw a Coast Guard boat next to us.

 

 

 

 

We had a great, fun day on our St. Kitts excursion yesterday. Where Atlantic meets Caribbean a little monkey jumped from the handler into my arms! She had a little necklace on and wanted to see what was in my hair. I finally asked her handler to take picture's, gave him a tip and continued on.

Great collection of days.  I love pie, maybe I'll make one this afternoon.  My handwriting isn't very good.  I haven't had my feet measured in years, maybe I should do it the next time I get new shoes.  Do they still have those metal contraptions?

Good Morning Everyone, thanks for the daily fleet report.  Today’s meal suggestion sounds like a good one.  We will be having chicken for dinner.  I’d like to celebrate pie today but don’t have any in the house.  Yesterday one of my errands was to collect the soda bottle deposits and turn it into two bottles of wine.  I hope everyone has a nice Monday.

I think I'm kind of  a miss on the days today, haven't measured my feet in years (and some stores do still have the little measuring plates), and pie is great but not diabetic friendly.  The quote is interesting but not convinced it is true.  It appears Zuiderdam is very close to landing (tendering) at today's port, not sure if that's happened before.  I believe Raitea is the island and Uturoa is the little settlement.  I like London Broil but tend to go light on red meat, opting more for poultry.   My alternative is Chilled Banana Soup,  and Oven Roasted Chicken as served on MS Maasdam January 23, 2015.

Good morning friends!  It's 40F and will be a mostly sunny day with a high of only 48F.  Tonight will be even colder than last night.  I think we will go out for groceries today.  I am hearing sirens somewhere nearby and hope nothing serious is happening in the neighborhood.

 

Thanks for posting the Daily today Roy @rafinmdfor Rich @richwmn.  Interesting days to celebrate.  I love pie but don't have any here today.  Haven't measured my feet in decades, like most people.  My handwriting used to be good but not so much anymore.  My late DS Nancy had beautiful handwriting her whole life.  They actually taught us how to write cursive when our generation "came up".  Not anymore from what I hear.  I can't understand the reasoning on that.  The London Broil sounds delicious.  Odd quote today.  No thanks to the drink and wine.  

 

Prayers said for all on the Care list today, while we celebrate with the happy folks on the Celebration list.  Joy @Seasick Sailorwhat a cute monkey!  I'm glad they got a photo for you.  Much as you hate the cruising to end it will be good to be home for a bit to catch up on things.  Then another cruise to look forward to!  Yay!  

 

Uturoa, French Polynesia is where the Zuiderdam is today on the World Cruise.  It's located in the Society Islands on the largest island Raiatea.  Previously Raiatea, French Polynesia was our port of the day on Feb. 19, 2022 and May 29, 2022.  Since Uturoa is the capital and only significant town on the island I think we can say today is the third time for that destination and hopefully all the WC passengers enjoy a lovely day there.  We went there once on Maasdam in April 2017.  Here are the links to retrieve photos everyone.

 

 

 

On April 12, 2017 the Maasdam stopped in Uturoa, Raiatea, French Polynesia.  This is what it looked like from the top deck of the ship that morning.

 

This cheery group played and sang for us as we departed the ship.

 

We went to that little cafe right next to the ship for something to drink and to try their wifi but unfortunately it was not working very well. 

 

 

It looked like you get do some type of excursion by taking a boat ride from here.

 

Across the street was this tent with a crowd gathered so we went to see what was going on.  

 

More music and dancing!

 

 

Everyone was having a good time

 

After listening for a while we went into the adjoining building where the marketplace was.

 

 

 

As we left the building we noticed our ship master, Captain van Dreumel had arrived for a Welcome to Raiatea ceremony.  He was dressed appropriately for this island tradition.

 

Where the dancing had gone on before, now everyone was seated and paying attention to the proceedings.

 

It looked like the Captain received a plaque.

 

After the ceremony we walked a few blocks around town just taking it all in.

 

It's always fun to check out a grocery store!

Nearing mid day it was getting too darn hot so we decided to board the ship.  No wifi was found that morning, sad to say.  But even worse, we saw an ambulance near the gangway taking a sick passenger away.  This is not something you would like to experience so far away from home.

 

I do hope they weren't too ill and made it back to the ship before we sailed.  

 

Next day would be Bora Bora and a wonderful time spent with Patrick at his motu.

Thank you Rich & Roy for bringing us today’s Report & Daily. Very cloudy this morning, but it may just be a thick marine layer. There was quite a breeze when Bindi and I went out earlier. 
 

Roy, thank you. You really have taken us all under your wing. Gym, Bindi walks, wrapping up my plumbing project and chores will fill my day. I am not sure I will have time to measure my feet. 🤔 I can just picture Rich rubbing his hands together with glee when he picked that day for us.

Millton Pinot Noir Gisborne La Cote 2021

This is a tough one. The last vintage of this biodynamic wine with a critic review was the 2018 and that was in May of 2022. If you opt for the 2021 vintage, you might need to give it a few years.  But the only distributor for the 2021 vintage is in New Zealand. You have more options for earlier vintages. The 2021 costs $27.63 without shipping, and the easier to find 2020 will cost $34.95 and the shipping is bound to be a bit cheaper.

Like many wines from New Zealand's biodynamic godfather, James Millton, La Cote requires patience. At first pour it's mushroomy and funky, but it changes in the glass and bottle the longer it's open, revealing a complex combo of maraschino cherry, juniper, celery leaf and rose petal. Raspingly dry (a surprise, considering the fruity nose), the palate harmonizes into something elegant and characterful, smudged with charcoal-textured tannins along with a bony frame. A wine entirely inimitable.

Interesting collection of days.  Not any I can celebrate - no pie in the house and I’m not going anywhere.  Can’t celebrate Handwriting even though mine is normally decent - it’s abysmal now - can’t write with a broken elbow.

 

Not sure if that quote is true all the time but it is true for some people 😉. London Broil sounds good - will wait until I can cut again 😉

 

Today’s port was on our itinerary but missed due to weather and tender conditions.  The only pic I got was from my verandah on board.

 

Well, they said it would snow.  Looks pretty from inside

 

 

 

but you can see it’s building up fast from my garbage bin and lamps.

 

 

I fear we will surpass the 40 cm max they forecasted for us.  We often get more than the port city they base it on.  I don’t have to go anywhere - just hope my snow angels shovel for me tonight (they’ve agreed to be paid at long last) and my driveway gets done 🤞 It should get all cleaned up in time for the next one 😔

Good Monday morning!   We are at sea for 2 days heading toward Puerto Montt, Chile on Wednesday.   Our walk and lunch on Robinson Crusoe Island was thwarted yesterday by a complication with the tendering.  Instead of staggering the tender tickets throughout the morning at 10:00 it was declared no tickets required.   We waited about 30 minutes to board our tender and then waited about 15 minutes off the pier waiting to unload.   When we saw the line to board our tender about 6 of us just decided to keep our precious seats on the tender and head back to the Volendam.   Instead of a lobster lunch on RCI I had lobster for dinner last night.    Many photos were posted by people on our GSA FB page and it is simply beautiful to admire from afar also.   We left late last evening because the Type A blood receiver from the day before was evacuated after the last tender.   The medical staff escorted the passenger ashore and then reboarded.   The passenger will be airlifted off from the island.   Hard to spot any flat place on the island.    Prayers that they can get their needed treatment ashore.

Thanks for the Daily Reports @rafinmd!    Today's pie has me thinking about pie.     Not much pie aboard the Volendam other than the Key Lime in the PG.   It is probably a good thing because I love fruit pie.  I have had to decide I cannot eat those beautiful pastries that greet us every morning in the Lido.   I am afraid that the blood sugar issues that I had 15 years ago are returning due to me gaining weight and not sticking to the Atkins Diet.   Today I walked the straight and narrow and had 2 fried eggs and crispy bacon.   The sugar free desserts are ok for after dinner but I usually never have room for them.

Bourbon Squash cocktail:

 

Ingredients
1 1/2 parts Maker's Mark® Bourbon
3/4 parts Orange Juice
1/2 part Lemon Juice
1 tsp Simple Syrup

Instructions
Squeeze citrus juices into a tall glass. Add simple syrup and pack the glass with shaved ice. Add Makers Mark® Bourbon and stir. Serve with a cocktail straw.

We have "just enough" snow to make it pretty outside.  I just took my car out of the garage and while I was backing it into the area where I wanted to park, a large rabbit came around from the front of the house, so I just sat there for a few minutes wishing I had my phone or our other camera.   I was also expecting to see our oldest cat chasing this rabbit.  Thankfully the oldest cat was busy in the garage waiting for me to come in and give her treats.  

 

I think most adults know the size of their feet.  I haven't seen one of those metal measuring devices in many, many years.  Pie is good.  I will pass on the drink. 

 

I have to take the youngest cat to the vet.  She has been shaking her head a lot over the past 4 days and the vet wants to make sure she doesn't have ear mites. She isn't scratching her ears, so the vet said to bring her in so she can look with her ear scope.

I love London broil but have not had it for a long time. I better get going on eating food that needs two hands before surgery!
 

Handwriting has never been my strong suit. That’s probably why I want to medical school. Thank goodness we now have electronic records. 
 

I am totally impressed with all the pictures everyone shares. I am horrible about taking them let alone organizing them. Thank you for sharing. 
 

Prayers to all, my motto for 2023 is DREAM. 2022 brought such a dark cloud for so many we need to learn to dream again.

Good Monday Morning Dailyites!   I like pie, pretty much all pie, and if I don't like the pie, I put whipped cream on it, and then I like the pie.  When I was a kid, I hated pie.  Didn't like the crust, now I appreciate a good crust.  Ahhh....maturity.

 

The computer says it's 38 degrees, and it's sunny today, it just wont get warm.

 

I used to have good handwriting, now it seems to be mood sensitive, it leans to the right, and then leans to the left, and sometimes, it's just straight up and down.  I used to work in insurance fraud, matching signatures from the original application, and those reinstatements that mysteriously appeared after a customer had passed away.  Right now, I wouldn't be able to pass that signature test.  It has changed from being my own, then looking like my mom's and then my dads and then sometimes my brothers, and then now, I cant read my own writing.  

 

This morning is girls breakfast out, but because Penny has to take Jessie for a Proton radiation therapy check up right after breakfast, , she is bringing Jessie, and then DH found out that Jessie is coming, and he wanted to come, so that when he orders a pancake or a muffin, it would still be warm when he ate it.  And then I called Terry and told her if she didn't mind to bring her hubby Marshall.  I have not heard back from her.  All 3 hubbies have had cancer, each one a different type.

@4966and556 Feral fawn has been having the same ear issues.  But our vet said that after their last attempt to see the cat, when she jumped out of the carrier, clawed the assistant and then jumped from her head trying to get into the ceiling, that Fawn is NOT ALLOWED ever again at that vets.  I think I will just call instead.  Maybe they can just sell me some meds.

 

I hope that you have more luck than I do with cats at the vets.
