Good morning friends!  It's a little warmer this morning, 35F with a high of 61 and some sun later in the day expected.  Probably no precipitation which is a good thing.  Thank you to Rich for setting up the Daily ahead of time.  I did have to edit the Volendam destination and hope the rest of the ships are where they planned to be.  According to Rich's research, today we celebrate National Shower With a Friend day, National Weatherman's day, and Dump Your Significant Jerk day.  No plans to shower with anyone, and yes I do appreciate my weatherman because I hold no hard feelings against them even when they tell me the truth less than 100% of the time.  But the one that makes me giggle is Dump Your Significant Jerk day!  I can't wait to hear what you all have to say about that.  The quote is funny as well, and the veggie menu suggestion will be popular with the vegetarians, vegans, or whatever else names describe a person who eats lots of vegetables.  Debbie @dfish, show us the recipes!  I'll say no to the drink again but will drink a Sauvignon Blanc most days.  And finally our port today is Waterford, Ireland.  This is a first time posting of Waterford here so no links needed.  Instead we must search our photos to find some to post and that is more time consuming.  I  have been to Waterford one time so will have to begin digging for those photos.

On our list today we have two relatives of Dailyites who passed recently so prayers for them and their families/friends.  Always a sad time for those left behind.  Also extra prayers for Roy, Jacqui, Joy, Tana, Sarah and Kathi whom we hope to hear from soon.  Praying the people of Ukraine are making some progress as well.  Three cheers for the Celebration list folks, and especially those who are cruising.  Stay safe out there!

Time to look at some photos now and I will post some in a bit.  My Shutterfly account seems not to want to wake up this morning so this could take a while.  In fact, my wifi seems to be having issues, and my IT specialist is still asleep.  I hope this posts!

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Good Sunday morning from the Drake Passage.  It is Drake shaky this morning. We are relocated as of now for how long we do not know.  Our neighbor kindly called us at 4:30 telling John the hall flooded and pick up anything we had on the floor. We stepped out of bed into at least 1/2 " of water.  We pulled two still dry suitcases out from under the bed and I got a wet one from my side and put it in the tub.  We tried to go back to sleep but with the slosh slosh it was kind of difficult.  We are sitting in the Lido killing time.  We have a cabin on deck one to go to while they tear out the beds and try to dry us out.  It appears to be at least 12 cabins. Today is "ask the captain " at 10 talk about poor timing.  We will be attending.  I wonder who got evicted from these cabins for all us refugees from deck 6?

Prayers for all on our Care list and the people of Ukraine.  Prayers for Tana, Roy, Jacqui, Kathi and Sarah.

Thanks for doing this each day for us Sandi!

This morning in our cabin and from the Argentinian Cellar Master Dinner last night. The dessert was beautiful but way too sweet.

On June 13, 2017 we were on Prinsendam on a Celtic Explorer cruise.  Prior to that we had done a Kiel Canal and Norway cruise so as you can imagine we saw many new and beautiful ports of call.  Due to bad weather on the east coast of Ireland we had to skip the port of Galway and proceed on to Waterford where it was cloudy but dry.  Prinsendam provided a shuttle bus to town.  Here is what it looked like as we approached Waterford.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKzoXu3SKTmSLBGZLHkCIju?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1497901964

We got off the shuttle and went to the Visitor's Center first, then to Reginald's Tower, a Viking building dating from 1003.

From there we walked to the Waterford Crystal factory and museum, passing by this group of adorable children.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKwQbntMc8ebUaDcMGJanXM?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1497903003

I'm happy you had such a lovely dinner last night, but oh boy that is a terrible thing to wake up to.  The water looks deep, an inch or more.  What a mess!  Thankfully they had that room to move to though.  It will take them a while to get that all cleaned up especially with 12 cabins involved.  Please tell us how the Ask the Captain goes later.  It should be interesting to say the least!

Good morning from the rocking and rolling Rotterdam. I’ve been up since 5:30 when DH rolled out of bed due to the ship’s motion.  He is fine and immediately went back to sleep but I believe I am up for the day.  Last night, I was sitting near the Seaview pool when a tsunami of water came tumbling out.  There must have been 4 inches of water on the deck but nothing like what @ottahand7 is experiencing.  I appreciate your positive attitude.

One of the best parts of the Daily is how everyone steps up and supports each other(and the port pictures!) Positive thoughts to those on the care list; cheers to those who are celebrating

PS I keep hearing the chatter about Hokey Pokey ice cream.  What makes it so special?

Good morning.  Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Report.

The worst of the cold has passed us 🙂.  The weatherman has forecast a high of 2°C with a chance of flurries.

I won't be showering with a friend today.  I appreciate our weathermen and women even though I don't always believe their predictions.  I was lucky and have never had to dump a jerk.

Love the quote.

The meal suggestion sounds like a good side dish, looking forward to seeing the recipe.

Not sure about the drink but I'm sure I'll like the wine.

Thanks for the pictures of Waterford, Ireland.

@ottahand7Water in your stateroom.  How awful.  The food looks good.

Prayers for everyone.  Cheers for all the celebrations.

Have a wonderful day.

Stay safe.

Sorry, meant to post yesterday but forgot.

Alarm was set for 3am, but too excited to sleep so I got up at 2am. Drive to airport was good (no traffic). Flight was a bit bumpy a few times but uneventful. Watched 2 movies (Ticket to Paradise, Shotgun Wedding) that were good. Got a Lyft to the hotel, checked in, got to the room, called DS to see where she was at. 7 min out!

So I went downstairs to meet them. Got all their stuff to the room (we brought the WC @Cruzin Terri), relaxed a bit, then a simple dinner at the hotel. We were all tired so we’re in bed by 7:30pm.

We’re all up now and getting ready. We have matching shirts for embarkation. 😉 Will have breakfast at the hotel then load up their truck to the cruise port.

Thanks for the locations of the Holland America Line fleet, and all the daily information.Prayers for everyone who needs them.  Cheers for all the celebrations.

Good Morning Everyone, thanks for the daily fleet report.  Today’s meal suggestion sounds like something I’d enjoy as a side dish.  Waking up this morning the temperature was 23 F, much better than the -9F from yesterday.  My only errand today is a trip to Aldi.

Yesterday we went out for lunch/dinner at the 99.  While we were eating the restaurant had to close their doors.  The pipes froze.  Felt bad for the staff as Saturday’s are busy for them.

I hope everyone has a good day today.

Good morning.  Hope it is a good day for all.  Otterhand7 — hope everything improves for you.  From where did the water come?  Did I miss something?  Best wishes for the mess to be cleaned up quickly.

Weather should be improving today (temps in the 40’s)  and I hope to get in a nice long walk.  Temperatures rising during the day and the rest of the week.  Other than a couple of cold snaps we have not had much winter here in SE Pa.  Oh, I know when it will snow — the morning of 2/23 when we are leaving for the Baltimore port!!

There is Eagles fever in the air as we head to the Super Bowl next week.  It will be interesting.

Prayers for all in need.  Hope we hear soon from Kathi.  I have followed a few of her travel blogs in the past and pray that her treatments are going well.  Katherine

Thank you for today’s Report & Daily, Sandi. You have done a stellar job filling in for Roy & Rich!

Thank you all for your prayers and condolences. We are all still a bit numb. My Sister said she braced herself for this news so many times over the years, but she was totally unprepared yesterday, since Matt had finally turned the corner.

I head off to the gym, then Aldi, Bindi walks and will head up to my Sister’s later.

Prayers for all who need our support: Tana, Sarah, Roy, Kathy, Jacqui and my Sister & Brayden - extra prayers heading your way.

Cheers to all who are celebrating.  Get well & stay well everyone.

Misha's Vineyard The Starlet Sauvignon Blanc 2021, Central Otago

This wine is so elusive, you might have to travel to New Zealand to find it. But it sounds lovely, and I would love to taste it. This vintage has probably just been released, so it might be easier to find in the next six months. Right now New Zealanders can find it for a reasonable $17.70.

Raymond Chan wine review

Review Date : 06-Sep-2022
Bright, even, pale yellow. The nose is gentle with richness, savoury aromas of stonefruit, papaya interweave gooseberry, cut herbs, white pepper, cardamom and a saline edge. Medium-full bodied, aromas of papaya, nectarine and hints of gooseberry, unfolding white spice, herbs and minerals. The mouthfeel is smooth and delicate, dressed in silky, dusty phenolics. The fruit is concentrated, lingers with the depth of flavours and integrated acidity, and lends a savoury, long finish. This rich textured Sauvignon Blanc possesses concentrated fruit and spice with integrated acidity. Match with pork rillette and fish pate over the next 5 years. Fruit from Bendigo, handpicked, few hours of gentle skin contact. Whole bunch pressed to tank for settling, 54% was racked, inoculated and fermented in stainless steel, the remaining underwent spontaneous fermentation in older French oak barrels. 14% alc, 5 g/l RS. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts)

Good morning everyone. Yesterday I woke to 8 degrees so was no friend of the weather man. I was so grateful that my furnace was working. I didn’t even open my door to feel the chill. Shower with a friend? I think not.
im trying to put my shredder to good use as I clear out some old paper work..

Stay safe everyone,

Carol

Good morning to all my Dailyite friends.

This is short but sweet.

We are getting ready to leave for Miami.  We will stop in Titusville tonight and then continue to Miami tomorrow. First we will stop in Total Wine in Jacksonville to pick up our order.  Easier than doing it in Miami.  Nicer store and it will be ready for me and they will bring it to the car.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

Prayers for everyone.

God Bless,

Terri

Buenos Diaz Amigos,

Yesterday was a rain out! Enough for the second night we cancelled dinner reservation at a nearby walk to restaurant. There were brave souls that didn’t let rain stop them from using the pool but not us. For most of the day we read but we had a heavy lunch on site that did require a siesta. The lunch was enough we skipped dinner.

So we may get a couple of hours poolside this morning. Currently 74 F.

Obviously and outdoor shower with lots of people may take place today but hope the weatherman is wrong. I know of no jerks in my life so that doesn’t apply.

Continued concerns, thoughts and prayers on our Care List and we have a pretty long list in our own lives.

We’ll see if we can connect to our on line church service this morning.

Have a great day!

Bruce

Thanks for the Fleet Update and general info.

Who in the world came up with National Shower with a Friend Day. If I did that I would have no more friends. Explanation not required 😀
National Weatherman’s Day. Shouldn’t it be National Weatherperson Day. There is a 50% chance that 50% of the people on this thread will not celebrate this day.

And Dump your significant jerk day. No way am I dumping beef jerky.

Good morning, everyone.

It is a balmy 33F outside right now with promises of getting up to 41F and hints of the sun.  We have our neighborhood party tonight so I'll get to meet most of the neighbors.  Winter time is hard for doing that as the weather keeps many inside.

Yesterday was a nice day after my Zoom meeting.  Went shopping with two of my sisters and our brother actually decided he wanted to join us.  I think he wanted to get out of his apartment as he's having knee replacement surgery on Monday and knows he'll be stuck inside for a while after that.  We did get him to the grocery store during our travels so he could stock up on what he needed.

Today's meal is a great side dish.  You could easily turn it into a full meal with the addition of a protein.  I love roasted brussels sprouts.  Roasting them caramelizes the natural sugars in them and it doesn't stink up the house.  I remember as a kid that most vegetables were boiled.  Then steaming came into vogue, now roasting.  I like roasting the best.

Our first recipe combines brussels sprouts, green beans, and potatoes for a hearty side dish.  The dijon vinaigrette sounds like a great topping.   https://www.aheadofthyme.com/roasted-brussels-sprouts-salad-dijon-vinaigrette/

1210255278_roastedbrusselssproutssalad1.thumb.jpg.19a0626e38c94e8532a0361e0609e980.jpg

This next recipe pairs the brussels sprouts with sweet potatoes and goat cheese.  They also add in pecans (be sure to roast them first) and it reminds me a bit of Joy's brussels sprouts and cauliflower dish.  We sure enjoyed that at Thanksgiving and Christmas.  https://www.budgetbytes.com/roasted-brussels-sprouts-salad/

Cooking Light offers us a very simple dish to make.  This would be great for a quick supper on a weekday night.  https://www.cookinglight.com/recipes/roasted-brussels-sprouts-with-mustard-dressing

I hope this gives you some ideas!

Wishing you all a wonderful day.  Healing thoughts to @kazu Jacqui, @rafinmd Roy, @grapau27 Graham's Sarah, @smitty34877 Tana, @Scrapnana Kathi.  I sure hope we hear from Kathi soon.  And, @Seasick Sailor Joy, what are we going to do with  you!  I hope you didn't injure yourself too badly.  If you still have a lot of pain, perhaps you should get  yourself checked out.

Be careful out there, everyone!   No more falls!

@dobiemom Best wishes for a great cruise!

Good morning. It is a reasonable  30 degrees now and will get warmer later.I think my shower sharing days might be behind me but as least  I have no jerks in my life at this time.I would love to see Waterford Ireland.

@cat shepard,Ann, we have had similar losses to drugs and alcohol in our families and the pain of it is just awful. Continued prayers  for you and the family.

@ottahand7, holy smokes on the flooded cabin.I hope you can either be moved or they can get the cabin dry for  you.

@dobiemom,  Bon Voyage

@Seasick Sailor,Joy,  I hope you have no after effects from your fall and less pain today.

@rafinmd Roy,  I hope sleep gets easier for you.Do you still have  a lot of pain?

I had dinner in the steak house last night, so still no Ms. I Don’t Like Anything. Filet steak with Béarnaise sauce, which a restaurant in my town spells Bernaise as if it were named for the capital of Switzerland, and truffle fries.

Having a light breakfast because I have an online class at 12:30 and will need an early lunch. I hope there is sufficient bandwidth for Zoom.

Not showering with a friend and especially not with the Junior Cat. The original Senior Cat in Charge loved the sound of the shower and would occasionally jump in, find that it was full of water, and jump out screaming and shaking water all around. Then after about six months he would forget and do it again.

Debbie, thanks for the interesting versions of roasted brussels sprouts.  I'll mention it to DH - he usually steams ours.  Good thoughts coming your DB's way as he goes in for knee replacement surgery tomorrow.  Will they let him go home same day, or stay overnight?
